Help Nixologists!

I will probably (oh I hope) be traveling from AZ to WV. It's about a 30 hour driving trip. It will probably be a U Haul truck driven by us although the husband is also considering a shipping container which I am not so much a fan of (although both options suck.

So I have a ton of snus (someone suggested dry ice for that and I suppose I could, I mean it's a biggish stash but it would fit in a cooler in my car.

My nic? I still have to buy some more bottles and like transfer some which I am (obviously) going to do soon.... Any thoughts on keeping it cold or will it have a more or less negligible effect since it is a one time thing? I guestimate about 4.5 hours of driving but like, where on earth would I pick up dry ice on the way? I mean would it be good for the glass bottles anyway? Would they get too cold and shatter? Should I just pack it near the front and empty out the water and add ice every day?

What to do? Help? The freezer won't really be an issue. There are a few paltry meat products in there now, but like, nothing really major....

Opinions welcomed.

I"m not particularly concerned about my frozen nic lasting. Wizard Labs says that it should last indefinitely if stored properly, according to the thread below.

How long will nicotine last if properly stored?
I concur. Right at this moment, I'm vaping unflavored liquid made from nic base I got over six years ago. It had not changed color, and developed no off smell at all. I see no reason why that would change in another six years or another 12, or however long it stays in the freezer.

Where in WV? I would just love to meet you and your husband. I have thought about moving back to CT to be close to my mother and sister and most of my family, I would probably put the few liters of nic I have in a cooler with regular ice. I might use dry ice, but I'd have to consult with a friend of mine, that uses it frequently, to get some instruction/tips from him as I'm not too familiar with it.

eta: and your son too of course if he's traveling with you both.

Depends on the time of year. If it the weather is cool, I wouldn't worry about it much. I've had a couple of power outages here in FL after hurricanes Matthew and Irma that lasted a week or so and my nic doesn't seem to be much worse for the wear.

But if it's during the summer heat, I'd pack it in a cooler with some regular ice, which can easily be replenished en-route as it melts.

I would not use dry ice unless you come up with some means of keeping the dry ice from coming into direct contact with the glass bottles. Dry is is really cold (roughly -110°F) and I would worry that direct contact with the glass bottles might create enough of a temperature gradient to crack or shatter them.

That would be the first question I'd ask my neighbor, and I'd probably do a little experiment of my own to see. I'd probably just go with regular ice though.

    3. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Attributed to Edmund Burke, including by John F Kennedy in a speech in 1961. Burke didn’t say it, and its earliest form was by John Stuart Mill, who said in 1867: “Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.” Thanks to Andrew Marshall.

Clarksburg. It would be fun to meet up, certainly although perhaps not en route this trip. We gonna be tired and STRESSED since we are currently thinning our herd, and I am doing crazy yoga and drinking protein shakes so I can help the husband like, lift the heavy items. Every time I move, my back hurts for 6 months. It's hurting already. I MEAN! Heh.

Thanks @Rossum. I just ordered the dang glass to finish putting it in that. I think the ice solution will probably work.

IT is going to be DEAD of SUMMER frankly. Either late July or early August if my calculations are correct. It kind of depends on how much time I can negotiate for us to move after I get done credentialing and background checking (although I believe they are almost done) so, uh, yeah, that's going to suck. But I would feel creepy about dry iice generally. Not so worried about the snus, no but like I am only 46! I think I have something nuts approaching 27 liters last I calculated. I was thinking about getting another liter from Heartland, I don't know if that is smart or I should wait. I like, usually just order a liter when I finish one now, but well, lDK. I probably will given who knows when this law will pass.

Sometimes I wish I were older but I don't see the issue shoving the freezer in the back of the truck, then like icing it. It should just about work once I bottle everything.

    Cool. Thank you!

@stols001 , 27 liters is a lot of mass, and freezers are incredibly well insulated. If it were me I'd put a thermometer in it and monitor the temp , it may take several days before the temps rise to where you have to worry about the nic getting too warm. If you add ice, then when you get to your destination, it would be wise to empty the freezer and get rid of any water from the ice melting, or you may have a problem with shattered bottles as that water re-freezes and expands around your bottles...
if you go the dry ice method, just put the dry ice in a Styrofoam cooler on top of the nic with the lid open, and wear gloves if handling the dry ice.

Yeah, that's a good point. I also have a ton of ice packs in there. Well not a TON but you can buy them from Dollar General for a dollar so I could go get 30 more.. So I could do that, to remove runoff ice, and freeze them overnight somehow. Hmm.... Motels have Ice makers so I could just empty one into a large cooler and like refreeze the ice packs overnight. IDK. But yeah that is a good point. It is a fairly large freezer. I'm not good with sizes but it is about 2/3 of a coffin length and comes up to past my waist (I am 5'5) so eh it's large.

