I was a pack and a half a day Parliament Light smoker and 24mg is just about perfect. If I feel the need to back off a bit, I drop to 16mg. Hubby is/was (still smoking some) a 2 and a half pack a day Marlboro Reds smoker and it took 36mg before he even started considering dropping smokes altogether. Now we are working on finding him the right flavor! Fingers crossed that he will drop the analogs soon!

ARGH!!!

I just can't get past those last few analogs. Started at 18mg, quickly went up to 24 and some 36. A few weeks ago, I stepped up even MORE to 48mg. Still "need" those 5 or so analogs. WTF is wrong with me?!

Guess I'm just a crack ......

Try vaping longer than you smoke. I have found that if I vape for longer intervals (sometimes chain vaping with lower nic) that it is easier to pre-empt the craving than stop it once it's started. In other words, if you get ahead of the craving by vaping more consistently then you would have smoked, it prevents the craving altogether. You do need to exercise care in the level you use if you go the chainvaping route, but if you can tolerate 48mg then perhaps not as much care is needed as for some.

If you are already chainvaping more I am at a loss. Perhaps it is psychological. Have you tried vaping through a craving and telling yourself you can have a smoke in 5 minutes if you need one, then vaping for 5 minutes? Sometimes I find that vaping takes a bit longer to get the nicotine where it needs to be, so if I can stave off the craving for just a few minutes, the vapor has the time it needs to do the job.

cincy, oh
I started at 24mg and stayed at 24mg so far. I even got 48mg when i decided to start DIY ejuicing so it could easily be cut in half.

I have a future plan of slowly dropping the mg, but I'll wait a couple of months before worrying about it. As long as my last 5 cigarettes stay in their pack and don't go in my mouth, why mess with success.

The concentration of nicotine in the juice is a little misleading. If you vape 12 mg all day long are you better off than someone who does 36 mg a few times a day? There are so many options available to vapers that smokers don't have, it's hard to compare.

If I were allowed to post in the grown up section I would ask "What amount of nicotine per day (mg x ml used) do you need to stay off analogs" and then ask for details.

It seems that with options, various people have gravitated towards a more unique experience. Some go high so they can vape less, while others go low and vape more. I guess it all depends on if they want the 'nic hit' or the calming after effect (or both). And don't forget some people have juice stingy anemic attys while others have juice guzzeling oral fog machines. :)

Yes you have a good point there fot the survey to be worthwhile you need more info such as how much, in volume.
Personally I think vaping high for short periods might be better than vaping low for long periods because you are vaping less PG or VG.
Afterall the VG or PG is just a delivery system.
I mean a short draw on high might be the same as a long draw on low.

I know if I smoke low nicotine ciggies I inhale more amd draw longer whereas with a stronger ciggy I would not inhale so much usually.
SO its a fairly complex science.

I know if I inhale lightly with a ecig it tastes stronger then with a strong inhale because the vapour is more dense, it has less air in it.

With an analogue however it is different I think because the more you inhale the brighter and hotter the tobacco burns, to a certain extend anyway perhaps?
When you inhale strongly the vapouriser does not get any hotter, infact it is a cooling effect.

Hey Toker. Embrace those 5 or so cigs. Let em' be constant reminders of ALL the cigs your NOT smoking! Real common story here abouts is those last daily few just stop being needed. Some folks it's days, others it's months, but it happens often enough. Just go with it. And that 48mg.. I've a bottle of 48mg VG for DIY and there are times I'm tempted.....

waht an odd distribution in the graph.... i was expecting more of a lower nic level trend

That's funny darkmatter. My take was just the opposite initially and now that I'm trying to cut down I'm really really surprised at the low numbers! I had to have 36mg to stop tobacco and at 24mg well... it aint' easy!

Great thread OTD,

34 year 1.5 pack camel, marlboro, imports form Mexico.

I was not trying to quit but avoid the ridiculous analog price.

First day vaping I forgot about analogs without even trying, I keep a pack in my drawer always and have smoked 7 cigarettes since April.

I vape 0 nic and only if I ever feel like I need an analog, (very rarely), I use 12 mg nic for 10 minutes and I continue to vape no nic.

In my case I have found the nicotine has very little to do with my "addiction", but I rarely put my e-cig down. I believe I am addicted to the action of inhaling/exhaling and not so much to nicotine, is it only me?

I rarely put my e-cig down.

Pack every 24 hours smoker and I find the 18MG does me just fine, but only been vaping maybe 2 weeks.

12mg first 2 weeks, then 8mg, now 6mg.

Yeah yeah, rub it in :p

I'm still determined to make 24mg work for me, taking an occasional hit of 36mg today made it easier.

6mg indeed! :D

I'm pretty convinced that I just need to vape more consistently. I have a habit of vaping for about 5 minutes then putting it in my pocket...then the crave hits and half the time I say ..... it and go for the analog.

Maybe I'll learn...someday

What worked for me was to completely quit all nicotine for two days, then when I started up again, to stick with the electronic cigarette. Of course I had to time it so that I had no responsibilities to fulfill during those two days, because I lose a good 50 IQ points when I am off nicotine.

I did take a puff or two of an analog on occasion, but after a couple of weeks I stopped because it just tasted nasty. I had smoked a grand total of perhaps 6 cigs in that 2-3 weeks.

Can't vote again but I have an update. The 36mg I was hoping to get me fully off analogs didn't quite make it. Now I'm using 48mg and 36mg as my all day vape. Yaaa totally off analogs for over a month now.:D No cravings and I'm doing just great! At night I lower the mgs to 12 or 24. I did try a puff off an analog about 3 weeks ago and thought I was going to throw up. It was horrible. And I can now put it down after a few hits instead of chain-vaping all day.:)

4-8mg works for me, 2-3 cartomizers a day. I didn't know that was 'low' for a pack a day smoker until I was about three weeks into it.

same for me, i can deal with 4mg, but 6 or 8 is a bit better, i don't do higher than 8 anymore, i started off at 16 and realised i wanted to hit this thing all day so had to move down the nic as i was getting wired too easily.

I answered 12mg, but that's with 2-4 cigarettes a week still (and trying dang hard to hold it there)... It's enough to take the edge off most days of the week, but it's still awfully choppy waters.
More vaped nicotine than 12mg makes my heart race (to my surprise) and doesn't have the calming effect of tobacco (not to my surprise). Still waiting on that snus... ;)
