So rather than twisting them, you are wrapping them in tandem?

Correct... But IMO i feel more comfortable twisting them real tight with a drill. That way you have consistent contact between the 2 wires. If wrapped in tandem, they could technically come apart and create a very small gap. While twisting them tight you know you have consistent contact all the way. But once again, just my 2 cents

Cool vid... Do you mind taking a close up shot of your quasar with the cotton in the coil. Id just like to compare the amount of cotton you use to what I use for a single parallel coil

And I'm assuming the dual coil build was the one on the left? Cuz the one on the right chucked out vapour a lot faster and smoother like you had stated

I could use some advice for my newish Heron. (I've been traveling and decided to leave it home where it'd be safe and sound, so haven't used it a great deal since its arrival.)

I've got a simple loop wick, 30g Kanthal, 5 wraps, around 1.7 ohms.
It's running hot and spitting: I don't feel the spit when I vape, but my tongue does afterwards. I lowered the coil a bit to see if that helps, but it really didn't. Using my Sophia instead right now.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You have over wicking issues due to improper density of the filler or you have an old bell. Check please the interior, in the rare case we gave you a Heron with the previous bell. The thread was off topic for 3 pages and I missed your post, sorry.

Hey guys, for ongoing off topic discussions, please use the main thread from now on.

No apologies necessary; I just figured you were busy with the store reopening etc.
From what I understand of the new/old bells, I think I have the new; the channel within the bell appears a smooth, uniform bore. The filler I used was what you good folks sent with the Heron, and I used a piece which is 20mm x 60mm. It isn't perfectly uniformly fitted, being my virgin attempt. The other thing I just noticed, as I was taking a photo or two for your analysis, is that the tails of my wick are a bit long and sitting on the ridge of the ring (with the o-rings), in other words higher than the deck; perhaps too long?? Anyway, here are a couple of pics with the bell channel and the filler. (I tried to send with photobucket so as to provide larger images, but despite the fact that they are small email resolutions, ECF's attach functions says they're too large from photobucket, but the same image is not too large from my computer. Screwy.)
Please let me know what you think.View attachment 332990View attachment 332992

That looks like the updated bell! Filler doesn't look too bad either. I do use a screwdriver to help evenly distribute the fluff if necessary. I also use the fluff cut to a similar length but I cut mine to 17mm x 65mm and find that it works well for my 50/50 liquid.

I'm using a ~1.4 ohm coil and it doesn't heat the atty up very quickly unless I'm chain vaping for awhile so you might want to look there.

Are you taking hard pulls? You might want to either take an easier pull or open up the AFC a bit. If the coil spits and you're sucking hard then there's a good chance the you'll suck it in your mouth.

Here are pics of my setup if it helps any...

Thanks. I also posted over at the main Paps thread, and folks suggested I rebuild my coil, which I'll do.
I've fooled with the AFC, so I'm doubting that's the issue. Our fluff setup seems similar, so I'm thinking that mine is a bit less uniform than yours, but not that far apart. thanks for your pics; once I get the basics mastered I'm gonna have to try cotton.

You have to ensure fluff is touching the inner walls, otherwise liquid will flood the chamber. You can take a look at the tips and tricks thread, there are a ton of tutorials for different builds.

Thanks. Over the next couple of days, I'll take it all apart, wash out the fluff, repack it and rebuild the coil and wick. I'll report back.

This question is probably answered somewhere in this thread, but hey, I don't have all day to look for it. :D My understanding is that there will be a 510 option for the Heron. I'm assuming that there will be a 510 kit of some kind that can be purchased and used for those that already have a Heron (i.e., remove the g-pin, insert 510 connector part, add a ring to the hybrid threads). Is that correct, or will it be a separate 510 Heron that's not compatible with the hybrid version?

Just curious, as I have a couple of Herons but want to sometimes use one on a 26650 mod that I have.

The 510 for the Heron will just screw on/in to the bottom much like a Spheroid base , so all owners past and future will be able to purchase it.

No, my friend. It's a different connection, and it's not necessary for a proper function, it adds 6 mm length as well.

Okay, so it is indeed answered in this forum as suspected. So it looks like it will be just an add-on. That's good news. Just pulling this info forward for anyone else who might be wondering.
