Jim,

While electrically the battery orientation shouldn't matter (unless you're using a kick) mechanically it's designed for the + end to be at the top. It will probably work better that way even though they look like flat-top batts from the picture. batteries are usually shipped at between 50% and 90% charged.

Thanks! I've got it going now, positive side up and I read in a K100 thread to put the fuse at the bottom between the switch and battery.

This is my first experience with carotmizers - they hold a heck of a lot of juice!

My first successful coil!

Teeny kanthal. 32g I think. 2 pieces of silica.

My MVP read 1.8 ohms. This was only my 3rd try, so not too shabby if I do say so myself :)

Hi All!

I've been lurking around for a few weeks now, and figured it was time to get a move on. :)

Anyway here's some background...

My name is Sheila, and this is my 3rd attempt to quit smoking with e-cigarettes. I've been at a PAD or more of Newport 100's since I was 16. I smoked socially since about 13. I've been a member since 2011.

That was my first try.

I found out early on that I have a mild pg sensitivity.
My original set-ups were 510's with the cartridges. Lasted about 4-5 weeks but was never able to find flavors I loved or the satisfaction I was looking for.

I found out I was prego with my son in Aug of 2011 and put down the e-cigs and picked back up on the analogs full time. Never was able to sucessfully quit all the way. Still had about 4-5 analogs a day while vaping. When I found out I was prego I was not able to quit smoking, and was up to 5-10 analogs a day.

Fast forward to September 2013 and I knew I needed to figure something out. I was still smoking 1 - 1 1/2 packs a day at this point but I was really starting to notice all the things about smoking that I didn't like. The smell on my hands was a huge one. I reeked!!! So I started over...I still had my 510's in a drawer some where...but I knew I needed something better. I bought my first ego..a simple 650 with ce4 clearos. Needless to say I thought I was in heaven. I was even able to make it a day at a time or more without smoking...until about a week in I noticed everything was starting to taste the same...even plastic-y.... So I come to ECF and low and behold, vaper's tongue. GRRR. Anyway I lasted that time about 3 weeks, also never able to really quit. Intro---gov't shutdown. My husband is a disabled veteran and receives disability and is using his GI Bill for school and housing...We were freaked!! What no paychecks?? Crap, what now? So we let everything that wasnt absolutely necessary go..including my e-cigs, and saved every penny just in case. I was very disappointed in myself...I should've tried harder...maybe I don't really want to quit..I don't know, but tons of ???'s just circulating through my head.

Fast forward again to last month(jan) and I ended up going to the hospital for a huge mass on one of my breasts. Within days it had abcessed (sp?) and I found out after very painful cultures, huge amounts of strong antibiotics (zosin, and vancomycin) and an overnight stay that I had a severe staph infection. Well as soon as I got home I learned (google) that these abcesses are almost exclusively found in women over the age of 20 that are heavy smokers...some 60-65%. Okay...now it's effecting my health..time to take action.

I bought another ego style battery and chain vaped all day...still would sneak in an analog 2-3 times a day. Found a kanger t3s and an evod and fell in love. Okay but still having a hard time with only 1-2 flavors that are honestly just eh. I noticed myself starting to smoke a little more everyday and vape less...well one here and there won't hurt I'd tell myself. Still having a hard time with my flavors and pg sensitivity. I'm leary about internet sales and like to try before I buy.

Anyway a trip to the dentist was another nail in the coffin. I have gingivitis. Im 26 years old and have the gums of a 40 year old, with moderate gingivitis. If I don't stop smoking it's going to cause bone lose in my teeth...okay well....okay then. I'm freaking out over here. It's a come to Jesus moment. If I don't do something and do it now I may never get out from under these cancer sticks. Time to pull out the stops. SOB...I'm frustrated at this point. Nothing tastes good, if it does it hurts my throat and makes me cough like an asthmatic...or it makes my throat itch.

Okay so Im in the Phoenix area and notice there is a smoke shop right around the corner from my house. Ahh what the hay...I'll try it. Can't possibly be any worse than the crap I already have. So they have this juice from Cyclops called Poseidon....hmmm and I can test it. Well sure, don't mind if I do. :) Holy sweet heaven this juice is yummy. Still has pg 65v/35p....but its smooth and fruity and doesn't make my throat itch...28 dollars for 35ml in a glass bottle. A little pricey but I had it right then and there. I take it home and fill my kanger...Oh it's yummy.. I vape it all day for 3 days straight with a stray analog in between. First thing in the morning is killer, especially with my coffee. I love to chain smoke and check my email and facebook with a nice hot cup of coffee with cinnamon bun creamer. So I allow myself 2 cigarettes in the morning, one on the way to work, and one on the way home. So about 4 a day. So In 5 days I've used just over half of this 35 ml bottle..so about 4ml in a day. I've made 2 packs of cigarettes last over a week. Im still frustrated because I only have this one flavor that I really really like. I splurged hardcore on a 1300 mah Vision spinner in purple from another shop...40.00 but I had to have it and couldnt wait even though I over spent by at least 10 bucks. It's so pretty...and this Poseidon tastes even better between 3.8 and 4.0 volts... :)

