I want a Don't Hurt People and Don't Take Their Stuff Party. :D

If I were "King" for a day, I would call a 24 hr recess in Washington.

That night, I would burn every book and piece of paper in all their libraries and offices.

I would hit the Capitol gift shop and grab the bin of the pocket-format constitutions.

...

The next morning I'd call a full session, and inform them of what I'd done last night.

Then I'd pass around the bin of pocket constitutions and make sure every member of congress and the SCOTUS took one.

Then I'd tell them to start over, drop the mike, and go get a chili dog.

I don't know what to think anymore. When I was 18 the Republican party was my parents party. They were affluent, against "socialized medicine" and wanted the poor hidden away somewhere. The Democratic party made more sense to me. Their focus seemed to be a government that addressed the needs of all citizens, not just the monied elite. As I grew older, my opinion on certain subjects changed and I found myself looking at candidates who supported my beliefs, no matter their party.

I never envisioned that addressing the needs of all citizens would lead to a nanny government, nor that Donald Trump would be the alternative.

    ETA:

I am strongly Pro-Choice, anti-gun control, pro-vaping, anti-nanny and terrified of a government that no longer respects the separation of church and state. What party am I?
    The best fit is Libertarian.

I'm sort of in the same boat as Ocelot. My views on many things are strongly liberal. Pro-choice, pro gay marriage/rights, I do think that people on hard times sometimes need help getting back on their feet and not everyone can pull themselves up by the bootstraps, I think some sort of health insurance controls are needed as a medical costs are so high in the US, I don't care at all what bathrooms people use, etc... Everyone wants to control something though. The Republicans want to control my uterus and who I can marry (okay for me cause I'm straight, but I'm not the only person I'm concerned with). The democrats want to regulate what I can put into my body (except for the m-stuff, I guess, lol). Everyone has ulterior financial motives. I don't really feel I fit with the libertarians because I do think capitalism needs some checks. I guess I sort of look at effective government as finding a balance between the competing human tendencies of greed and laziness. Pure capitalism, imo, favors greed and those who already have money/power and want more, and are often willing to do unethical things to get it. Pure socialism would (again imo) foster laziness in those who could get away with it. Not sure where I fit in, but I do think that the US has become a Corporatocracy, and I don't think the problem is limited to one party. JMO.

ETA: Oh and separation of religion and government is huge for me!

Feel free to use any of it that expresses what you want to say. There is also a shorter version:

I'm a 57-year-old constituent who has voted in every election since I was 18. I am also an ex-smoker. After 40 years of smoking, I have been tobacco free for almost 4 years by using e-cigarettes. I will vote for candidates who support tobacco harm reduction, not for those who would block a path to health for millions of people in a misguided attempt to "Protect the Children."
I'm skeptical of any candidate who uses identity politics.

Even when I took my first Vape in August 2013 ... I wondered how BG had not Hijacked Vaping already.

It didn't take me long to start Vaping with gear that I could make last forever ... plus, everything I use is over 2 years old.

I saw this coming from day one ... however, I still think we win this, but not without a serious setback with these FDA regs first.

Yes, we could see the ole 2 steps forward, one step back. They did this with tobacco (same with firearms) when they allowed us to RYO at a cheap price. They do like to appear even handed.

I am with you so I guess I am an Ocelotical, as well. Maybe our age group is part of it all, we were living in the era of major events of Vietnam, civil rights etc. Dems made sense in those days. I think they were 'for the people', now not so much.

You and I are members of the Rand Paul party. Until now I thought I was the only member.

I don't know a lot about him but he is on the oversight committee that is addressing the regs with the FDA.

Has anyone sent anything to him or the other members. I know some sent to the chairman, is there a need to send info to the individual members?

I'm gonna let the Senator know of my appreciation for his efforts.

    Done.
Dear Sen. Johnson and honorable committee members:

I just wanted to express my deep and sincere appreciation to you for your request for information from the FDA on its deeming regulation as it affects e-cigarettes. Your letter reflected a great deal of insight into the devastating effects this regulation will surely have.

I smoked cigarettes for 44 years and tried just about every cessation method in the book (some of them multiple times) including Wellbutrin, hypnotism, patches, gum, cold turkey and motivational books. Nothing worked. Then about 4 years ago I discovered e-cigarettes. I haven't smoked a single cigarette since then and I don't miss them one bit. I no longer have a chronic cough, my breathing and stamina are greatly improved and I feel better than I have in years. My doctor says my lung capacity is that of a never-smoker.

I and all the vapers I know use advanced, third generation, devices. The technological advances have been amazing. I vape such flavors as banana nut muffin and breakfast blend (a coffee flavor). I purchase these flavors at a local shop where they're made under highly sanitary and controlled conditions. I know because I've toured their facility. As you know, the deeming regulation will wipe out the thousands of businesses like this, costing all of the employees their jobs and depriving the owners of their investment and means of livelihood.

Most of the innovative manufacturers in this country will be forced out of business, not to mention many innovators abroad. The entire market will be left to an oligopoly consisting of a few tobacco companies and maybe one or two of the largest international companies. The only approved products are likely to be cig-alikes--the cheap, ineffective devices sold in convenience stores. (I know they're ineffective because I tried them, along with many vapers I know.) For all practical purposes the FDA has said the most effective and advance products will be gone, and has already indicated that only "closed" systems are likely to gain approval--i.e., cig-alikes.

