Hope you all are having a good hump day - or a good Thursday over there in Oz!

I'm still putting things together in my mind. I've read various reviews on FT that say something like, "This thing hits hard!"

Does that mainly apply to mech mods ? Aside from the ohm's law variables, what makes one mod (regulated or not) hit harder, or is it all down to the voltage/ohmage/batteries and various construction mats (copper, e.g.)?

For instance in a regulated mod, does the power algorithm (or whatever it's called) on the motherboard inside the mod affect how hard it hits? I can't remember the acronyms for these in order to google it - but it's something like "mean...." Does anyone know what I'm talking about?? Lol

AND does this have any relationship to throat hit or is that pretty much down to nic level, PG, additives, etc? I like good throat hit and was just trying to put all this together in my mind.

"Mean" is one of the regulation algorithms, as opposed to "PWM" -- PWM is more accurate; Mean usually is a bit higher than the selected wattage would indicate; with Vamos, it's called Average, but means about the same thing.

When "vaper fan boyz" say things like "this mod hits hard," it usually indicates that they really don't have a clue; how something "hits" has a lot more to do with the atty, and the resistance of the coil, than anything to do with the mod. If something is hitting harder than the selected wattage seems to indicate that it should, then it's probably in "Mean" mode, and therefore, not accurate -- it's actually delivering higher wattage.

Mean vs PWM - that's what I'm talking about, YES! Thanks, @AndriaD :D

Gotcha. Thanks again!

Mean and average are interchangeable and neither are a regulation algorithm.
PWM = pulse width modulation and is a way of regulating power.
RMS = Root mean square, decently simple explanation here. (note mean aka average) show up too

YES YES - RMS is what I was trying to remember. That's it! I'm going to read the link now. Thanks @Woofer :rickroll:

Ok, it's median & mode that aren't synonymous with mean/average.

Does it ever strike anyone how "low-tech" our devices are when compared to our other electronic devices (like cell phones)? It's 2016, yet in e-cigarette-land sometimes it feels like we've just gotten out of the stone age.

Then I think, "well how high tech does electrical engineering need to be for vaping purposes?"

I guess since smokers-turned-vapors are such a minority market and there are no ginormous corporations involved in the industry (e.g., General Electric, etc.) there's not enough money to be made - oh and of course, due to regulatory issues?

Just a weird sensation I get sometimes.