As of today, I just spent about 175.00. I bought more chargers, some usb hubs for multiple chargers at once..about 30 different juices between Mt. Baker, ECBlends, and MyFreedomSmokes. I also would like to try Five Pawns sampler, and some more of this Poseidon. More Kangers and 2.2 coils. Gotta love income tax :) I haven't been able to quit as of yet, but I'm determined, and hopefully with my new shipments coming in I will be successful.

Sorry for the novel...:D

Best of luck to you...half of the problem I think is how determined you are. It doesn't really make it easier, but you have your own advocate in the back of your mind encouraging you and keeping you honest with yourself.

I loved my Spinner - it really is a great battery. Good luck on the juice-hunt, I've found that to be the hardest part for me (finding juices that you can use all the time).

Ever have a time where you just want to say F*&% it!... and just go back to smoking because it just seems that it would make everything easier again?

Well that's where I am now. Its not even a dependency or vaping issue, I was just curious if anyone else felt the same from time to time.

Don't want to just sit and vent so I won't bother anyone, thanks

Absolutely. That's why I have to keep it simple, have enough to have everything charged or filled and ready to go. One tiny piece of that fails, and I'm smoking again. I can not get into fiddling. Just changing premade heads can throw me off right now. Good news / bad news is that I don't think I've saved much money so I can't afford to go back into smoking daily.

Absolutely, and so far every stinking day...Just light it and inhale....lol. Works every time without fail. Some days(like today) are great, tomorrow might be hell.

Also Thanks for the welcome...I'm a chatterbox so you will most likely see me all over the place :)

Hi Sheila. Welcome to the thread and you will find lots of support and help here. You will be successful at vaping. It is a matter of time and finding a combination of juices that you enjoy and equipment that works for you. Your determination is a big positive in the equation.

I did not copy your whole quote just as a space issue, I read it and feel for your situation. Health is a big reason for many of us here to vape. Just remember this is a journey and everyone has their own path. There is no wrong way to do this. What works for me may not work for you.

I am going to post a thread on top 5 vendors. It has a long history of posts and you will see many vendors mentioned over and over throughout the length of the thread. These are vendors that stand up to the test of time and quality. Some are cheaper than others. For me, I have found that the Mt. Baker Vapor, High Dessert Vapes, ECBlends and Virgin Vapors, Deejstuff and Apollo have bases that I do not like or do not taste right to me. You may like them fine. Most have sales and let you pick you pg/vg level which will help with your pg sensitivity.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...discussion/304212-top-5-vendors-e-liquid.html

I was wary of ordering online in the beginning. But since the local pickings are slim and not great quality I started to order from several vendors. I have been fine, but I do read up on them first and check to see if there are lots of complaints. I now have 2 or 3 that I have placed several orders to regularly with great results. It is a matter of trial and error.

OK, not counting my previous post since I sit here puffing an analog, I just want to say first that I have been there in literal terms. I've done the ramen and water diet when forced to for quite a while because of being broke so I understand totally. Also about the health issues, yeah, 34 yes old and I recently found out that my heart only has a roughly 50% production capability of normal and they are even talking about a pacemaker; so yes, I get it.

Now, on to the fun stuff.

There are many ways to vape on the cheap and many people on here that are more than happy to help you get to that point where you don't need the analogs any more.

First of all about the hardware. A basic ego battery with a good charger can and should last several months to years if you take care of it, so that is some good news.

Secondly, if you are buying clearos (which, even though most kangers are technically called "glassomizers" due to the tank material being glass, are still clearomizers) I suggest you buy replaceable coil units (such as the t3, meaning you can install a new factory-made coil/atomizer-head unit; much different from rebuildable units that require some tech info to use safely and effectively) as the price of a pack of atomizer-heads (commonly and mistakenly called coils) can be purchased for close to the price of a single clearo. The cheaper, normally less effective and less long lasting "disposable" clearos which do not have replaceable heads simply stop working at some point and you have to buy a new complete unit which can end up being more expensive long term.

Further, the replaceable heads allow you to clean them more easily by simply dissasembling them and rinsing all of the parts in running water and letting them dry to use them again which will help them perform better for longer as well as change flavors more easily with less "franken-vaping" of multiple juice flavors together.

Now, about the internet and try before you buy.