I have carefully stored all the nicotine I'm likely to ever need in my freezer and I have purchased a number of devices that will easily last me for the rest of my life. So I'm not worried for myself. Rather, I'm worried about the tens of millions of current and future cigarette smokers in this country who will be denied the opportunity to quit smoking the way I did. Many, many lives are at stake. It is on their behalf that I extend my heartfelt thanks to you for tackling this issue head on. If there is anything I can do to assist, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Disclosure: I am an ordinary citizen, a semi-retired lawyer. I have no stake or financial interest in any seller or manufacturer of e-cigarettes and I have never represented any of them. I am not a lobbyist and I have no financial ties to any tobacco or pharmaceutical company.

    Respectfully yours,

Apolagies in advance if this has already been posted and I hope it doesn't cause @KODIAK (TM) to hit the hard stuff again. /lol /joke

Gerie Voss, supervisory regulatory counselor at the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. Listen to her tell a bold face lie during a radio interview. The host asked her how she could defend these regulations in the face of uniform statements by vaping companies that “this is so onerous that this is going to drive them out of the business.” Her answer was “It’s important to remember that we’re talking about products that kill people.” Start at 4:45 Minutes here. Seriously! She has to lie to justify the Final Deeming! Ecigs don’t kill. Cigarettes with tobacco kill. Thanks to Dr. Siegel and his great Blog post.

Welcome to the Hall of Shame!

Mike, I don't think you read that correctly, the Johnson in the title is Senator Johnson from Wisconsin, who is demanding answers from the FDA to be provided to the committee on national security and governmental overview(can't remember official name but that's close).
Ooops. Johnson Creek is in Scony' (WI) though.
    3. The FDA doesn't want and neither does BT, BP, or BM, for vaping to survive in any real form and likely will slowly withdraw their own vaping products over time if this is successful (the Deeming regs).
I agree with this assessment. BT will have a lucrative tax write off on their e-cig
products. Expect BP to come out with vaping related cessation products in the future.
It will be just a coincendence they will appear awfully simular to a
ego T pass through or Vision spinner. (The blue one, please be the blue one.)

I will tell you that you are sadly misinformed and BT did indeed deliberately add addictive components to tobacco. A Man I knew, now dead from lung cancer (smoking), who worked for RJReynolds for 40 years informed me that it did indeed happen that way.

I have said for years that BT took a lesson from the drug dealers in that they found the way to target the pleasure centers in the brain. The younger generation of course would not know that because they probably started smoking after that change was made.. Before they did that, I always knew I could quit smoking. After that, I knew then I could never quit, no matter what.
    But with ecigs, I did......yay..lol
?? Was I not born in 1955? Did I not start smoking in the early seventies when smoking
was allowed every where and literally no one cared? Did I not live through the pre-ban days when there was science on both sides of the argument? Did I not observe the dehumanization of smokers
and BT with bogus science used for the justification in never ending and escalating sin taxes?
As the result of my smoking was I not kicked to the curb outside as to not cause harm to
my fellow citizen? When I switched to vaping after 38 years of smoking am I not witnessing
the exact same thing happening again? Or did I imagine all of that?
Where is the study saying if BT does that it will make cigarettes more addictive?
How come all the studies are after the fact but usually before another tax increase
    or pending legislation?
    :2c:

I just wrote to Duncan Hunter and Tom Cole, thanking them for fighting for us and also proposed a few ideas on how to fight against this regulation.

On a side note, I'm a lifelong Californian and just realized that when Boxer and Feinstein (2 of the biggest opponents against us), California's 2 senators began their reign, I was a 10 year old kid watching X-Men on tv and playing Super Nintendo, now I'm a thirty-something man quickly approaching middle age with a wife and 2 kids. What does this mean? It means we should have term limits for reps and senators. No one should be in power for that long.

I found this via the CASAA website from blog by C Phillips and it made me smile :w00t:

"The only surprise I have seen is that FDA declared they would not attempt to ban interesting flavors immediately, as they had signaled they would, and are instead waiting for the blanket ban in 2018 (this is not binding, so they could still do it, but it is easy to see why an agency that barely has the organizational capacity to find its own :censored: in the dark would choose the easy path)."

I am strongly Pro-Choice, anti-gun control, pro-vaping, anti-nanny and terrified of a government that no longer respects the separation of church and state. What party am I?

    As am I.

    Signed Confused.

As both sides get farther and farther away from the middle, we are find more of us floundering in the chasm that it is creating. At some point, our numbers will be so great that will render either side ineffective.

I feel this time in history is the last gasp of the two party system. The overreach is becoming so great, there is little left to grab.

Vote wisely, let them know we are watching, let them know we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore (to borrow a line from a movie)

Regarding the voting/party issue/vape voting, you might want to read this:

“I vape and I am eligible to vote, but seldom do it” is probably a better slogan

    This is from that blog:
"But vaper advocates who are serious about this should avoid getting persuaded that vape-voting in the 2016 election makes any difference for their cause. Winning-the-lottery dreams are fun, but if this talk about elections is really about affecting change, attention should shift to asking what can be done in the 2017 elections"

Term limits is something that I don't see talked about anymore. But it absolutely should be. It is ridiculous how much power some in the Congress have. THEY are the Kings.
