Got my wood "hero" today. I agree with what Nikka said about the 510. I honestly don't understand why they didn't keep the spring loaded 510. The overall fit and finish is pretty good, but definitely not perfect on the one I received. The gap between the wood and the frame is a little bigger on one side that the other. It isn't a huge deal, but it does bother me slightly. There are a few imperfections with the finish of the wood, but that doesn't bother me at all, I actually quite like it. My 510 pin wasn't attached when I received it, and I actually thought I didn't receive one at all, but it turns out is had came out and was lodged in a little gap to the left of where it screws in. I was able to grab it with some tweezers. Here's a quick picture I took. Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts once they get one in their hands.

There is the slightest gap difference in mine as well. There is also a tiny dent in the metal frame on top of mine as well.

Got my wood sx zero today too. Im fine with the 510 connection. Seems like the cap is now removable to be able to hybrid an atty on there. If thats the case it makes sense to me the contact pin would need additional travel for this. Atties have been connecting fine for me. Slot size on caps is also okay in my book - they remove easily with coins. Now that small copper battery adjustment and the copper 510 contact pin would require a screwdriver and since there isn't one included like all other zero clones that is a bummer to me. I would have rather seen a single piece batt cap with one big coin-size slot and a spring-loaded 510 pin (but if this can hybrid 20x1 or similar I see the point in the adjustable 510).
My biggest complaint though is, on mine, the batt cap cant be tightened enough to ever be flush with the body. It always sticks out and makes the mod wobble when stood upright. I am using sony vtc4 which aren't unusually long.

I echo both of your sentiments. I opened up the package and thought that's it? Never knew they were this small. The two piece battery contact is kinda a bummer since it makes swapping batteries on the go a bit harder because you need to carry a screwdriver with you. Mine sits flush.

Now to put a fresh build in and find my sweet spot!

My 25r's fit a lot better than my vtc4s. Its just about flush w my samsungs. The sony is def the longer batt

Yeah, Sonys are longer. They don't fit well in some of my mods.

I never said sonys were the shortest batteries out there. When I said "I am using sony vtc4 which aren't unusually long." I guess I should have put more emphasis on UNUSUALLY lol. Unless sonys are ~3 mm longer than others the problem I have is with the device I received - it would require approximately 18620 batteries in order for the battery cap to be flush.
@smplx - Does your cap screw down flush with a vtc4?

Disappointed to hear about the 510. May have to consider changing it right off the bat.

Nikki, what if you bring out the 510 on the k4? It can unscrew a good long way without wobbling.

I had to bring the pin out on both the KF4 and the SX Zero .. like I said, they didn't do as a good of a job with the adjustable pin as the Yosen SX did. Both devices need to be adjusted for different atty's, but I don't need to take the Yosen SX 510 pin near its end as well adjusting the atty's pin too.

Does it work? yes, just not as well as the Yosen SX does. And since I had the Yosen SX first, of course the pin on the Wood Zero is going to feel inferior to me, because it is actually. As are the end caps in general.

I agree with Icebat, they should have stayed with the spring loaded 510, or simply figured out a better way to construct the adjustable 510. The good news is that the wood body looks and feels really good. I am sure that I will get used to it, but out of the box I was disappointed in this aspect, especially since I was so happy with the Yosen version. As I always say, current opinions are relative to prior experiences. If I had no prior point of reference, I may very well be fine with it.

Well my friend, it does look damn good in your hand, that is for sure. :)

I may change the 510 then. Of course that would void my warranty if this one sets on fire.

That's the same problem the Pyra has. If you bring the pin up enough to connect to an atty, it wobbles all over. So I do know what you mean.

Well, guess I need to make a decision once it gets here. The soonest I could change it would be tomorrow provided I don't have any machine work to do on it.

Haha, it's definitely a beautiful mod. :)

Yeah I was looking at is again last night and it is really nice looking IMO. It feels lighter than the SS version, but not as light as the Yosen acrylic. I am sure I will get on fine with it after the initial let down which is often fueled by high expectations. :p

When I'm able, I'll give you all feedback on how easily or not the 510 can be changed. I'm not sure yet if it came today, and need to leave in an hour for a doctor's appt.

If it can be changed easily I will do it tomorrow and give you my thoughts on that. I have some extra fdv 510s sitting here.

Kind of too bad as its a nice looking well on that 510 now that I looked at the pics this morning.

Here is a pic comparing the Hero and Yosen SX 510's .. this is what the Yosen 510 pin looks like adjusted to make contact with the same atty.

Its not the end of the world, just symptomatic of having something else first and liking a particular aspect more. I wish both Hotcig and Yosen would have left the whole "creations" thing off the branding though, its so corny and unnecessary. :p

I honestly feel like hotcig changed the 510 to make the mod more like the real sx zero. I would have much preferred a spring loaded pin, and don't understand why they changed it. Did anyone have issues with the 510 on the sleeved hotcig version? It's a pain adjusting the pin every time you want to switch an atty.

I think the weight is perfect, noticeably lighter than I remember my yosen v1 being. Also, the edges are so much nicer, not sharp at all.
