:) when I visit forums, I try to leave my emotions at the door, as too often I have mis interpreted a posters intended meaning and later realized that I was the one who missed the point. Not always successful at it, but I do try to keep it in mind when posting.

I don't tend toward the emotional, but I make mistakes in understanding when I skim, which I end up doing some of. Although my biggest problem with writing is I cannot accurately convey my tone of voice I think. I have been working on that for some years, but often my tone is somehow misunderstood. I am either too abrupt, or not abrupt enough, or too talkative, or not talkative enough, or use 50 dollar words, or don't use English the way people best understand it.

In general, I find it more difficult to convey myself accurately, both as to my RL personality, AND to my intended meaning.

I generally don't post in threads where that would be common. You, however......
What are you trying to say? Do I need one of these in my threads?

If the red X is going to be abused, perhaps there should be a drop down menu of reasons to explain why you disagree. There could still be an option to enter your own reason too.

That would cut down on how much trouble it is for mods to handle any abuse. They wouldn't have to moderate when someone chooses from the drop down menu (unless someone manages to abuse even that, which can be reported to moderators). Then the mods would only have to review the free form entries plus any that get reported.

The only thing I like about the red X is that sometimes I just don't have the energy to actually type in a response. Whether it's to disagree, like, or express love, sympathy or whatever. I often just don't have the energy to think straight enough to type up a coherent post. I tend to be that way A LOT.

Given that here you can even see who's disagreeing with you (unlike that other forum, which was not a vaping one anyway) it's far less open to abuse, and can be a way of commenting along a thread that's not confrontational and without a drama of 3 pages of posts devoted to "I'm right! No, I'm right". Now you can disagree and just move on.
I think this is the key and will indeed prevent abuse. Anyone who uses the red X owns what (s)he did, and it's easy to see just how disagreeable any particular member is. :)

Hehehehe, yeah, by the stats I am somewhat controversial.
Yay me! Status Quo is overrated.

When we know each other, we generally know why the other hit disagree. And sometimes the restraint of not making a post on the subject will PREVENT another flame-war.

Can I just say how completely dumbfounded I am that the "red x" is being abused? I mean I should probably be used to it by now, but this stuff never gets any less irritating.

Are we not here to help people vape and stop smoking?

Around here you sometimes need a Kevlar suit, that is true.

Especially when going "Outside' . . .

BTW: Even with the recent abuse - Still "Like" having the "Disagree" Button, however I "Agree' with the Majority that a requirement should include a reply post to explain reason for same being given or have it nullified . . .

It's called growing pains. At first it's all fun and games, then crap hapoens, then things settle down into a more normal mode.

Just gotta get through the learning process. In a way it's good that this happened. We learned some things and that there are consequences. Kinda like real life, no? ;)

Even through this, we are still helping new members find their way through the maze of information.

but why? people quite often disagree with other people! and might or might not willing to explain themselves ;) i really don't see why this is being made into such a big deal. oliver turned the neutral rating for the disagree button into a positive and that should have set everybody's mind at ease and put an end to that discussion.
even 30 disagrees in a row shouldn't cause a commotion - apparently, somebody did not agree with mike's point of view and that's ok in my book. mike tries to substantiate his posts as much as possible but that doesn't mean he can convince everybody.

Still, not everytime someone "dislikes" or "disagrees" when someone says something is an explanation required. Life isn't that cut and dry. Each situation must be thought of and trying to micro manage people into always needing to explain the reasons they may have clicked a button... is without foresight into the all of the possible reasons they may have clicked it...

How many "this is the best juice or mod ever" posts have you seen... Perhaps someone spilled or had their juice go bad, certainly disliking that wouldn't require someone explain why they clicked on it.

Certainly there are times that an explanation would be nice to have... but forcing one when an explanation isn't always required or needed is just being blind to the unlimited possibilities of why someone may have clicked a button.

You know, the more this goes on, I am leaning to the "avoid over-regulation" camp. Hopefully instances like this are the exception, and thats what we have Mods for. Perhaps sharing good etiquette with the uninitiated might be enough.
