Thing about that story is it was a mech from the Philippines, so it was likely nice and shiny with well done engravings on it so that's why it was chosen. The reason he was even vaping is a real kicker to the story.

" Brown, who wasn’t a regular smoker, purchased the device on Jan. 27 while on the way to the bank, the grandmother told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He suffered from asthma and was told that a specialized vape pen might help improve his breathing, she told the newspaper."

So a terrible accident by someone who never should have had that in the first place. And the second place. And more. Who tells someone with asthma a special vape pen will help? Probably told of some sorta legit asthma inhaler and thought this was the same thing. But if course that's not how the headlines go and that's not what sells papers or views. It's click bait gone wild.
If it was a Smok E Mountain it probably looked like this. Adjustable 510 and locking ring. In both cases they were using them. Those have been around for a long time. I figured it to be one of my safer mechs, especially compared to my hybrids.

Not surprising that vaping would be a huge improvement over cigarette smoking for an asthmatic. But this guy wasn't a smoker, yet his doctor supposedly recommended he take up vaping for his condition.

Not surprised - I've had some really off the wall suggestions from doctors in my time.

It will be interesting to see the results if Dr. Thomas Casale gets funding from the NIH to study this: Vaping and Teens with Asthma: Are E-Cigarettes Safer than Tobacco?. If his doctor recommended vaping without any peer-reviewed studies to back this hypothesis, it does sound irresponsible. I've certainly not come across any.

My hunch if there is any support for this in the medical arena, it will show up in the UK. Medical professionals and the government have a much more liberal take on vaping here.

Lol thanks :) Seems to be clearing up. Hopefully it dries out. Scary driving here when it freezes. The mountains are starting to peek out from the clouds now. They are covered in snow. Very pretty.
I hear the Sierra Nevadas are supposed to get like 10ft of snow.

They need a good snow year. Hopefully it stays rainy through the summer too. There is a ton of snow at Mt. Charleston too. I want to get up there but I don't have chains and it just keeps snowing.

At its most basic doesn’t a nebulizer and a vaporizer serve the same function? Maybe not so far out an idea.

They tend to throw steroids and all sorts of drugs in nebulisers, what effect flavourings etc. from a vape would have I don't know. Pure PG IIRC is used in nebulisers (I think I read this somewhere in the bowels of ECF), however asthmatics are notoriously prone to allergies, so it may or may not be a good idea depending on the individuals' personal circumstances. I agree though, the basic technology is the same, although nebulisers are cleaned daily unlike vapes. I'd be a lot happier if there was some decent research on all of this, personally, I haven't had an issue, found vaping to be beneficial and I have both COPD and asthma. My genetics are not the same as everyone else's, nor am I a doctor. So yes, I can see the logic, but all I have to go on is anecdotal evidence rather than hard medical facts. I know more and more people are taking up vaping for health reasons, some friends of mine (one a retired radiographer) is doing this, although I won't mention what they are using.

On a different note, latest shiny. I had some yukky butterscotch vape left over, I added a few drops of FW Salted caramel and been dripping this all night.Yum.

60 and sunny here today. Had the windows open instead of hudling over the heating vents like 3 days ago.

So the Athena arrived. It's OK. It's a good backup mech squonk. Good thing thru include 2 bottles because the one that comes in place is so hard it's useless. Like squonking with a Unicorn bottle. The second is a soft silicone but needed the feed tube properly trimmed. The squonk pin is a super tight but floating pin and the aluminum is certainly light enough. The finish on the 510 top plate has a little bit of pitting, probably from sitting in a storage facility forever with no silica gel pack. Overall very good for the money but definitely a backup device. It does fit plain Coil Master bottles which are cheap and of decent quality. Same is true on the Cut so generic interchangeable bottles are always a plus.

This is the second package in two days from different vendors that were labeled as Bluetooth speakers. Guess that's the new code word. I didn't even see them pass through ISC, it's like they were just waved in straight to USPS. I wonder if that's remnants from the shutdown. If it's little and the dogs aren't concerned just pass them through.
anything that'll fit it on FT? bottle-wise? would like to get a couple of bottles to fit the cut. coil master not stocked it seems.
morning all.

Morning gang! @lupinehorror thanks for leaving the lights on.

Rainy here, gonna rain all day. Glad I didn’t mop yesterday. I shall have to brave it to return my Thor. No incoming shinies today, but my yarn Swift is coming. I have 9 hanks of sock yarn to wind, that ought to keep me too busy to shop.

They can be wound without a swift but that’s a fiddly, tangly job. And the yarn store will do them too, but I can’t go in there without dropping $50-$100. Cheaper to buy the Swift lol.

the 400mah has kind of put me off it since i first heard of it. haven't seen any reviews though. it does look good.

That doesn’t bother me, I’d just use it as a pocket pod for short trips, like a dog walk. That would be sufficient. I think it’s pretty new so no reviews yet.

Dang it, I managed to talk myself out of the Orion and now this has to happen in my world! Gah! Free pods too!
