From the article (and seen elsewhere).... "In his latest letter, Senator Johnson seems convinced that under Tom Price, the current regulation will be repealed."

And because someone has not signed 2058 does not mean they are against 2058 (or cole bishop).
Oh, i see. I did see that, but that was the characterization of the authors article. The letter to the FDA was written before Price was nominated, so Johnson could not have been referring to Price specifically. Johnson wrote a very similar letter to the EPA btw.

I really hope you are right, but let's just say i'm not as optimistic as you are. Price came in for one reason and one reason only, to handle the repealing of Obamacare. I don't think we are on his radar much, and the very little i have heard him talk or write about vaping ( a letter in response to a constituent urging him to support HR2058 and Cole/Bishop ) was not encouraging.

I read that letter to his constituent and didn't take anything positive or negative from it. And I'm optimistic but by no means think this is a done deal. Had the election gone the other way I would have driven a stake through the heart of vaping right there on the spot. But I feel a whole lot better about our chances with Price. Albeit not a cinch by any stretch of the imagination. There is just a general dislike for regulations with the incoming administration so I think it will at least get a good look.

Wouldn't BT and BP be the chief beneficiaries of the Deeming regs?
That seems to be the conventional wisdom here, but i don't think big tobacco is convinced of that !

Remember, it was Altria lobbyists who were the architects of HR2058. Maybe their thinking is that we don't need the deeming regulations to dominate the cigalike market. We do that already ! They entered that market quite late ( 2012/2013 ) and within three years they absolutely dominated the market, whether through acquisitions or otherwise. Perhaps they think it's better to have smaller percentage of a very large market than have a dominating position in a smaller market.

Big tobacco and big pharma have very different positions on this issue. BP ( and the FDA by extension ) believe that smoking is a disease and the end goal of any treatment ( usually a 12 week program ) should be complete abstinence. BT on the other hand are much more receptive ( and supportive ) of the idea of Tobacco Harm Reduction. They see their long term survival dependent on this. Vaping is just one form of THR they are spending money on. They are working on other technologies too.

The fact that he didn't support HR2058 and Cole/Bishop, was the negative i got from it ;)

It's all conjecture at this point anyway. I haven't heard anything from anyone in Trumps administration re vaping, but the general anti regulation talk is probably a positive.

He has been one of the most vocal critics of Obamacare in congress and he is perhaps the only one that had a comprehensive plan to replace it, going back to 2015 or earlier even.

You might be right.

But there are Plenty of Vocal Critics of Obamacare. Having a Plan is a Good Thing. As long as the Plan is the One the President and Senior Leadership of the House/Senate want. And, of course, as long as it Is Passable.

Yay! Classy closed that other thread.
I'll keep my colon out of this one.

That said... over the past few days I feel invigorated by the stance of the new administration regarding Federal regulations in general - almost gleeful. I only hope vaping doesn't fall through the cracks.

Soooo, been wondering when we might get some news on that lawsuit?

When I get out of this temporary housing and into our new home, I think I'll fire off a new batch of e-mails to my representatives asking about getting some help overturning these deeming regs.
