Even if you don't have one of those IBtanked "thingies" ... if you have something like a small pill bottle from a pharmacy that doesn't have a childproof cap, that your cartotank will fit into, that might also work to force the air out of the carto -- when you tighten the cap, you should see air bubbles escaping from the carto; do it several times, until there's a bit of juice in the bottom of the pill bottle.

I think I have a couple bottles that may work - I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Where did you get the istick?

I'm off Southland Dr.

Unfortunately, I bought it at Galaxy Vapes up in Florence when I was up visiting the kids. I just pulled out the box and receipt, and it's not even six weeks old. I bought it a month ago today. I'll give them a call this afternoon and see what their warranty policy is.

You need a bottoming style tap not that style for chasing threads. That is good for cutting new threads.
I actually have both myself. I meant to post a pic of a finishing tap. My bad.
Nope, once burned, trash. Unless you want to go back to the days of blue aquarium foam...
Blue aquarium filter foam! Something I have a whole bunch of! I also have black and white foam. Does it really work?
If the carto is a horizontal coil one you may be able to pull out the filling and replace with cotton be sure to tamp it down in the bottom and fill in small bits not one big piece. I used to do this on short 808 cartos. While empty rinse the carto out well with warm water.
I always end up pulling the little coil out of the bottom.
The whole entire thing is, it has to be FULLY saturated before you apply any power to it, which was what I ran into last week when I burned a couple. If your cartos don't have the flange, then the "condom method" is by far the best way, as it soaks them from the bottom-up instead of top-down. Apparently if the cartotank is very tight, it makes the saturation thing even more critical, as I discovered with my new IBtanked cartotank. Nevermind 5-10 minutes... maybe an hour, soaking in the juice. If I hadn't gotten a "thingy" (the plastic tube IBtanked ships their tanks in), I'm not sure I'd EVER have gotten that thing fully saturated, since I use flanged cartos that won't fit in one of those little "condom" caps.
I'm also using flanged cartos. I bet a test tube would work. I have lots of those. I am, after all, a scientist.
Sigh. I'm having a bad vaping day. Ever had one of those days where it seems nothing wants to work?
YES!!! Thanks for asking.

And my 6 week old iStick 50 is dying in front of my eyes. I bought it the day I decided to go back to vaping, at my son-in-law's recommendation. It keeps changing itself back and forth between watts and volts, and now it fires sometimes when I push the button. My only backup right now is my old MVP 2.0 that no longer holds much charge.

It's just not a good vape day.

You're lucky. My 50W iStick only lasted 3 weeks before dying completely.

I think I have a couple bottles that may work - I'll give that a try. Thanks!

If the test tube has a screw on cap, then yes... Otherwise, the small pill bottle (to fit the entire cartotank into) without the annoying childproof cap, just a regular screw-on cap, is the best bet, to force the air out of the carto -- it's all about the pressure change.

Up until the past couple of months I was a carto tank user since 2011. I used both SMOK and Boge, and while I did punch some of the cartos myself, I got lazy and in recent years preferred to get the 2 hole laser punch SMOK. Anyway...to get mine primed I used a luer lock needle bottle...one with a nice long needle. Assemble the carto into the tank..using a Slap Yo Mama tool or other tank tool so you can keep juice out of the top of the carto. Remove the tank tool. Slide the needle against the inside carto wall and ease 'er on down to near bottom and start squeezing in the juice while sliding the needle slowly back up and out. Do this in a couple of locations around the inside perimeter of the carto until the top looks a bit slushy. Very quick to do. If you want you can do a bit of "insurance" and drop several drops (10 or so) directly into the bottom hole where the thread screw is. They'll absorb. And for a final "insurance"...take a couple of hits without firing the button when the tank is slid back in place. Bubbles should come up from one of the holes. Never had a lick of trouble doing that, and I could load and prime a carto in under 2 minutes easy.

    BLASPHEMY!!! :D

Now you know why I don't use flanged cartos.

The carto DOES NOT need to be fully saturated, it only needs to be saturated down where the coil is. That's why the condom method works so well. (filling from the bottom) They will only stay fully saturated to the same level as the juice in the tank anyway.

The most accurate level on earth is nothing more than a tube filled with a liquid. A tank & carto works the same way.

I've tried the non-flanged cartos, and had a lot of "slippage" -- the carto coming on up into the tank, causing a big leak, the carto spinning around when you try to remove the cartotank from the mod, causing a big SPLASH when the tank comes up off the carto. Granted, it was a very cheapie tank, not this really tight IBtanked kind, so maybe that was the problem, but it pretty much cured me of non-flanged cartos.

I started using the flanged kind when I got a UDCT -- though I never use dual-coil cartos; but I got used to the non-leaking with the locking tanks. Never had any trouble getting them saturated enough that I didn't get dry hits. Then I got this IBtanked cartotank, and I guess it's because it's such a tight-fitting tank, but I had a HARD time getting that booger saturated enough to not give a dry hit; wasted 2 cartos. Once I "fiddled with my thingie" and forced the air out of the carto, no further problem; great vape. Because of the tight-fitting tank, I also don't have the slippage problems I had with that cheapie tank. But I think I'll stick with the flanged cartos; I can use them with either the IBtanked tank, or my UDCT tanks. The thingie enables me to get the carto saturated enough that the condom method isn't really necessary; I prime from the top down, as I've always done with the UDCTs, about 1.1 or 1.2ml.

    Good morning everyone.

I got all excited when you started talking about My favourite piece of vaping gear.....carto tanks but you solved it before I got a chance.:thumbs:

Just another tip on that carto air pocket. If you cover the air holes on the base and the bottom with a tissue then a quick suck and blow through the driptip will clear that air pocket.

Also leave a gap between the bottom of the tank and the top of your device. Having them flush creates the wrong pressure. It needs air.

I use the Smok tank airflow controller and that helps a lot.

Hey, welcome! I'm kinda "new" here, too. That is....I have been a vaper for 4 years (my anniversary is on the 29th) and a member at ECF since 2012. Used to be fairly active here until late 2013 when I kind of drifted away from the forum. Not sure why. Anyway, a couple of months ago I was reminded of the good times (and knowledge/tips/generosity) here at ECF and wandered back. Besides, I recently changed my vaping equipment and thought I probably could do with some edumacation. Of course I gravitated to the Tootle Puffers ...because I am one! And Kat is one of my dear friends from the old days at ECF. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home!

BTW...I lived in Calgary for several years when I was a child. Loved it there!
Thanks for the warm welcome @fourthrok . Nice to meet you! I've actually never visited Calgary but I hear the people are very friendly.

    Cheers!

Or, just use a ziploc bag. Squeeze and release.
