The stimulus is smart.Just :2c:

HOW TO GET OUT OF THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

It is a slow day in the small Saskatchewan town of Pumphandle, and streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybobdy is living on credit.
A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.
As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, the Co-op.
The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.
The ...... rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.
The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything.
However the whole town is now out of debt and looks to the future with optimism.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a Stimulus package works.

BTW - If States and the Feds knew then what they Know Now, I Don't Think they would have have done such Heavy Handed Stay-at-Home order(s).

But they Didn't. No One Did.

They Banked on being Out-of-the-Woods by now. And that if we could just Last it Out, we could ramp things back up efficiently.

Was obvious from the start this would run at least through June and likely months longer. However, the public could not stomach, so they fed us in small doses. With no effective treatments or vaccine, and potential deaths of 5% of US population, there really is no other option. This is a rich nation with the wealth to both feed its population and recover its economy in time. And yes, this is the equivalent of WWII; so everybody needs to buckle down -- and start printing at the Treasury. Only remaining questions: 1) does Congress have the sense to do what we need, and 2) how long until effective treatment or vaccine. Stay safe.

I have the stomach for it and perhaps that is a moral problem. I suggested the "at risk" be quarantined until herd immunity was reached long ago. Flattening the curve has not SAVED anyone necessarily and if anything it has put MANY (you would be shocked) healthcare workers out of work and those in need of other, urgent treatment out of work.

Just because it is a "Corona" does not make it an emergency, and where in the US a fair number refuse to even VACINNATE their children and it's just ALLOWED? I'm sorry that disgusts me. More children have died from lack of flu vaccination than probably of COVID. COVID is rather kind to children they are just really good at germ spreading. However that does NOT mean they are sent home so their parents (if even allowed to) can work.

I find things pretty ominous. I talked to my kid and he is making more on unemployment than he did working. I told him I thought that sucked, and NO one should make more for doing nothing than working. He did not like it. His time with my mom and CO have resulted in a child I cannot even talk to about many things and we used to talk about most things in a reasonable fashion.

In despair I called my mom but she was worse. She was like, "Oh it's great for him it's a sign we are all underpaid ANYWAY," I was like "WOMAN are you HIGH my son makes a fair amount for a kid with a GED and frankly he COULD have gotten a raise by not being uppity about NOT WANTING to be a manager even though every job he has been at has begged him to because he is competent." Paying someone MORE not to work than working is INSANE. Look at what happened to the Australian dole or even England for that matter.

She would not talk about COVID either and said NY was highest at like 20% with uh antibodies and I was like, "Lady, I too used to think the CDC was legit. But then to prepare for my new job I started reading fact sheets. They were BUNK. She was like "now you are just talking about COVID without talking about it." I was like no Mom vaping, pharmaceuticals if they had their way with me you and every other family member would be dead from my lethal to all Chantix exposure or I would ACUTALLY be at risk for like, COVID with my oxygen tank."

I was just like "If you are so SURE of your monolithic government assurances what THREATENS you, investigating others? If you are right you will be proven right but I certainly do find it fascinating that smaller private studies are finding varying results, honestly,"

I also told her one of the happiest days of my life was when I made the independent and novel decision to stop listening to NPR while driving just because it was habit. I told her I would tolerate the words "COVID PANDEMIC" from no one on earth any more until it was the last person in the world right after the person standing in front of me said "Covid pandemic" then died,

Pandemic comes from the Greek root word pandemos, meaning "All people." Until ALL people are affected it is scare tactics, rhetoric,

I don't enjoy word games and using this opportunity to ruin the economy in this country for decades tor come. THERE ARE JILLIONS of deaths and avoidable ones, too, in this nation.

Our politicians will accept the blame for none of it, including clean needle programs, vaping hell NONE of it. They want MORE smokers to be born and die so it lines their pockets.

So why we should not have reversed it and quarantined the at risk I have no idea but I'm afraid the word has it's roots from German, Marx and Engels's word Kommunismus.

It's not a word I trust or care for even slightly even remotely. I would probably volunteer for freaking Covid death if it saved my kid from that world view and orientatation.

But again, how do you prepare for like, a New World where everyone owns and equal share and this is in fact not achievable? Well, you got to get people willing to self isolate in their homes using carrots and scare tactics,

This has been perhaps, the dumbest approach to a public health "crisis" I have ever seen,

The apologists, you can't even talk to them. They cut you off .They have to because if you introduce other variables, well things just get TOO complicated.

Last I heard we were uh, building a great wall. Like China. I guess empires rise and fall. It wasn't very smart but AT least people were WORKING. Jesus.

