I understand that, but as a nation where do we stop? When do we say this is not the type of thing that's good for our society?
All laws are for the benefit of society at large... what kind of employees, mothers, fathers, citizens etc do these people make?
And if we say okay on this thing, where does it end? Because the next thing is always around the corner..
Nah, probably one golf trips security detail or maybe the the airfare for a few dozen marines to go to El Pesidentes grand parade.
I know. But the next thing will be there regardless. All we can do is try to make the current thing as safe as possible for all involved. And tax the h#%l out of it so that our government can continue to tell us all what's best for us.
Is everyone that partakes a druggie? Do you assume that a person who has a couple beers one night is an alcoholic? Not wanting to start a battle, just wondering why one is worse than the other? Is the father that drinks a beer after work a better father than the one that does the other? Both are good to their wives, both hold down a job to support their families, both help the kids with homework and go to school events, etc. What is the difference?

That makes me angry. Even if they were a down low head shop, it is a victimless crime. I love Nevada more every day. MJ, prostitution, gambling, guns, 24 hour drinking, smoking, and e-cigarettes are all legal to adults. I believe an adult American should have the freedom to make the decisions that affect their lives as long as it doesn't hurt others. Fortunately the lawmakers in my state feel the same way.
I have little experience with people who do, to be fair - outside of knowing who the druggies are.. and what type of people they are as parents and employees...
Most people not in that scene are much like myself. Our experience says this is not a positive thing for our society.
That said, my daughter as you know had cancer, I also had no qualms asking her if that was something she might like to try for her side effects from chemo and radiation.
So I understand it has some benefits, but to make it legal as a blanket I could not see myself voting for.
I also won't vote against it either if it came to my state, because that's neither my business nor my purview, but it's not something I could see myself getting behind either.
I see a dumbing down of our society, in our schools, in media etc that is not good for us as a nation, I don't see this as an inherently positive thing, but rather a means to encourage even more dumbing down of our nations youth.
There is no real illegal market here. Why would there be when there are stores all over that you can just go up to the counter and buy it.
Laws are not to protect society; they are to protect monied interests. Why do corporate bankers not go to prison, getting a bail out, while shoplifting $100 in meat is a felony that gets 5 years?
When we vote we are keeping in mind what is best for our nation, and voting according to what we see as best.
This is why we vote for laws.... we don't say this is best for the money people - while the money people lobby their butts off - we the people vote thinking of what is best for all those in our nation.
Money people influence public opinion just as much as politicians. We also do not vote for most laws or penalties.
I know... that's why not allowing the dumbing down of our society is so very important. ...
People need to be able to discern in order to see through the lies and BS..
This ability is seen in fewer and further between these days, and apparently so.
I find myself shocked at it most days... and this just due to our educational systems etc. I cannot imagine it getting worse how utterly detrimental it will be for our nation.

Maybe that used to be the case. Not so much any more. Who will keep your money in your pocket or who will turn the entire state into a nanny state and dictate what values they believe you should live by, and the list goes on and on. People no longer vote for the greater good they vote for what is better for themselves. Or they they have the audacity to believe they know what is better for me than I do and would love to take away my right to choose how to live my life or express myself openly. (yes I live in the bible belt and it sucks)
If you want society to quit 'dumbing down" throwing a widening net of restrictions and taking away choice is not the way to go about it. If you take choice out of the equation you take away the reason to think for yourself. If you don't think for yourself your reasoning stagnates and dies, you become completely apathetic a have no will of your own.
