Hey shinies! It's a Frosty Friday here at Tralcatraz State Institution for the Financially Challenged :]

KF6hpAE.jpg

I started the evening with some fresh Ni80 tri-core fused claptons for my Axial rda.

And topped it off with another color cap on my white SHRTGN and some world class Frosted Flakes. It's a pretty good Friday :D

So many people have an Axial rda and seem to like them. I have one and as much as I want to like it I just don't and I don't really even know why. The only thing I haven't tried is putting a series build in it and try it on a stacker. I'm thinking it will get really hot though. Should I even bother?

The thing that’s weird about it is the size. It’s only 23 mm wide, but has a fairly large chamber, which is slightly domed which is good for flavor at least. But while it’s fairly large, it isn’t as roomy as a typical 24 mm dual build deck and chamber. That’s why I found the single 4 mm coil raised up with moderate airflow to work the best for me. I wouldn’t view it as a dual coil cloudy atty because the volume IMO is a little small for that. But it’s not a small concentrated type of setup on a 22 mm single coil say Venna or KRMA or Flave. So it’s an in between atty that works well for what it is, but does seem to need just the right build to meet individual expectations.

Let’s face it, some tanks don’t work for everyone. The Recurve is a big favorite of folks, and I have two, but just can’t warm up to them. They’re sitting unused and I can’t think of what will motivate me to go back to them. The closest I could come to something OK was by cutting really long legs and raising it up to the top of the chamber, and then it was sorta OK, but not terrific. I remember when I was vaping strictly RTAs that the Boreas was loved by all and I couldn’t figure out why. It was meh at best and ended up in the drawer while everyone raved about it. Another example is the wasp nano. Another one a lot of folks really like in the little 22 mm class, but it doesn’t do it for me. Again, personal preference, not saying everyone is wrong, it’s just not a good fit for me.

The good part of a large selection like we now have of attys is finding the best fit for us, but it may well not work for another. Sorta sucks, but that’s been my experience.

Earlier this evening, I was on the hunt for a my platinum Montblanc Meisterstuck, digging through a kitchen junk drawer in the hopes of finding it among the forgotten thingamajobbers and doohickeys. I found my gold one too, but looky what else was hiding in there.

An ancient pack of 4mg Nicotrol inhaler cartridges and their patented delivery system™ (plastic tube with a cigarillo tip). I still have a box of these left over from the dark ages before vaping was a thing and the many, many times I tried to quit smoking by whatever method big pharma were hawking at the time. I'll bet they're pretty nasty by now, not that they were ever good. Blech.

I'm really enjoying the Tripod. Don't know what extension kit means...? I got some bubble tanks from these people
3PCS Atmizoo Tripod rta 22mm tank Bubble Glass Tube Fatboy Replacement [FT090x3]$7.99
It gives real good flavor. Only "problem" really is the drip tip. Its way to short, unless one has chicken lips :p. It does build up some condensation now and again, and deposit it unexpectedly
You can use a bigger bore tip but it needs bigger o rings. I'll work on that later. For now i'm content and happy with it
Glad to hear you're enjoying the Tripod. They're one of my favorite RTA's.
The Tripod on the left has the 3.4ml extension kit installed.

I've used several DT's on the Tripod but I keep coming back to theirs. The Tripod takes any 510 DT. Just remove the two piece drip tip and then any other 510 DT works perfectly once you have the top cap installed. I don't know if the Ulton version has the two piece DT or not. Does it?

You can get rid of the condensation by lifting your wick shoulders so they are not touching the positive/center block (just like a Kayfun build). You can use a paper clip or something similar to raise the shoulders from underneath. Like so...
IMG_1524cr.jpg

Also trimming your wick tails so they "just" touch the bottom of the juice wells, like any modern Kayfun, is key for good wicking. I have my coil installed ~1.5mm above the airflow. I trim the wick tails to just above the o-ring in the above pic. For my setup they just touch the bottoms of the juice wells. Tail length depends on how high you have your coil positioned.

Building on the Tripod is just like building on a Kayfun 5, Prime or KFL19. The Tripod deck, for the most part, is a copy of recent Kayfun decks.

Fred how did you set yours up? Are you using any of the AF inserts or are you going RDL/DL? Do you have the chimney reducer installed or removed?

Somewhere I saw @NolaMel and @Letitia have ordered Tripods. Very cool. :thumb: It's good to see the Tripod finally getting some love! I hope you two like them. :)

Nice! I always figured you were either rich or instead of food you just got your source of energy from high end mechanical mods.

A series build would be way too hot. What I love about my Axials is the flavor I get from a "not too low" dual build. I usually go .13-.14 in mine. That's the sweet spot for me. Another thing I'd recommend is not giving in to the temptation to place your coils too far out and close to the air intake. The small chamber will give you plenty of flavor without having to place the coils too far out. If you set your coils close to the cap, it makes for a pretty hot vape.

For me, that's the trick to keeping the cap cool and the flavor dense. Some of the best flavor I've experienced from a dual setup has been in an Axial. Plus, I love the way they look.

I just tried to order an axial from AR and they don't ship to Illinois. First time I've come across this, anyone know why? We've not had any bans or excess tax that I know of.
Don't know if you got this figured out or not. I've gotten gear from them before. If you want I can order it and then ship it to you. Just PM me the details. :thumb:

Are your talking about unlocking ?
Hey Bob, not actual unlocking as in to turn it on (or off) but there is a little lock at the bottom, lower left side.
I dunno what all is wrong but my friend that I bought this thing for last Christmas cannot figure out how to turn it on or what is wrong with it. I agreed to check it out. I am unfamiliar with the Colossal's.
The screen will not come off Power mode. When you press the fire button there is a counter of some sort counting but it is not firing. I tried other tanks and same thing. It is not doing anything when you slide your finger down the screen to adjust things as the Miniken does.

Hey @Daniel Forsyth Are you not DIYing any more? I must have missed something. No wonder, the speed this place moves! I use Flavour World all the time. Great products and service.

I only get premade juice these days Possum:)
They are a very good place to shop for flavour though:D

Press fire button briefly, and it'll lock again.
I see, so it is only in unlock when you are changing things. Got it.
This darn thing (in Power mode) seems to be broken but will hit every once in awhile. I am not getting any kind of error message.