I also explained to my mom most of my unhappiest times were when I was NOT working frankly I mean.... It just doesn't feel very good.

My dad, bless his heart was very good about that. He was a millionaire and I was working two jobs in HS. Don't get me wrong it was fun and there was an economic boom but HOLY JESUS I wish my kid could have had that experience.

It's times like these that I'm thankful that I have access to a number of news sources and live press conferences. We're fortunate that in this wave of bizarre conspiracy theories there remain a large number of dedicated journalists searching out the facts. Avoiding those who mask their opinions as facts isn't easy.

When it comes to vaping, it certainly appears that BT and BP have been working in a conspiratorial way to limit and control vaping in concert with many in American government and academia enabling that process. I suspect a number of well-meaning political figures have made their decisions based on others' opinions, not the facts. When it comes to 9/11 and Covid-19, the facts indicate these were real crises, not government conspiracies.

It's discouraging to see how many of us follow and listen to only those who reinforce our inherently biased world view. I've done it and it's easier and reassuring but dumbs us down as a society, leaving us open to escalating divisiveness and manipulation. A number of conspiracy theorists have profited greatly from it while fragmenting people and ignoring facts. I'll stick with the idea that most people in all walks of life are well-intentioned and have far more in common than differences. If I want to look into alternative realities I watch Ancient Aliens.

If I want to look into alternative realities I watch Ancient Aliens.

For alternative realities it's best if you watch this:

The Man in the High Castle (TV Series 2015–2019) - IMDb

But back on topic, yeah i agree with everything you said but the main i problem is see the few independent news sources that people actually have.

Take television for example, certain channels just use them as platforms for politicians to get thru their voters/future voters.
There is no ''truth'',they just spew verbal nonsense and make it their ''truth''...

Happens all over the world, here in Spain for example, the people that run TV3
TV3 (Catalonia) - Wikipedia only use it as a platform for the politic parties that want the independence from Spain.

Same goes for national channels, they all lean towards one side or the other,PP (Partido Popular) or PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español)...they do not speak the truth, they just work like puppeteers and move the strings of the media to brainwash people.

This right here is not only an occurrence in Spain, this happens all over and the world, problem is not everyone sees it.
Some refuse to do so,or they just lack the sufficient intellect and experience to form their own opinions on current issues.

Well just wanted to add my 2 cents to the conversation.

p.s. about the ''sufficient intellect'' comment i made, just to make it clear im not calling anyone stupid, just saying that if you are going to comment on an issue, vote and stand up for certain causes you NEED to be informed.
You just cant get into the heat of battle without actually knowing what you're fighting for or if the cause is actually worth the fight...because maybe, you know...you're wrong because you dont have all the facts.

Seems like there is something very satisfying to humans about belonging to the one group that has figured out the truth. The smaller and more exclusive the group is the more intense the satisfaction is.

And before the squonkers get mad at me I'm not just talking about you :D

Hoo boy. Look. I'm not saying I am in the right, I am just saying all evidence should be examined.

I also do not understand why the idea of isolating 5% and ADDING jobs to care for those people at home is less smart than what is happening now. I am telling you perhaps not in all cities, but in many I have been in recently the "quarantine measures" are a joke. People are not following them.

Go to any grocery store and attempt to maintain a six foot distance the whole time. You might be able to do it if you barricaded your cart at the entrance to the bathroom and stayed in there the whole time, but it makes it rather hard to shop.

I TOO would love to believe in purity of motives and to think all people were good. I too would love to turn on NPR and believe it was speaking truth.

The Ancient Aliens cop out is kind of annoying frankly. Examining all sources and information should be mandatory. I was taught to do it early and often starting in CIVICS in HS where the teacher showed us H Bush's identical AD in which only the words "no new taxes" we removed because he had. SW school taught me those values too. I would not cite anything as possibly factual without verifying it in about 7 independent places.

If 5% of the American people are going to die, they are going to die regardless I promise you that, UNLESS (as some of the smart ones on ECF are ALREADY doing) they are quarantining THEMSELVES, having groceries delivered the whole bit.

IF those truly at risk ALREADY understand they are at risk due to half measures and unenforced security proceures, why are we doing it at all?

If the CDC is so well meaning why is so much of their info inaccurate? Here's one. It's not terrible except for one thing. "Follow up with your doctor within (blank empty space) days????"

https://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/pdf/aha-patient-opioid-factsheet-a.pdf

Whut? Have there not like been studies on how long it can take to become addicted to opiates? Can I just write 365 days in the blank space and it will be fine?

