Mpls is OK.. Same ol thing tho.. Once youve lived there long enough you run out of stuff to do .. I think Duluth is boring , but Has a HUGE tourist population in the summer.. ( largest in MN I believe ), and even winter, and PPl LOVE it here. . But I find it boring. WHy, cuz ive lived here forever.. San Antonio was like mpls , but 10x the size, cleaner, and nicer ppl, with alot more to do .. And you dont seem like a city girl.. U seem like a rolling stone.. SOmeone that likes to move, and not get caught up in the mainstream. Artsy, i guess?

Bang on. I'm a writer.

And the mainstream is boring. :)

I am of two minds. I love moving around and seeing new places, but... I also want to actually accomplish something, and I need a good lifestyle to feel healthy.

Those two things are not compatible with each other.

So, I think I will probably spend much of my life alternating between nomad-ism and stability. Oh well. Works for me.

But I am a bit of a city person, overall. I'm certainly not a camping person. I like my modern amenities, even if I'm living on the cheap.

Yeah, that's the other thing about MN... the people. If you're one of those tourists who just likes to stand around and look at stuff, I guess it's not too bad here. But I've never been a "tourist." I like to dig my fingers into places and really experience them...

The people here can be as cold as January. There's good ones, like anywhere, but it's hard to crack that Superficial Nice and get to the person underneath it. Despite growing up here, I never developed that.

Yeah, I saw that pic and HAD to use it for this forum. Thinking of using it everywhere else, too... If I was hotter and wore make-up, that'd be me. :2cool:

I want a "career" of a sort, however much writing counts. And certainly, once you get up and running, you can have both - nomadism and a career. But the thing is getting started. It's probably one of the hardest professions in the world to succeed at. Even a degree doesn't improve your chances much.

My never-ending quest in life is how to have all of that, and not have to give anything up. Yes, I was a difficult child.

A degree in writing is useless.. I consider it a God Given talent .. If your not born with it, Its gonna take Alot more effort to get to the levels of your peers

I almost bought a Vette, which Is my dream car.. But I had to think practical since we only have 4 months of summer here :(

Oh to be MJ79-C6 :toast::(
I want a Mazda Rx-8 Soooo bad!!

I used to own a RX-7 and with the rotary engine u had the gas consumption of a 4cylinder with the power of a 350, it was friggin awesome.

The way that thing stuck to the road under high speeds was crazy, but they wll never be anything super special, just a poormans sportscar imo.

Ehhh, depends. You can start with boring, technical writing, slowly do a latter dig, and break in that way. That's one of the ways to success in writing which damn near requires a degree of some sort. But it's also one of the most effective.

I'm told I'm good (it's hard to divorce yourself from the self-hating critic within), but unfortunately also young, mercurial, and uprooted. None of these things are a recipe for success, no matter how good you are. Well, I suppose if you keep your stuff locked in a safe, die, and then wait 50 years it could work.

And that's the other thing. "Good" doesn't matter. Look at Twilight and The DaVinci Code. Best sellers by people who can't write worth a damn. I can write better than them drunken within an inch of my life. *shields herself from flying shoes*

It's all chance and circumstance. But ah well. It's the only god-given talent I have. :glare:

WEll Look at the "mainstream media" today .. With promoting and hyping new big name books and movies, they are gonna sell.. Im not a big fan of "writing" in movies, since they are usually boring to me .. Im not gonna lie, 30 im an action junkie and I like Michael Bay type movies// lol.. But I do understand the best scripts and writing sometimes are never seen. But its modern culture now.. People dont want a "good story" they want entertainment .. Which Is a bummer for writers like yourself

It's a bummer for everyone. I recently got approached for something for the Discovery Channel I was told was a "documentary." The subject matter was something you could dive into for years and never reach the bottom - an opportunity for real enlightening television.

They lied. Probably in an attempt to sucker people in. It was more of a reality show than anything else.

Telling a great story and exploring the depth of a subject takes work and thought and intelligence. People don't want that. They just want to sit down and numb out.

Meaningful art is, and has always been, a pursuit of the minority. Which means slim odds for those of who actually want to make meaningful art.

Agreed, And will also agree , that reality TV is out of control;.. There is a reality show for everything, and everybody.. Even down to the loser has-been Hollywood druggies, who complete re-hab then get ANOTHER spin off of their own show.. Its all pretty sad
