It is remarkable, to me, how little energy it takes for a modern large refrigerator or freezer to run.
I was surprised, and confused by new bills

Fridge/freezer has no peak use season. It's not like it's only on at christmas. So the correlation never occurred to me

I really noticed when I was using a "demand throttle" generator during a power outage. The refrigeration gear demanded almost no increase in output after an initial burst when the units kicked on. After that the generator was near idle. I was pleasantly surprised.

The husband got a freezer at Costco, it was not crazy expensive and it's large. I got a small old fridge and freezer at a Church Bazaar for 20 bucks. It has brown wood paneling on it. Works great. It can get so cold, if I need the fridge part to ever be a freezer, I can turn it down to 0 and everything will freeze.

Any thing that heats up is the energy sucker.

Plug a coffee pot in and that baby is full throttle.

We're catching up.

And we are really working at it. It seems to be something a lot of people want and the ruling class is more than eager to oblige.

Get the squad in power and we'll all be moving to Australia for relief. Maybe even N. Korea.

That thread is TERRIFYING. It put it in context: length of time it takes to have a baby. And, the baby needs YOU which is terrifying, sure, but when you NEED the baby, it takes a whole lot more FORTITUDE.

Never before have I wished to be older but the damn women in my family live into their 90s! I'm not even 45! I could HAVE more babies!! I said so to the husband last night and he answered, "You are scaring me right now and this conversation is also a complete turn off." LOL

That is how TERRIFYING 9 months is. 9 months to birth your vape baby, and then you have to care for it, keep it nice and cool, maintain it, love it and it's EXPENSIVE.

I am not moving again until like, the land and house are final. It would kill me. The good news is the plot of land backs up against a MOUNTAIN. A bit of dynamite and you could have a great, up, "cold room."

We have plans. No moving.

OH MY GOD
(That's my sig today)

I swear, I'm paying off all my debt in the next year. Nothing cute. Nothing shiny. No more clothes either

My freezer is at least thirty years old. As of 2010, it was deemed efficient enough not to need replacing; I have no idea how it would rate now. It still seems to work perfectly well, and my electricity bill hasn't gone up, but it's going to conk eventually. I just hope that happens during winter.

I've had a 5000W generator for about 20 years. It's only used when we have a power outage during a storm or ice and snow time. I back feed it with an 8 gauge cable I made up to match the polarity.

5000 is only big enough to run lights and maybe the gas furnace intermittently. I've thought about buying a whole house generator, but it's only once every year or two that I'd need it.

I have a 6500W Gen. I've planned on wiring up the main panel so I can use the breakers to control power distribution. One of those, "When I get around to it" projects. Which if I'm honest means, "It'll never happen".

I have a 7000w propane generator. Runs everything but the hot water heater and electric stove.

Yes it is. But I keep convincing myself it’s not necessary so I just keep running extension cords.
We started out running extension cords because nobody had the plug that was needed to fit the 240V outlet on the generator. The problem with that was you can't run a 240V well pump off extension cords, which mean toilets couldn't be flushed and showers couldn't be taken. That became a stinky situation after a couple of days.

    That would motivate me.
