Going to get some center pin insulators for Protank, T3, etc coil heads. Are the silicone or rubber ones best. All I have in my current heads seem to be rubber are the silicone ones better or worse?

Thats what iv heard aswell.

Likewise. And, in my plethora of them, I've had both show up. The silicone does hold up better, stays flexible longer. And are actually easier to work with as well :) They're more flexible to start, so easier to reinsert.

Some of my most used rubber ones are getting stiff and brittle. Had to retire a few so far. Also some burned tracks in them from the 30 ga wire. I think it carries more heat down than the 32 ga I was using.

Not too long ago, I discovered what must have been the problem I had when I started rebuilding those T3S tanks -- apparently they need NR-r-NR type wire, so that the part that goes down thru the grommet doesn't get hot -- I wasn't aware of that when I was using those and starting to rebuild, but it could easily explain why I got so much burnt taste with my rebuilds in those tanks.

Could be esp with the rubber insulators. I will go with the silicone, less stink if I over heat them. And they should last longer as well.

I suspect that with the 32 ga wire the base heatsinks up most of the heat in the wire, but with the 30 ga the mass of the wire is greater and more heat goes into the insulator.
I like the 30 ga better though. Can run a bit higher voltage and get a better vape.
Easier to rewick as well. Especially since I went from 1.6 mm coils to 2 mm coils.

could but it limits my options on wire gauge and resistance and such.
And I really do not want to make up a lead welder....
No, neither did I. I'm using a 28AWG contact coil in my EVOD at the moment (no burny the insulator either :D)

Details please. Coil diameter, resistance, wicking and how much power/voltage are you running?

Pic not required.

I posted it previously ... in part one I believe?

Chimney drilled to 3ø ID
Atty holder wick channels drilled to 2ø
Positive pin drilled to 2ø ID
Positive pin "big end" turned down by 1mm OD
Base air holes (all 3) drilled to 1.4ø
6/7 wrap tensioned contact coil 1.1Ω around a 2ø mandrel
Hollow coffee filter wick
Rayon flavour wick

11.5W, plenty of vapour and throat hit

Ahh Yes I remember now. Why did you turn down the end of the big end of the center pin?
Airflow around it? And did it help?

I use cotton and no flavor wick.

Yep, for air flow. I believe so; as it is, I have too much but can still M2L

I actually removed the flavour wick, and changed the coffee filter rolled wick to a tea bag rolled wick Thursday, much easier than getting *just* the right amount of cotton into the coil.

I have the cotton thing down pretty well now. NO gurgles, leaks or dry hits.
Had to redo a few at first when I modded my coils though and went to a 2mm coil.

Good luck to you :) I seem to have just a bit too much, or not quite enough ... not finding a happy medium easily. And I also wanted to try hollow wicks, where the fluid is sitting internally to the coil and see how that went. I wouldn't use them on higher power setups, but then we're not ;)

ETA:
This is the coffee filter wicked EVOD, firstly with a 18g blunt poked through it

Secondly, the wick side on showing it is indeed hollow:

I think to have any great impact, the hollow wick needs to be 3mm or more in diameter precluding the EVOD as the test atty.
