That maybe what it comes to in the US.I can understand merchants needing to verify age, but I'd be very uncomfortable providing the information they're asking for. Fortunately for me, Canadian regulations are a bit different. Canada Post will verify age on delivery, so online shops generally use the postal system for any needed age checks. The postie just looks at my ID and doesn't record anything. It's also prohibited to even request someone's SIN (our version of the SSN) if you don't need it for tax reporting. American companies periodically get into trouble here by trying to use SINs for employee IDs or account identifiers.
Unfortunately it's an extra $6+ per package for adult signature and of course it has to be recieved in person.