Think you forgot about one crucial element.

Have you made preparations so your Hair Ties can make the move without being damaged in anyway?

Does the freezer have a drain hole?
if yes, then I would just top it off with a bunch of bags of ice. Drain it as needed along the way, and top off the ice if needed.

If no, then I would definitely use Blue Ice packs. If you move in August and the heat melts the ice, it would suck if you had no way to drain it along the way. Plus, a lot of melted ice will add a lot of weight to the freezer and make it difficult to unload. Ice packs you can remove would then be quite handy.

Thanks for all the ideas, they're pretty helpful. Yeah, I am NOT looking forward to loading the truck although me and the husband are being rather ruthless, LOL. I think we are keeping like 35% of what we go through and a fair amount of it is for the kid, but he's too young to treasure it yet. Oh well, I am more dreading the return to Tucson, but every day we do a bit more so hopefully it won't suck too much. I really never, ever even want to finish THIS move, but at least we are headed somewhere PLEASANT the hobbit and the elf are happy (oy, hopefully) although apart from one reference my credentialing appears to be DONE. They don't frantically start finishing that until your background check is done.

I am nice and boring. I think my worse offense (that is not HIPPA protected) is like, going 19 miles over the speed limit. I think I was like going 23, but like, the cop reduced it. He was doing me a big favor I had no idea at the time, going over 20 over the speed limit was a felony.

Then, he noticed my lithium tremor and pulled me out and started giving me sobriety tests I think he finally ran out after 12 or something. I kept telling him: "You are stressing me out dude, I can't pass these things SOBER let alone impaired. I mean, tell me when a minute has passed with my eyes closed and head tilted back WHO CAN DO THAT?" I was like 10 minutes from home and I was like "Dude I was going uh, 23 miles over the speed limit and in full control of the vehicle! Do you not SEE how like, neatly and politely I pulled over so you could give me a ticket?" I finally started crying and he let the husband come get me. The husband was incredulous he was like, "YOU told the COP you were returning from an NA meeting?" I was like, "Well honesty seems to be the best policy because you could be BAILING me out right now."

I did not treat that cop fairly in return like, I went to traffic court because at the time I was unaware AZ has this arcane law that gives you three points per offense, like, 5 miles over the limit? 3 points? Driving without a license? 3 points. Not coming to a full and complete stop, 3 FREAKING POINTS. So I went to court to fight it and unlike in MD where the cop just goes if they get a second or they want to, well AZ cops are "mandated" to go so my "delay and delay" in the hopes the guy would not show was FUTILE and not only that when he was describing me he was like, "I often park in that area because it is a high speeding area" as part of my disgusting driving practice which in AZ is like, PROFILING so he got in big trouble with the judge. My FINE got reduced but I was like, "Hey, what about my POINTS?" and the judge was like "Nothing I can do about that."

It was an area where the speed limit was at least TEN miles too low, so I look at is as like doing my area a FAVOR. You know, everyone lost a little, everyone won a little. Cops STILL do not venture there.

Pardon me for that digression, I'm a bit fried from unpacking/'repacking.

I will drive way slower with the nic in glass bottles, however.

@Cloud-FF7 the beauty of hair ties is they can be purchased for a buck at almost an store of any sort. Maybe not a bar, but a gas station I BET.

Tsk Tsk,person of your stature and well renowned in hair tie using circles and you're using hair ties from the 1 dollar store?
Thought yours would be carbon infused adamantium forged grade A hair ties...what a let down,my whole view of you has crumpled down to the ground.

Some of my hair ties are just ever so lovely like rainbow. I think the last one I used (I think probably on my hair) was from a box in the garage, black, and probably over 12 years old AT BEST. That is the beauty of hair ties, they are plentiful, and they are easily obtainable. Do I need to WAIT even a SECOND to order and locate a vape band? I do not.

You should be impressed at my utilitarianism and planning because ALSO if you think it's OH so easy to amass 27 liters IF NOT MORE into a chest fridge, without your husband really finding out and then BOTTLING it, quadrupling its volume and the whole time being like, "La la la, dude this is no big deal, not it's not costly at ALL." (THANK GOD FOR HEARTLANDS, really.)

Well, that is the IMPRESSIVE feat, not the hair ties. Jeez. Although, I think he cut me a break on the vape stash he knows if I smoke, I die. LOL

    Anna.
