Man you guys are nuts! I don't give a crap what any of them think. I vape proudly. I've already had a load of coworkers ask me about it. I gladly tell them. Dude I know some guy on a forum isn't gonna change how you feel, but you got no reason to be embarrassed vaping. On my smoke breaks I am the only guy out of 30 people vaping. I don't care, I just enjoy. Keep vaping, I know I will

Smoking is banned in public in Ohio. Doesn't stop me. I vape in stores, the mall, coffee shops, at work, etc., but stealth vape in restaurants. Don't want to cause a scene there for some reason. Smoke and eating are just taboo, so I don't want to upset some diehard anti-smoker who won't want to believe I'm not spoiling their dinner.

Here in San Antonio, smoking has been banned in restaurants and most public indoor areas. But the question is, what does your statute or ordinance say specifically. Vaping is NOT smoking, unless the statutory language includes PV's in the definition.

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one that realizes that vaping and smoking aren't even in the same category. And to the ones who think it impolite, no offense intended, but I'm one of the most courteous and well-spoken individuals you'll ever meet. I think it's actually quite polite of me not to smoke at all, but instead vape. That being said, I haven't been in or near a hospital or courtroom, but I can't imagine doing it inside, simply because I wouldn't even be disrespectful and chew gum in either a sterile environment, or one where I could be found in contempt. Department stores, malls, restaurants, and yes, even the DMV, I view in a totally different light.

The ecig will be just another witch hunt. I, for one, am not going to let anybody brainwash me into thinking that there are places I should and shouldn't do it, for ignorance's sake. (That's not a dig, it's just how I look at it.) Everybody's different, like I said, and some people are just shy, but I won't not do it, based solely on the fact that it might be considered impolite. That just seems silly to me, because it just isn't a cigarette. It might as well be a stick of gum.

Edited: Oh, and to redrobin...I've been asked twice about it, once by a bar owner, and once by a waitress. I just explained what it was, asked if I they would prefer I quit, and ended up answering lots of questions arising from curiosity. Never been asked to stop, and I live in Atlanta, where smoking is banned indoors except in bars/establishments that do not allow minors, even though I made it very clear I would gladly cease if asked by the proprietors to do so.

That seems to me to be an excellent way to think about it. Yes, there are some places -- business meetings, courtrooms, etc. -- where chewing gum is inappropriate, and it would be inappropriate to vape as well. But for the most part, neither should be a problem outside of these rare, extremely formal circumstances.

I work at a gas station (irony alert) selling cigs out of a drive thru window, and I vape all the heck over that place. Even when I man a pump ( I live in Oregon no self service), or pump propane I vape. The weird looks and OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!! is hours of entertainment. I think that shaking the sheep up and answering a few question helps to raise public awareness to the plight of Vapers everywhere. As for your uncomfortableness with vaping in public don't worry it will pass with time and repitition. Peace and Vape On!!!

I know what ya mean, but that feeling went away fairly quickly for me. Most people are actually really interested. I started vaping about 10 days ago, and I've already sold 7 JOYE 510 kits. They honestly sell themselves. All I do is answer questions when they see me vaping, and BOOM, "Where can I get one?" I don't really make any money on them to speak of, but it's nice to show folks the light.

Lmao GreyFoxofTymberhaven - yes definitely using the e-cigs in public places is fun especially when you can scare the crap out of people. Thats a good use of the e-cig haha.

At college I am always getting looks and although I should be used to it now i'm still self concious and uncomfortable about it. It's nothing to be ashamed of just something that you have to try and get the mood of F the world haha.

Just for the record, I work in healthcare, and specifically in Hospice care. I typically sit 13 hours with a patient, and I do vape around Oxygen units. There is a better chance of a cell phone starting a blaze than an ecig. I am in home and long term care settings, and vape. I always explain fully, and people are typically very interested in learning the facts, and to be honest, almost everyone knows a smoker that they would like to see quit, so the non smokers are usually just as interested as the smokers to learn. The fact that it is coming from someone in my position tends to get people to listen more intently, without prejudgments. I usually direct them to youtube, specifically Doctor Vapor's videos because of how clearly and concisely the points are put across. 4 co workers including the boss converted, with many patient's families looking into the same. I'm glad I ran into the ad that I did on isohunt, because it helped me break the 15 year habit that patches, gum, Chantix, Welbutrin and subtle threats from employers couldn't touch.

Yesterday I spent my lunch hour reading thru the requests to sign petitions and answering the questionaires, and I felt a real need to protect my right to QUIT SMOKING CIGARETTES and use what I feel is working and is the step right for me. Not what the drug companies and BIG MONEYsays I should use. I really understand your feelings of unease in crowds, or having to explain what your doing, but as others have said it will pass. educate yourself more, visit the sites read about how you are saving your life, and then I'm sure you will change your thots on explaining what your doing, hey tell them when they ask, "what are you doing"? you respond, " I'm saving my life!!!!!! That may make them walk on..................

Greyfox - You do realize that electricity, even static electricity, can set off gas fumes. Is you're right to vape everywhere worth taking that chance with your life and others?

I found myself in "stealth vape" mode too, but not anymore. I discovered that the more I educate people the better it is for me. At work my boss said don't do it at your desk when I first approached him. After really talking about it outside at lunch one day, he has changed his mind. As an asthmatic, he can relate inhaling vapor to when he uses his asthma nebulizer. I am not blatant about using my pv at my desk but if my boss sees me now, it's ok.

Vaping is getting more exposure every day....I just saw "After the Catch" which is the end of season episode for "Deadliest Catch" and was surprised to see Capt. Phil's two sons puffing on e-cigs in the bar in New Orleans that they film this episode every year.

Was good to see then puffing e-cigs, as chain smoking no doubt contributed to Capt. Phil's passing away at a young age (stroke)

Who cares what people think about vaping in public, whats important is you will live longer.

Although smoking is a filthy habit I can't help but still feel offended when other people take a superior attitude with you, or I suppose to be more accurate, when they take that attitude with me. Some people who witness anything that remotely resembles tobacco smoking seem to be unable to disassociate themselves from their preconcieved attitudes. Shame on them! More power to the progressive thinkers.

I've found that the times I can take a deep breath and speak to those that are giving me attitude, that it's usually just lack of knowledge speaking. They have no clue that it's not tobacco, just that it looks like smoke. Some of them even have a change of heart, but don't expect it!
