Try a new battery. I have a 2003 (that’s not a mistype!) MacBook laptop that we updated the hd on and new battery. It still runs fine, very slow, but fine for the guest room. Current for me is 2014 or 15??? MBP. Really I use my iPad Pro more than anything though. With 3 girls we went through I can’t tell you how many pc laptops, they just don’t last no matter the brand . They all still use the first MBP we got them.RIP 2012
My 2008 died last year and ended up getting a 2015 MBP -- the ones that still had all the sockets and what not.
Babydoll's 2012 died about 3 months ago. Hers was fully loaded and still great performance wise. Not sure if I should try to replace the battery or buy her a new one in March.
I use windows on my desktops. I like it better for gaming and what not. I've owned about 6 Windows laptops and i've always had them just suck after a year or so. Major slowdowns even after reformatting. Since I got my 2008 MBP in 2009 I never had issues again. Used it until 2017 (8 years) and it was still pretty chippy. The battery just died and I wanted a new shiny.
I have a 27 inch iMac too. It's maybe 5 years old now? Still super fast. I gave it to my mom when she moved away so we could keep in touch. I miss it sometimes, especially for graphic design and video editing.
Entry level 13 inch MBP is $1700 CAD. With our employee discounts we get them for around $1450 CAD. I can't even imagine what that would be in ARS with import fees. Too bad they cost so much, but at least they last for years. In my 8 years with my 2009 MBP I would have probably bought 6 Windows laptops at $500-$1000 each.
Roadside Vapes has Squid gear 50% off. Code SQUID.
I usually keep a computer for work, and a computer for light every day use. Husband got an i5 Microsoft Surface he's very much in love with. For work I'm planning on a Razer 15 (Gaming computers are plenty powerful for programming work, at very competitive prices) and I like the 999 Mac Mini for the TV setup. The Mini is on the way but won't get here until early in the year. The Razer will wait a lot.RIP 2012

I was a mac programmer for 20 years. I started out when Woz was still there, and kept on programming until not long ago. Nowadays work is more app related, so no use keeping a mac anymore. Still, the mini is perfect to have as a tv setup. I can't stress it enough. And even more if you keep a NAS at home.More and more creative content users, that do not have the budget for specialized proprietary equipment, are switching over to Windows based PC’s given one can build a faster machine at a lower cost plus receive the needed support.
The whole thought of Apple is better at creative content than Windows has not been a fact since the late 90’s. And since Apple has switched over to an Intel x86 architect, the components used are identical. The failure rates for Apple computers are on par with competitively priced Windows PC’s. The operating system does not dictate how or when a hard drive fails.
Neither OS is perfect – there are pro’s and cons to each. We choose what suits us best.
I didn’t look to see if they had the DB 3 in stock. I went ahead and ordered a detonator since I'm very happy with the 40T battery life.Been holding off for V3 of the Double Barrel to hit the market but that sale is very tempting. Thanks![]()
Stick to a tablet for internet use. That is, if you don't need more complex work than net surfing. Get some cloud storage and make sure you back up EVERYTHING. Yes, I know. But if I need to do something Mac exclusive, the i5 is powerful enough to do some serious computing and do double job. I used bootcamp far too long. The Mac Mini does have an attractive form factor for media use. But so does the Intel NUC which is actually more flexible with hardware selection. We are presented with a great selection of computing devices that range from the dirt cheap to the uber expensive.
Is Mac exclusive still a thing? What about Windows exclusive - like Minesweeper….that alone is worth the price of admission.Yes, I know. But if I need to do something Mac exclusive, the i5 is powerful enough to do some serious computing and do double job. I used bootcamp far too long.
Since I retired, a computer/laptop isn’t as important. I rarely use it. I can do most photo editing and design work on my iPad.I was a mac programmer for 20 years. Himself’s first degree is a BS in computer science. I have beaucoup cloud storage, and we have a separate box that stuff backs up to nightly. I will freely admit I know zero about our system here, but it’s not the normal stuff, due to the sensitive nature of work/data Himself deals with. We do have a password protected regular modem/router for guests.Stick to a tablet for internet use. That is, if you don't need more complex work than net surfing. Rats! They've discontinued the Time Capsule. See if you can get one on Amazon. 3TB should be fine for light work.
I think the first run sold out to the preorders from the FB SVG page. Squid usually opens it up to the users/fan group (SVG) before they put it on their own FB page or website. While EBuss is active on SVG, it’s not their company page. I think people get that confused. They say no warranty issues on SVG because it’s a user group, not the Squid page. That’s the first item I looked for. Not sure it has hit the market yet – even the Squid site says pre-order only.![]()

I will have a Windows machine... The Razer will be here in a few months. For the moment the Mac does the programming trick. But yes, I still help with Mac related stuff quite often. Is Mac exclusive still a thing? What about Windows exclusive - like Minesweeper….that alone is worth the price of admission.![]()
Plenty of pictures!!! People are in love with it, but honestly, don’t we usually love most mods when we first get them? I have 3 DBs and a Detonator, so I probably won’t get one. If you do FB, join the group. When there’s not a brand new device or tank out, they have a discount code for the group members. So you have seen V3 of the Double Barrel on Face Book? I’m in no rush to get one, just got excited with @Letitia 50% off code. But thanks for that tidbit![]()
Out of the ones I have, the Detonator is my favorite. But, I vape law watts, so a single 21700 isn’t a problem. I can’t quantify it, but I also like the chip in it better. V3 should match that, as I gathered it’s from the same placeSo you have seen V3 of the Double Barrel on Face Book? I’m in no rush to get one, just got excited with @Letitia 50% off code.
