The Trump administration will have a chance to select and make about 4000 new political appointees. Praying that one of them be the head of the FDA. The current one has made some very ignorant statements concerning the vaping industry
Yes. I am fully aware of what happened in Indiana. However, the vice president is not the president. Neither is he the Secretary of DHHS. Hopefully, that position will fall to a capable, common sense individual who will recommend these regulations be scaled backed or eliminated.Do you realize who the Vice President Elect is and the damage he has already done to vaping?
I think it boils down to common sense and how willing the person is to understand the positive impacts of vaping. Yes, Carson's name has been kicked around for quite some time as a DHHS candidate. My sense is he would properly weigh the pros and cons of vaping and make his decision accordingly. The short list I heard had Ben Carson high in the pack for consideration for DHHS. No idea what a pediatric neurosurgeon will think about vaping. Hopefully not think of the children! Oh, wait, maybe not the best nomination.

Totally agree. Our government is colossal and to understand all the laws and regulations whether current or proposed is absolutely impossible. My opinion (and worth what you paid for it) is the incoming administration takes a more skeptical view of regulations (generally speaking) than either the current administration or the the administration had Hillary Clinton won. To that extent I believe this favors those of us who wish to see the Deeming regs scaled back. Certainly no guarantee though. The problem that crops up with many issues, not just vaping, is the sheer volume of information that needs to processed and evaluated. If Carson has independent knowledge regarding vaping (and actually received the post) there would be the possibility for him to raise the issue with the FDA. If not, it will come down to who gets to brief him, and what their stance may be. This is true throughout government. No one person can digest all the available data on policies and positions of an agency as large as DHHS. Or even the FDA for that matter.
I really need to get my sarcasm key fixed.
Who knows, maybe the new administration will be good for vaping. I'm hoping the courts will be in our favor, and maybe that will happen first.
I don't think the VP plays a big role anyway. I think he just oversees (?) the House and Senate or Congress (so confusing).
True. Vice President Truman knew almost nothing about the Manhattan Project when he became President Truman just four months before Hiroshima. Joseph Stalin knew more about US nukes than Harry Truman. President Truman still remains the only human being to order an atomic bomb attack. There really is No clearly defined Role of the VP with the exception of some Procedural Roles (Tie Breaker in the Senate - Succeeds the President if the President Dies, Resigns, is Impeached - etc.)
The Role of the VP Varies from being Heavily Involved in Policy/Legislative Matters/Military Actions and being staged for a future Presidential Race, to little Interaction at all.
Really Depends on the President and what he wants the Role of the VP to be.
Appreciate the heads up.You Really Needed to Include the Next 2 Sentences in my Post for Contextual Accuracy. But I understand what you are Saying.
BTW - 5 will get you 7 that your Post will be Deleted.
I think the more pertinent question is how his " Seventh Day Adventist " faith guides him, and what their position is ( if any ) on smoking and smoking cessation. What happens when there is a clash between his faith and science ?The short list I heard had Ben Carson high in the pack for consideration for DHHS. No idea what a pediatric neurosurgeon will think about vaping. Hopefully not think of the children! Oh, wait, maybe not the best nomination.
Why would a clash matter if his job is to serve the public? This recently happened in Pa., where a woman voted against vaping because her husband died of cancer from it.I think the more pertinent question is how his " Seventh Day Adventist " faith guides him, and what their position is ( if any ) on smoking and smoking cessation. I don't find the following quote very encouraging :
"I personally believe that this theory that Darwin came up with was something that was encouraged by the adversary, and it has become what is scientifically, politically correct.”
In other words he believes our current scientific understanding on biology is in part shaped by the influence of Satan.
Ben Carson: Big Bang A Fairy Tale, Theory Of Evolution Encouraged By The Devil

I just don't understand why personal experiences or beliefs should matter at all.
I agree, that personal beliefs shouldn't matter, but i am concerned whether they will matter with Ben Carson. I think it's an absolute crap shoot what Carson's position on vaping will be, and whether it will be guided by science or other factors. Why would a clash matter if his job is to serve the public?