Oh but LOOK? The CDC actually FUNDED a study on how much time passes from exposure to addiction (keeping in mind every brain is different and more and less vulnerable) and it is reported here and I acknowledge each brain is more or less vulnerable to opiates but so does the study I think.)

CDC study finds opioid dependency begins in the first few days of initial use

So like, should not the CDC trust its own research and at LEAST write 5 days in there?

No only that, IDK the whole thing just isn't great it looks like its target audience is like, Sesame street. Here is a fact sheet that actually makes some sense.
And I am telling you I did not cherry pick this issue other than to consider another recent "health epidemic," one that is highly argued.

So many of them are like this! I could have chosen a vaping one, but that's just preaching to the choir honestly. I mean..... How come the CDC sucks so bad in some regards but is to be universally trusted in others? I'm very confused.

Dang my favorite fact sheet on youth vaping would not post. It was the one that said beware of "suspicious USB drives."

But I swear to god why on EARTH should I be impressed with this agency and its "competence." I am NOT saying the CDC doesn't have a role, potentially it should. IDK. I think anyone indicating other research should just be IGNORED (including from other countries) is the one wearing the tinfoil hat, personally.

Yes people make mistakes, studies can appear useful and found not to be later. Look at every menopausal who took estrogen to reduce menopause symptoms. Early studies said it reduced the risk of heart attacks until a lengthy study found it INCREASED them, the cofounding factor being women taking estrogen for menopause took better care of their health in general.

If you don't think politics and rhetoric are playing a role in this well look I'm sorry. 5% of a population is NOT a pandemic, I'm sorry. The percentage isn't high enough. It just isn't, although I just now read a BUNCH of information on pandemic vs. epidemic and when it came to actual NUMBERS involved they were pretty dang shady which does not surprise me even slightly. as they were published after COVID.

It COULD I guess be considered a pandemic NOW in the US as it is affecting everyone. We could have isolated and taken care of the vulnerable, creating MORE jobs and letting us go about our business. I am SURE that idea HAD to have been discussed at some point by epidemiologists but I think I have done ENOUGH research for this post.

And yes those of you who disagree are welcome to tell me how lovely the US government is, how kind and trustworthy etc. Start from colonization times and tell me how well the people who "owned" this country were treated, although "ownership" wasn't exactly even a concept for them. Tell me ALL about how and why I should trust my government because I would actually LOVE to do so,

This is my last post on the matter other than to say, if the CDC is like this I don't see trusting the FDA either.

Winner, I have wondered the same but could not get the phrasing right. One day the CDC is a worthless group of politically motivated people without integrity. The next day, they are infallible and can dictate our behavior based on computer models which they are continually revising due to inaccuracy.
Great job.

The CDC isn't the FDA. The CDC kind of bungled the initial e-cig vit-e-a thing, but came around. They're more science based, but they had question-marks due to people lying to them and the possibility that "honey-cut" or whatever was used in nic-only-vapes.

It's the FDA I'm having major problems with regarding vaping.

The CDC isn't the FDA.

Who knew?

The CDC was hyping the epidemic of teen vapers dying and we all were outraged. They corrected themselves but not until the damage was done and the media engaged in their usual hysteria. The CDC is responsible for shutting down the economy based on GIGO computer models (which are continuously revised for wild inaccuracies) and the nation cowers in fear.

"Kind of bungled?" Over three months of hiding info, and making recommendations on what they knew 99% for certain was false? Without any qualifying statements? Allowing companies to be destroyed, and driving people back to smoking???

You're being quite generous.

Odd idea, we could pay special attention to the elderly and others with chronic disease and let the rest country function. Nope, we shut the place down and still we are losing the elderly who have underlying problems. Another grand success of governmental intervention.

^^ That protects the most-vulnerable. True. It was more about what the level of impact on our resources (hospitals, med supplies, people) would be without "flattening". Such "flattening" requires ALL people to isolate until we can ramp up and deal with this.

So it's flattening and ramp-up. Most were shut down for a month. We'll live.

I'm more ticked about HOW it was bungled, than if it was shut down. The UK "just" paid 80% of salaries. Problem insta-solved, in that sense. They probably had business loans too. IDK.

CDC = a bunch of knee-jerk reactionaries.

CDC: E-cigarettes are are causing a lung illness and killing people.

Months later

CDC: It appears it's not ecigarettes but illegal, tainted, black-market THC cartridges.

======================

CDC - Don't wear a mask, they are useless and wearing them will could to public hysteria.

Weeks later

CDC: You should wear a mask.

Not trying to fight here. And maybe you didn't mean it that way, but this sounds pretty dismissive of a lot of people's despair. So it makes me curious: What do you do for a living, and how has it affected your work?
