Years ago..during a ice storm in Missouri my family set up a tent in the house. It helps with staying warm when no heat is available. Squatters do the same thing to stay warm. Just a idea if you have a tent.

We don't but we have been living in sort of a kids blanket fort in the most insulated room in the house. LOL yeah silly for a couple of over 55s but at least we can keep from shivering.

Ours, also electric, has not just the breakers in the panel, but breakers in the motor / fan compartment. Maybe they tripped?

Yeah, I was gonna mention that, but not familiar with electric furnaces. My gas furnace has a fuse where the electrical wires enter the furnace.

Also on a modern furnace (modern meaning about 25 years or younger, mine is about 20 years old), there may be diagnostic LEDs that flash. When something's malfunctioning, they will flash in a certain pattern. These are visible through a hole in the bottom front panel of my furnace.

Then inside a panel or something will be a diagnosis code chart to give a rough idea o f the system that is malfunctioning. Sometimes you can fix the issue, sometimes not. Gotta research it.

The thermostat may have been tripped - especially on an electric furnace and if it was off long enough (10 minutes or more). Unless you have the manual for it you'll need to call someone to come out and reset it for you. My kids and I got through an entire Ohio winter with these little heaters. They are more than heaters - they are heat fans and go for under $20. We closed off the living room with inexpensive plastic drop cloths from Home Depot and the kids slept on the sofa bed and me in a recliner. Once a room is warmed up you only need one heater per room. I'd get up before the kids every day and heat up the bathroom. Good Luck! :)

Here's an easy four step process to resetting your thermostat after a power outage.
  1. Turn off your thermostat. Before doing any other troubleshooting, start by finding your thermostat and turning it off. ...
  2. Locate and reset circuit breaker. ...
  3. Wait 30 minutes. ...
  4. Turn the thermostat back on.
How to Reset an Electric Furnace
  1. First, turn off the power supply to the furnace by turning off the breaker in the circuit box.
  2. Locate the reset button on the furnace and press it to reset the furnace. ...
  3. If the button is popped up, press it down.
  4. Return the cover to the blower compartment and turn the power on.

Gosh thanks everybody for these many kind replies. I'm off to buy some of each one suggested.

Take a look at rebuildable atomizers. Those allow you to buy a coil of stainless steel or Kanthal wire and make and replace your own coils. It only takes a few minutes to recoil a rebuildable atty and a 100' foot spool of wire costs about $9.00.

Can anyone recommend a small 3-ish cu ft freezer for my nic? I think I might prefer a chest freezer in this situation, but I'll bite on an upright.

My problem: I currently keep my nic in an extra old fridge (roughly mid 1990s) with a top freezer but I think I need to get a dedicated freezer. I check it every day, once or twice a day, and it stays between 10F and 0F. However, every once in a while, for whatever reason, it will not kick on and the temp in the freezer will go as high as right under 30F or so before it kicks in again. It happened a year or so ago and I posted about it. But it just happened again today and again it finally kicked it right before it reached 30F (thankfully). So I'm worried and I think it may be time to seriously think about getting a new, small, dedicated freezer.

I was looking at some on Home Depot's site. But it's hard to say what's good or not with reviews.

I like the idea of buying at HD because it's very close to me and I can have one shipped to store if not in stock and save on shipping. But I'm more concerned with buying a freezer that others have had good experience with (1 year or more).

Thanks.

    I have this one:
IGLOO 3 cu. ft. Chest Freezer in White-ICFMD35WH - The Home Depot
Mine is a Whirlpool brand tho.
Exact same as the Igloo brand at HD.
Most all are made in the same China factory and re-branded.
So far running great after 6 years.

Yes these brands of appliances are mostly the same, just a different brand/logo. Learned that a long time ago from a repairman. I'll take a look at it. It's also a perfect example of why reviews are worthless for the most part. It only has a 3.9 star rating, yet assuming everything is the same as yours (just a different brand), yours is 6 years running (nothing to scoff at for a modern $200 appliance)

Yep, gone are the days of getting rid of an appliance because they look ugly but still work.
Now you cross your fingers they work more than a year or two.
    Here's another for cheaper:

Isn't that what happens every time there is a threat, a panic, looming vapocalypse... All very hard on the pocketbook.

Yeah, you have to learn to walk away. Can be hard for something like an addiction, though. Really hard.

I bought this one in 2016, still going strong with no issues and it's energy efficient too.

Threat? I guess I don't see this, mail ban, as a threat ...it's a promise.
Panic? More making sure to get items you normally buy online before you can't anymore.
Looming? I guess no more vape mail within the next 90 or so days is looming on a fast track.
Vapocalypse? I mean people will still be able to buy some stuff from local vape shops depending on their inventory ...as long as there are vape shops ...if you have them near you and can actually go to one, not everyone can.
    So maybe for some?
All I can say is when this thread started in 2016 I am so thankful I stocked up I would be in a world of hurt now if I had not.
