On mechanicals I usually don't even know the wattage, only resistance. I like anywhere between .16 and .35. Any higher and it ramps up too slow for my taste. Any lower and it is too hot for me.
Edit: a 28ga. .5 will heat up ast. Too fast for me. I always end up burning my wicks with those type builds on mechanicals for some reason.
Mine that I did with the thinner wire were awful. The bigger wire is so much easier to work with. For spaced coils, I make a contact coil then pull it out. It will give you really nice even spacing. I think they carry the .3×.9 in the Kanthal.

Unregulated mods made me completely change my wattage.
The highest is the B2k rda on a Luna, with a 0.5ohm, 3mm, 4 wrap flat wire 1.0 x 0.14mm. Ohms law tells me it's around 25-30 watts - but more wraps makes it slow to ramp up and cool down. So I'm just ignoring the wattage now completely, and going by how it vapes
My smaller deck RDAs are more in the 0.65-0.7ohm range. A more respectable, cool vape @ 20 watts

If it kept me calm and less stressed, then YES.
I not so stealthily vaped before my last surgery (plate removal from ankle). I did the same once out of the recovery room.
But I do have over 30 days worth of 18mg nicotine patches, and about 45 packets of nicotine gum. These are all leftovers from when I broke my ankle 2 years ago, and I'm not using/needing them. If you want them, they are yours

My surgeon (who is pro vaping) said I shouldn’t use nicotine for at least a couple weeks because it could interfere with wound healing/blood flow. (My surgery was abdominal/intestinal.) I vaped zero nic throughout, hospital and home recovery. Waiting to be able to have caffeine post surgery was worse than no nicotine for a couple weeks. She would have preferred I taper down before, but the surgery couldn’t wait.
Yes I know this about nicotine. I have always cut down. I had lots of surgeries during my smoking days and dealt with slow wound healing so I do not see that deterring me. thanks

Don't inhale, you'll still get the nic through the mucus membranes. Another option is use the juice sublingual under your tongue.
This was a first for me to stop. She was worried about the blood flow to the resection(lots of vessels keeping it alive), not so much where she closed me up. You’ll know what’s best for you deep down. Just follow your intuition.
The one I use is Kbee rectangle wire. They only have that in Ni80 or SS as far as I kan see. The Kanthal looks like it only comes in .1 ribbon of varying widths.

When I broke my hip my surgeon and nurses all said nicotine would slow down the healing process and not to smoke or vape it.
I was discharged after 5 days but since it was an emergency I didn’t have any 0 nic juice prepared so I vaped what I had just not as much.
I kept saying I’d order some but never did. And that makes me wonder - because my recovery has been VERY slow. The incision healed fine. The bones started fusing together with the screws holding the pieces in place except the one that’s backing out of the bone (but that’s another story). But the deep tissue healing has been excruciating at times. I feel some level of pain in my hip and thigh area ALL the time.
Could that be a result of vaping nicotine after surgery or because it was a very severe displaced femoral neck fracture and lots of damage? I don’t know. Honestly, If I had to do it again I’d have somebody get me gum until I could order 0 nic because this experience has been hell and it’s been 4 months next week.

I would always say follow your doctors orders. I looked at it as well, they want me to do lots of deep breathing, so why let it go to waste. But it was stealth in a pod that only had 6 mg in it to begin with, and I didn’t even finish one 2 ml pod in the 3 days. No craving either, more the habit.
The other issue is if nicotine causes small blood vessel constriction, which it does, it shouldn’t matter how you take it in. Whether it’s through vaping, holding it and allowing it to be absorbed through your mucous membranes, or a patch or gum, it’s still all nicotine. Zero mg nic does solve that and still five you the habit part handled. Still, much of the fuss is over cigarettes, which not only deliver the nicotine but lots of other chemicals that can slow healing. So a good part of that advice today is more to discourage smoking, and going with a patch or whatever as a better than a cigarette.
I would tailor the choice to your surgery, mine was pretty minor in the overall picture, but if I had more significant lung surgery I personally would pass on vaping with nic, or even vaping altogether until I healed up. But again, that’s me, and your choice should be based on your doctors input as well as your own comfort level. Having a section of lung removed presents its own issues, so I would be careful on drawing a conclusion from any other type of surgery you may already have had.

Ha. Know whats best for me? I smoked for 42 years and at least 20 of those years I felt like it would be the death of me. I used to barter with myself. I would try to quit (gum, patches) and be miserably and go back to smoking telling myself "Oh well I will just die 10 years sooner."