Most times this isn't possible unless your local B&M (brick & mortar or actual shop) has flavors from the specific company you are interested in. What is possible is asking online if anyone has had dealings with a specific company/site and getting multiple reviews, no matter if they are good or bad, just informational.

I can recommend a few sites that I trust and have personally spent hundreds of dollars with (and would/will do so again not worrying at all) and a few that offer discounts and trial sized items at a pretty substantial deduction over the full size price.

Now, once you get a few flavors sorted out that you like I would highly suggest that you look into making your own juice. It honestly is not very hard and can dramatically cut your vaping cost (some of my favorite flavors don't exist in stores and cost under $3 for just the flavoring, which is what you will use the most of) for me sometimes down to pennies a week.

So, anyway there is my little rant on your post. Say hello from one vet to another to your other half and best of luck to you.

I have had more than a few of those moments. Especially when I ask myself why I bother to keep fighting when something is not going right with my vaping. It would be so easy to just have that pack of cigarettes.

Then my stubbornness kicks in. And I think about all the good flavors I have and how awesome my vape is some days. Maybe not today, but it was yesterday, or a few days ago. And I have all these juices and I do like more of them than I thought, not all favorites, but that Boba Tea or Sweet Cherry Something or Gold really is good tasting.

Then I look at the batteries and mods, and the attys. Yeah, it is a PITA right now. But, geez, last week that atty really was pretty good. I take a deep breath. I can do that now. I smell my clothes and my hands; no smoke smell.

Yeah, I can last another day or two vaping. Let's give it a little more time. I will vape some straight vg for the rest of the day to try to reset my tastebuds. I will change attys/batteries/juices. That flavor will kick back in. One of these stupid attys will work.

And it does. Maybe in a day, maybe in several days. Maybe in a week. But I make it. Not always easy and mind plays lots of tricks. But I make it.

I've got good news for you. Your in a great area for local meets. There's west valley/east valley/ the main one downtown and a few more. I don't care which one you go to, just inside the front door is a HUGE P.I.F. box where you can throw eliquids you don't like into and/or pull out what you want to try - for free (no donation is necessary/all eliquids must be labeled). Last I heard it took 4 people to lift. They are also known for having lots of door prizes, raffels and free starter kits (ego's and ce4's usually). Will is founder and head of Vaping for Veterens and I'm sure he wouldn't let you go in need. He's at most meets. My guess is that you'd enjoy having the local support and most b&m's offer a discount to the group.

I can reccomend .... Out, but in all fairness there are probably over 30 quality b&m shops in greater Phx area including high end such as Az Vape Club (I gotta ck that place out) run by GhostModders.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/phoenix.vapors/
Central Vape Meet is 16 Feb at 1pm SunUp Brewery, 322 East Camelback Road, Phoenix
East and West Meets are in March.

I live a couple hours south in Tucson (Tucson Vapors on FB) and our next meet is next Sunday. It's vey similar in set up. There are few who walk away empty handed. The door prize is a Provari. Sometimes ppl will post car pools and attend all the meets. Hey, whatever works.

If you join the FB group, at least once a week someone has posted, wondering if someone wants to meet them at such and such place, looking for a battery, atty, or bigger hole drilled, etc.

Here are a couple of thread in the PIF forum where you can trade juices. Read the first page for rules. Also remember some people add extra flavor, lots of menthol, weird pg/vg ratios, and you do not know how they store their juices. Just look up on the vendor site to read descriptions of anything you are interested in.

Just to let you know. When I was brand new to vaping, back in June of 2013, I thought I was going to be smart and buy a big lot of something like 27 or 30 bottles of juice off the classifieds here. I had not even received my first kit yet. I had no idea what I was buying. I ended up with 30 bottles of juice I hated. Some had 3 or 4 flavor shots. Some had so much cinnamon or menthol that it burned my throat and I had to throw out some attys and evod heads because I could not get the flavor out of them.

Now, several months later, I go back and will trade occasionally. You have to know what you are looking for and know what you are getting. But the swap threads can be a gold mine and a good way to try new vendors and new flavors.

ethereal,

I tried, very valiantly, to quit cigarettes many times. About 10 years ago after the Nth failure (I had actually gone for over a year without smoking, wanted them the whole time, and once I fell off the wagon was right back in there) I gave up on quitting.

I still smoke. I smoke a lot less than I did 4 months ago when I found (the new) vaping. Now it's a couple of ciggs in the morning, one before bed, and maybe one or 2 during the day. The other night I got into bed and realized I forgot to smoke my evening one. And didn't get back out of bed, either!

For me, that's progress I'm happy with. If it was an all-or-nothing choice, I would crave cigarettes. But I don't. Eventually I may stop using them for longer, indeterminate periods. Maybe someday those periods will get to be years long.

