Now is all this overkill for mixing a recipe to enjoy? Heck ya! :D But if you like geeking out and playing around with labware there's nothing wrong with learning a little more about it.

DIY is more than saving money. It's for fun :)
I guess DIY accuracy matters most if you have really sensitive taste buds (I don't) or are doing scientific Youtube flavor reviews (I don't) :)

As far as the dual mix exercise, I was surprised to come out that close, doing one by volume, and the other by mass.

My head is spinning... and Im a patent holder... lol.

See line on beaker... fill to line... see line on syringe... fill to line... that all I wanna know.

Anything more sophisticated than that and Im like Charlie Brown sitting in class with the teachers voice sounding like a muted trumpet.

woaaa, woa, whah, whah whah, wooooohmap!

All kidding aside I do appreciate a more scientific approach. Its fun to see how far some people will go just to make some juice.

Its fun to see how far some people will go just to make some juice.

In a way it's more than just having fun.
For example:
I've got VG from a few different places. The density of these range from 1.250 to 1.259g/ml @ 22C.
One of them probably already has about 3% water in it. Usable, but would take less thinning.
I buy nic in 100% PG only now. Why? So I can watch out for this strange 'Heavy Nic' juice which could be masked with all VG juice.
Diluting PG based 100mg/ml down to 12mg/ml keeps my mixes close to 70/30 VG/PG.
I can't do chemical analysis of the stuff I buy, but I can at least do some physical property testing.
You can bet that anything comes up strange I'll be contacting my vendor.

Something to think about:
If you ordered 70/30 VG/PG and got 30/70 VG/PG, could you tell?
DO you check the nic strength at least once for each incoming batch you get?
Maybe a little geekness goes a long way with DIY :)

Well personally I can tell. Im very PG sensitive and listen to my body. Anything higher than 30% pg in my juice and I get crushing headaches. Plus theres the taste. I think maybe because I vape high vg juice that the sweetness of vg is more noticeable. PG, to me, tastes stale and dry. Like it was rinsed through a dirty sock or something.

I agree with you completely tho. Quality control should be just as important at home as it is at a vendor's place. Mistakes can happen, but when you have a good vendor with great CS that makes it so much easier. I have a great vendor and unless they go absolutely haywire Im sticking with em for good.

Plus the fact that they take rhe time to actually research potentially new and better base products means alot to me. Its nice they want to be on the cutting edge of things. Yep, new products can flop for sure but its taking the time to test and research that impresses me about a vendor also.

Wizard labs does all the above and i am one happy vaper juice wise.

I agree.

DIY has really made the difference for me. Flavored juices don't keep well and you have to keep restocking. Pre-filled cartos don't seem to age well either.

John is very meticulous and his product shows it. He is very polite and helpful (even to a know it all like me :)). Trust in your poison supplier is very important.

The few tests I do at home would probably be able to find the 70/30 vs 30/70 mix up BEFORE I mixed up a batch. I also think I would find a batch of HOT or HEAVY Nic, before I vaped some of it. I really don't want to have to rely on these old worn out taste buds to keep me safe :)

I know this is an older thread, but I've been reading through it and saw several mentions of WL's Ice nic base, which I'd like to try.

I haven't ordered from them before, but was thinking about trying DIY again but I don't see Ice listed on their site.

Did I miss something ~ Like maybe Ice is a beta product or has been discontinued?

It is a "Beta" product at a slight price premium.
Email John (the owner) to see if it is available.
But seeing that you are from Mo., maybe not :)

You may be right ~ it can take years for new things to hit the Ozarks....:p

Once I was talking to a company in VA that had mailed something to me but I hadn't received. They asked me - in all seriousness - if we had roads where I lived. I told them that of course we had roads, but they were only wide enough for one horse at a time.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Wizard Labs is amazing. Everything I have purchased from them has been pretty good. The nic is good, the PG and VG is awesome. I dont' get any weird flavor from them.
Then it really got me thinking, if I am able to make consistent eliquid why can't I purchase eliquid that is alway consistent. It doesn't make any sense. There is a LOT of junk out there.

Hello fellow members. I now have been mixing my own e-juice for several weeks and I have been very happy with my experiments. However today my order from LorAnn Oils arrived. Wow I was so excited to try this out. But the wind was taken out of my sail when after vaping just 1 min on my vivi nova the clear rubber thats on top of the atty turned dark yellow and expanded to twice its size and vaping went down to zero. WHY is this happening? PLEASE advise from the experts
Did I order the wrong type of flavorings?
AND BTW:::
All of my DIY supplies are from Wizard Labs. They are located about 45 min from me. I picked up my last order and they are supper nice and extremely helpful. They spent over an hour with me explaining the different calculations and its was way past closing time for them.

Well that just stinks, don't it? I'm not sure the specific flavor you have, and I'm not familiar with the rubber in the Vivi Nova. So, I'm pretty useless.

All I do know is that there are more than a few possible ejuice ingredients well known to cause issues with various plastics and rubber. Everything from tank ends, but mostly reactions with tanks causing them to crack (poly-carbonate I believe). Definitely something to research if you use any sort of tank - even if you don't DIY, there's lists of tank-dis-approved vendor juices even. Primary issues are with acidic/fruity flavors.

How is the Wizard treating everybody? :D

Pretty darn good, as per usual. Ordered up some new goodies on the weekend that shipped yesterday (and have already departed from FL PO today). Nic, VG, some lab equip, bottles, two flavors, and nic titration chemicals included this time (just noticed the nice instructions for the test kit are up).

Only nic provider I bother with now - I enjoy both the fire and ice varieties for different things.

For those juices you think might cause you a problem, try Pyrex tanks or Polypropolene tanks.. not Polycarbonate tanks.

i just placed third order. previous orders have been accurate and very prompt. the 48mg VG base nicotine did have a slightly yellowish tint to it but it seems clear now that I have diluted it and taste fine. Their prices for bases and flavors can't be beat as far as any U.S. vendors i have seen in my meager experience. Unfortunately i have to pay sales tax since i live in the same state. Too bad there are no coupon codes i know of.
