He said they want to save the children and the industry.
Yeah, the two mainstream news channels I've seen today, are doing the "vaping has killed a bunch of people" thing again too, no mention of THC at all. POTUS seems to be echoing that narrative again.

Even my local newscasters are using that language (again). And they've reported on the Vit E-a link. So...

Combine that with the "flavors are the reason kids vape" thing....(also mentioned specifically on NBC by an "expert"...)

Sigh.

Right. There was no mention in the lead in of the THC/Vitamin E laced nicotine causing the problem. Just that 2500 people were hospitalized and 55 had died nationwide from vaping. Before last year, we never heard of anyone who died or became ill from vaping except for a couple of exploding mods.

Teenagers ruin everything :)

Just saw President Trump on TV news saying they (he) is going to ban flavored nicotine in pods. May be effective as soon as Friday. He reassured that it would be temporary until they have time to test them. Whatever that means. I have a feeling it will take them until......hmm, May 2020. He said they want to save the children and the industry.

Got to look on the bright side. This could be the first foot in the door towards educating the population at large that the teen infatuation with pod vaping is a different animal from non-pod vaping and the THC health problems. Rightly or wrongly there's a large segment of the population who will at least consider that idea if the President says it's so.

I have no idea why he's taking this position. It doesn't seem like it was the easy way out politically. But I guess it doesn't matter. It might not change the final outcome in May and it won't affect the State bans, but good news has been in short supply lately.

Is AOC your Congress critter? I still don't understand how that happened? The question is will it be reelected?

Might be a little tougher for her in the future. Losing 25,000 jobs by alienating Amazon didn’t go over all that well with her constituency who would have really liked those jobs. And she’s sure not ever going to bring in any little pet project for her district.

She might be safe for 2020, but unless something dramatic changes, 2022 may be rough for her.

She didn't think it was fair to give Amazon $4 billion so she had to chase them off. Some 2nd grader should have explained to her how tax revenue works. It would really be nice to live in her reality but most people have to wake up. She'll get her pay for the rest of her life so she'll be okay. They should make her serve beverages when Congress is in session. That is something she's qualified to do and she'd be doing something useful. LOL!

I think the American voter has lost faith in the government. Most people are busy and don't keep up with what's really happening. You can't trust anything you hear in the news from either side. And unless you actually research the truth it's hard to make an informed decision about anything anymore.

That's been our problem for a while now. There's a lot more lies than truth about vaping out there and it would take hard work to get to the truth. For most people vaping doesn't matter at all so they believe what they read, which most of the time is that vaping kills people.

It wasn't always like that. Vaping used to be seen as a bit funny but OK. At least I remember it that way. People I knew were just happy that I had found a way to get off the cigs. Not any more. It didn't take the corporations long to turn the ship around.

Did you ever see that Eddie Murphy movie Disguished Gentleman where he gets elected to Congress? There's this part where a senior congressman was telling him how to decide who to vote for. If the scene was nowadays it would go something like this
" Big Tobacco and Big Pharma will give you $1 million to vote no on vaping. The Vaping lobbyist will give you $100k to vote yes on vaping. What way do you think you should vote?"

I was thinking it was his easiest way to appease both sides... both sides lost a little and won a little and he got his hands the least dirty that he could by doing it this way. (We were facing an all out flavor ban, but got just pods instead. They were wanting an all out flavor ban, but got pods instead).

True, but I think of these districts who keep voting for the same person for 30 years when they know he/she is a bum and I have to shake my head in disbelief. I’ve always felt voters ultimately have themselves to blame for the dysfunction in DC because we’re the ones who keep re-electing the scumbags.

Why does Ted Kennedy now come to mind?

12 years ago I was vaping in restaurants and other similar places and people were simply curious about it, some would get excited when I explained what it was. You can't even vape outdoors at Disney anymore now. Initially you could vape outdoors anywhere there, then they made you vape with the smelly smokers, but now nothing is allowed.

    And many others.
Yeah, but for me- he was there during my "awakening" to politics, and even back then, I wondered how (even with the Kennedy name), such a slimy drunk of a criminal could not only get elected, but re-elected ad nauseam.

    Sigh.

Same here in DFW. Local NBC station opened with 50 deaths and 2,000 lung injuries and then right into the ban on flavored ecigarette cartridges like they were synonymous. Zero mention of the contaminated, black-market THC products causing actual harm. Irresponsible and dangerous.
