Such a touching story...animals are the most amazing creatures.I thought that you might appreciate that. Bruce MacKinnon is the cartoonist for the Chronicle Herald and has done some amazing work.
James Delorey was a 7 year old boy with autism who could not speak. He and his dog Chance wandered away from his house into the woods in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in December 2009. A snowstorm hit and after several days the dog returned to the house and led searchers to the boy, who was barely alive. James was flown to hospital but succumbed to hypothermia and exposure. The searchers found a depression in the snow next to the boy's body where the dog had huddled with him for days to keep him warm.
This was the cartoon that day.
The artist grasped the emotion/sadness with a few strokes of his pen. Not an easy accomplishment.
Cape Breton is a magical place, full of genuine folk. Love it there.
