I'm not worried about China "Human Rights" - they got government. They've had government.

I'm more interested in who makes what and how we get thru to them about QC and part-manufacture.

Actually, I'd be more interested in American firms of various sizes stepping up to the plate - even mexican firms.

I had considered starting an "unofficial Ithaka " thread but I think maybe this is it.
I considered asking a moderator to add "Ithaka clone" to the title of this thread, if anybody else thinks that's desirable please comment on it.

I think it would be a good idea to keep it here.. There's a wealth of info here, and the Ithaka is indeed the Oddy v3. (Imeo even stated this) Another member already started another thread on the "Hercules" anyway.. I suggest we just keep er' rolling along right here. Contrary to popular belief, the actual forum thread search function works pretty well if needed to pinpoint issues with keywords... ;)

YES! Where are the US Firms???

I totally don't understand why it's not taking off here.

No idea, and.. These could be made like the polish Naughtyfun kit, or mass-produced - depends on the committment, investment and interest.

Perhaps the feds finally succeeded in completely destroying the small-shop manufacturing capabilities of the USA? They are doing fine along that vein in farming.

I've often wondered the same... Over the years, I have supported the US mod manufacturers, and purchased about every US mod made. I read one post where the person was talking about how bad the economy was in Greece, and we should be supporting it instead of China.. OMFG!! This person lives in the US.. What about supporting OUR failing economy, and fellow Americans?? We DO need to see more American innovation, and stop seeing these overseas mods as something which fell out of a unicorn's or minotaur's ....

That said, I was known to be quite a mod-snob here over the years.. Recently, I've been allowing the best quality I can find for the value dictate my purchases...

Well, I have to shop with my wallet/payrate.. I didn't create this "Favored Trade Status" nonsense or drive off/out manufacturing or farming. That was all done by our government. I only get aggravated when people pretend we can ALL afford expensive 'toys' and should pay-up or shut-up..

I'd happily pay America what we pay Poland for a kit. I'd expect to pay less than we pay for a German (or Russian) product as well. Too bad.

While I'm am eagerly awaiting my wire welder I am getting frustrated with joining my wires together. Weird, I got some nice joins made up over the last couple of weeks and now it's complete failure. I'm using 30awg Nickel and 28awg Kanthal. It's pretty tough to make the joins imo, the NR wire keeps slipping. Is there a good alternate method to making the V and twisting then pulling the NR wire back over and re-twisting? Looking for something better/easier perhaps.

I'm no expert, but I find it's important to cross the wires, then pull them so they stand out 180degrees from each other before twisting. That way you twist them around a common axis rather than twist the NR wire around the R wire... which will make it pull right off.

I had the same problem. I also was twisting the linesman knot the wrong way. This caused it to untwist.

I've got the cheap Chody clone and wanted to attempt a silica microcoil. Turns out, with a micro-coil sized silica wick, I was getting scary amounts of leakage.

I was ponderring how to get a second wick to go on top of the micro coil without it just loosely sitting on top since 2 wicks won't fit in the ceramic channels on the side. Normally when I build this attie I wrap my kanthal around 2 wicks so it always stays in place but then it wouldn't be a micro-coil.

Solution: I wrapped a half a micro-coil around the bottom wick then one wrap of the kanthal around the top piece of wick to hold it in place. I then continued the last half of my micro-coil on the bottom wick again. It has the performance of a micro-coil without the leaking of a single wick setup.

I know this isn't exactly groundbreaking stuff but I was pretty chuffed. My usual setup is around 1.2-1.4 ohms. At 2 ohms, this thing is putting out more vapor, TH and flavor than my standard setup and the response time is significantly quicker. I think I've been converted to the world of micro-coils.

man, getting this term c to stop the leaks/gurgling is a PITA. I was good for close to a month after changing the top o ring. Now its back! Changed the o ring again and it slowly leaks out when i open the mouthpiece even just a little. Its so frustrating especially having it run so well for a good while.

Thing is, once i switch out to the short mouthpiece and use just one tank, theirs no problems at all. Mind you, its the same build. Im guessing its still leaking a bit of air up at top but dont know what else to do. Ive built it about 5 times now with with no luck. Any ideas?

Where is it leaking from? The 510 connector or one of the cap/tank segment threaded sections?