What I will not do again is set myself up to fail.

HTH

Yeah.
I hid my lighters and my cigarettes to ruin the ease of smoking.
Y'all put a lot of effort into building this or that. I want easy peasy. I carry eGo and itaste batteries and use clearomizers with quick change coil assemblies. Anything more and I'll just find my smokes and use the toaster to light one if I can't find my lighters right away.
The hardest thing I'm going to put any effort into is how much milk chocolate juice will tame the new bottle of black cherry to my liking in my new EVOD since snowmageddon caused my bottle of vanilla juice to get shipped to the wrong part of the world instead of arriving on schedule yesterday and I can't mix it with the bc. No telling where it is now or when it'll arrive. It left Norfolk sorting facility at oh dark thirty this morning with "destination unknown".

Hi, Divine!

Welcome to the thread. (Can't say Welcome to ECF; you've been here as long as I have!).

I also had little luck with the early-generation e-cigarettes, but am doing much better this time around. This is a great group of people to hang out with! I have found that e-cigarettes are much much better for my teeth and gums (which are horrible). Then again, I've been 26 years old a couple of times......

Finding good e-liquids is certainly a challenge. If you like cinnamon buns I would suggest you try a sample of "Deadly Sin" from Good Life Vapors. There are many juices I like, but taste is subjective; this is one I recommend often because lots of other people (both that have tried mine and people on ECF) like it as well. If you do try it, experiment at different voltages; at low power it's sweet and creamy bakery, as you crank up the voltage it gets more cinnamon, and has a very different flavor profile! If you ordered MBV Cinnamon Roll that's also good, and close to Deadly Sin (but much stronger cinnamon, and more "bun" than cream).

Well, enough blathering. Welcome and Hi!

Sorry for the novel...:D

cut down your post just so its not to long to scroll through..

you spent less than i did. first gen ecig way back in 2008 i paid almost 200 for. that was 1 automatic battery, 2 atomizers, and 5 cartridges (about 0.5ml capacity polyfill each). last feburary i bought a Blu starter kit off girlfriends mom that did not like the flavors. it got me to think i could get Ecigs to work for me. last june i went and bought a manual battery that has usb passthrough so i culd use it while it was charging. my buggest complaint about the Blu as i would drain a battery just as another was finishing charging. (thought it was better than the old one i originally bought) and started looking online as i did not want to have to pay ~12 for a new atomizer. found out the connector was proprietary (if you buy it now, its atleast 510/ego threaded. im tryin to get in touch with customer service to swap the batteries i have for the new threaded ones.. but every time i try to contact them they are gone for the day. darn early morning people and closing as i wake up). when i bought the manual batteries i knew ineeded more than 1 battery so i bough the most expensive kit. 2 tank atomizers, 5 tanks (little plastic tank things that slide onto the atomizer), 1 polyfil atomizer and 5 polyfill cartridges and 1 carto. a car charger, and battery. bought a second battery thinking i would need it or have girlfriend use it with me. spent ~300 there in 2 days. later found ECF and learned of all of the other options and how the stuff i had would not connect. bought an Evic and vapeonly bcc mega (3.5ml tank, like a protank but tighter draw) and used that for 4 months until i went to florida and went to a vape shop, bought a hyper tank (5ml tank, like a protank and uses protank heads.), and gingerbread liquid to use. came home, won a contest for a k100 and a rebuildable. started rebuilding a bit. still use my Evic most of the time. use my k100 when im going out with my dripper just for the ease of use and the cold temperatures do not affect a dripper like they do a bottom coil (when my cold liquid warms up it leaks right out of the tank unless its upside down. but i cant vape it upside down or i get dry hits.)

find what works for you. dont count how many you smoke. count the ones you are not smoking and passing up. possibly look into DIY liquid. you need to be confident in your ability to measure up exact ammounts (for the nicotine, and flavors when you find a mix you like), and it becomes cheaper.

Oh Erised. I only liked this to acknowledge that I read your post. I hope your dog is not sick. This hacking business is getting ridiculous, from what I read if the US banks and cc companies would put those chips in their cards most of this problem would be avoided. Here again, greedy companies not wanting to put infrastructure dollars out to keep up with technology. Most of Europe has done it years ago. Same thing with the air traffic control gps type systems. Greedy and cheap and we, the consumer, are the ones that have to suffer. Bah!

Hope the doggie is ok and your day gets better.

Thanks Sheri! The doggie has a wicked bacterial infection, which is a relief as it was suspected that it was something much more serious. Now we're just holding our breath hoping she responds to the antibiotics. Not sure what the bank's glitch was, but they've got it cleared up now (thankfully).
