I don't know what you all are taking away from this. Johnson says nothing about his authority to force the FDA to do anything. I fear his letter (demands) were merely political posturing for the anti "Big Gov" regulation crowd in general. Sure it's nice to hear somebody thump the same bible every now and then but if their bark is "toothless" then stop stringing us along.

Thanks Zman for posting this.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I don't think Any Oversight Committee has Authority over the FDA. Or can Force the FDA to do Anything.

That Power Lies with Congress.

Which we know now have become targets. Another case of 'gov't intends to make things safe' and we get just the opposite - more danger.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. And good intentions is really giving the benefit of the doubt.

In the case of the TSA I remember it well. The left insisted on the TSA being unionized government employees (another leftist special interest group) and they were gonna have a sit in until they got their way. Any clear thinking American could see the TSA was going to fail at every level. They did not disappoint. Not only have they failed at moving travelers in a timely manner but they don't even accomplish their primary goal at satisfactory levels.

He has the power to subpoena and make a show of this. (It's all the rage these days). But he won't because we aren't that important.

In fairness, I'm not familiar with the Senator but he sounds like he's enough "far right" that others of his kind might exit somewhere safe should they see him coming down the senate hallway. (Like Cruz).

There's just To Much Money involved with e-Cigarettes to have this all pass quietly into the Night.

Money to be Made. Money in Taxes. Money to be Spent. And Money to be given for Influence (I mean Campaign contributions).

I Don't Think that is the Way this One is going to play out.

But that is JMO.
Perhaps. At the very least, litigation experts may be able to reference this "letter" I suppose.

I fear you don't understand. That's *exactly* why this could die a silent death.

I tend to agree. Not just because of the letter but more of it being another shot across the bow. There will be more. So far we have HR2058, Cole Bishop, 2 filed lawsuits from manufacturers (more to come I'm sure), Sevia, and now a committee demanding clarification and questioning some of very important pieces we don't like.

All in all I'd say there has been some good progress since the regs have been released. Unfortunately the stakes are so damn high that it's making us neurotic and paranoid. LoL

If this Oversight Committee Finds that the FDA has Overstepped it Regulatory Authority, how will congress look if they just sit back and Do Nothing?

It's Easy for Congress to Do Nothing when No One is Watching. Or when it is Only when Consumers are say'n that they are Getting the Shaft. But Not So Easy when their Own, who is Empowered to for this purpose, to find that the FDA has gone Off the Reservation?

This is rabidly becoming a political nightmare. I for one am stepping back, I will continue to follow any directives from CASAA in a effort to be apart of an organized movement to address this issue. I have pretty much amassed enough to take care of my vaping needs beyond my life expectancy, but I will continue adding until such time as I can no longer. Too many of our crowd already believe the gov't has our best interest at heart and whole heartedly support the same bunch that have brought this to us now! We gave them this power either through direct vote or nonchalance. It was all roses and wine when it was someone else they were trying to control or take a right from, now look where we are. As always though what goes around comes around! Time will tell the truth.

It Kinda Cuts Both Ways. But I think on this one, it is going to Lean in our Favor.

Don't get me Wrong. Not Say'n that Everything is all Rainbows and Unicorns. Or that Boxer or Diane F are going to whip out a Mech mod and Blow Clouds on the Senate Floor saying how e-Cigarettes can Save Lives.

But Most Fires start with a Very Small Flame.

So far we have HR2058,

been on life support for some time now:

HR2058.jpg

Cole Bishop: Not putting my money on this one. Still involves 535 politicians and 1 lame duck executive. (I've fallen for this too many times. :)). And there's still a big chance it will be shelved until the next inept, knuckle-dragging executive lumbers his/her way into the oval office.

lawsuits: Our best (and only?) hope I fear.

Zoid... never lead with yer face! :)

Just Not Quite Ready to Lay Down on this one Yet.

Maybe Tomorrow I'll say that it is Hopeless? And that Nothing will get Done thru Congress. But I'm still in the "It Aint Over Till it's Over Crowd."

I haven't given up hope either but I think the Ron Johnson thing is really nothing more than chest thumping.

I Don't Really Care if it is Chest Thumping, or Party Slamming, or Personal Re-Election Stumping.

We've Got so Few in Power who are Even willing to say anything Positive about e-Cigarettes. Let Alone, Do Something. Even if that Something has a Slim Chance in Hell of Working.

I think People have got to Start Facing the Fact that if the Courts are our Only Option, that that Might Not Happen for a Very Long Time.

Because a Protracted Court Battle(s) could last Longer than a Filling Period for a PMTA for ENDS.

And If Something doesn't happen with This Congress, it might not happen in the Next.
