Earthquake was in the Mojave desert. Near a small unknown town called Ridgecrest. If you traveled from LA to Vegas you know Ridgecrest as it is a place to get gas before you get too deep into the desert. In LA it felt like a 4.2 but it was a 6.5 (if you were in the desert nearby)
A 4.2 is nothing if you were int he Sylmar one in 1971 (I was) Burbank is only about 12-15 miles from Sylmar and I was only 10 or so. It changed how I felt about the safety of the world. Then there was the Nor
thridge one in like 1994. Very scary, You have not lived until you have felt the ground under you, that you could always count on to be there, rolling and buckling under your feet. Give me the tornadoes of the midwest or the hurricanes of the south any day over earthquakes.
