Im new and trying to learn as much as I can so I can make my first purchase and get going. What, pray tell, is a Tootle Puffer. Don't know if I belong here or not!

Hi juniemarie :) Although I have only been lurking in this thread - I am a Tootle Puffer as well. Lots of great advice from others - but I will just throw in a few comments in case they will help you.

Back when I started vaping (3 yrs ago) I too felt I really needed a cig-a-like to get my brain to accept vaping instead of smoking. The one I bought helped me get down to 1 cig a day - after 3 weeks of vaping. It was when I upgraded to an eGo Twist that I realized that I actually could quit with vaping. However, several months after I had quit - I did end up having a few cigarettes - because the shape and size of the eGo was just not a cigarette :(

This was about the time that the eRoll was becoming popular for those wanting a cig-a-like. So I bought an eRoll and filled it with a higher nic level and a tobacco flavor since I was pretty much only using mints and fruit flavors. I then would just use the eRoll whenever the cigarette demon was tempting me.

I am not sure what your budget is like or how much you are willing to invest - however, if you were to go for something with more power like the VV3 or Evod kit and also something like the eRoll - it might give you more options.

I currently use iSticks and a Kanger subtank mini and love them - however when I first started - there was no way my brain could get around the box shape. I was one that had to evolve to where I am now.

Anyway - good luck regardless of what you choose and congratulations for moving toward a healthier choice than smoking. :thumb:

kariM You got it! Well said Kari I think sometimes once people have 2 or more years under their belt its easy for them to forget(thank goodness) how much the brain rebels against the slightest thing it deems alien to its smoking experience..weight size shape…its like a heat seeking missile scanning for a reason why you should quit fooling around and go get a real cig.
I want to minimize that as much as possible. Its gotta feel right its gotta get the nicotine in me or it won't work. Also its gotta travel well, I smoke in the car. Most of my time is spent at home, but Im a big car smoker when Im out and about. Gotta have that flexibility.
Later when (notice I did not say if) I quit I can start fine tuning

Something Im kind of confused about is I see people talking about this or that e cig for example a iTaste vv3 or an Ecab etc. and then someone chimes in and says I got a such and such topper for it. So Im looking at kits right now and in the kit is everything but the juice…am I right? So when they talk about topping it with such and such they mean there buying a ecab or eroll or iTaste tube/battery and something is needed to complete the setup…is that right?

Katdarling Thank you for that……I can just see me on my first day going without a real cigarette, getting a box past my smokers brain….."what the heck is that square thing lady" ….get a real cigarette…that smokers brain is sharp as a tack……just doesn't have my best interests at heart, quite selfish and conniving and very tricky

On an ecab you are stuck with what you got. Pretty much the same for all the cigalikes. You can get clearomizers for some of them, the Esmart clearomizer has a 510 model that will work on 510 threaded cigalike batteries and an 808 threaded version for the 808 threaded batteries. But pretty much you are stuck with the cartomizers or such that are designed to work with that cigalike.

Now on Ego styled batteries and up you can use many different cartomizers, tanks and drippers on them. That is the topper, the tank, or dripper.

Here is a video I would recommend to all new or begining vapers.

It's been 3 years and 2 months since my last cig. I think you'll find out for yourself why it's called a habit. You associate things you do with cigs. You have to replace that with your vape, you know a cig with your morning coffee, or after a nice meal, and of course with that evening cocktail. You'll see that as time goes by it becomes easy. It's not the nic that you crave but all the other crap in a cig.

After 44 years of 2 packs a day, I never thought after numerous times of trying to quit, that a cig would be the furthest thing from my mind. It will get easier and easier each and everyday you vape. Hang in and welcome again!

Reiteration, I know, but a "topper" (a word I believe I coined several years back) is anything you put on top of your battery. There are many different tanks, cartomizers, atomizers, you name it, so I conglomerated* them all into one term. :)

*now if only I could just accept that congomerated in not a word in our language...

Yes your pretty much right. Starter kits usually come with everything needed sans juice. When people mention toppers they are talking about what goes on top of the mod. There are some other combos that are minus something depending on one thing or another, but in your instance most of what people have recommended are complete starter kits. Hope this helps

Great video Robert C I think I will be watching it often to burn the info into my brain. In the meantime I am printing out the list of abbreviations and initials so Iknow what the heck everyone is talking about. That video should be a Sticky in the beginner section of the forum.

As I mentioned I will need to vape in the car but not for longer than 1 hr. so if I have backup batteries that should be all I need. Except I may need to investigate something that I can put my set up in and grab easily at any time. Any ideas? Perhaps a weighted cup, one of those things that look like a bean bag on the bottom
I was just thinking how nice it will be not to have tobacco(I roll) all over my car. Its a holy mess.

    hi junie, welcome :toast:

some great advice sent your way already

my thoughts are find something that works, and go-all-out into it
I don’t like to have several different styles of devices (confusing)
learn how it works, & what it takes to keep them running consistantly

this MOSTLY pertains to the “topper” tanks (& coils)
how you power them is one thing, but making good vapor (atomization)
    is the true story

try and find a coil that does what you want and fits several tanks

the simple KIT allows you time to learn HOW TO VAPE
then turns into a “back-up” afterwards when you advance

this is a complete kit - including juice

    - Kanger Evod Starter Kit

    - 5pk Kanger Replacement Single Coil for Protank 2, Mini Protank 2, and EVOD

I think these are the cheapest ‘coils’ of any style you’ll find
    which makes for thrifty vaping

    - - - - -

here is a great deal on a good tank(s) (same coils) and cheap juice
    - GSH2 2ML Detachable Clearomizer 10 Pack

this is a trusted, fuss-free device that is simple, dependable, great value…
    - Innokin Cool Fire IV

    :)

(of course these are also links to 'sites' you can surf around)

I actually got all the way to quitting with an eRoll, and it took about 3 wks! Not sure if I could have maintained with just the eRoll; during the 3rd week, I got a vv3, and on the day that was actually my first smoke-free day, I got a T3S to put on it (hated those horrible iClear16's that came with the vv3)... and that was that; though I also had a relapse after being smoke-free for 3.5 months, but it had more to do with my wayward appendix and resulting ghastly sickness and being unable to vape for 4 days -- after all that, vaping tasted horrible, and the cravings started up and were not to be denied, but I managed to get back to smoke-free after a month-long smoke break (the eRoll came in real handy that time, too!). :D That was almost 16 months ago. :thumb:

All the "regulars" here have seen this, because i seem to post it about once a week ;) but this was the present i gave myself when I reached a year smoke-free:
