I made a major mistake yesterday when watching tv. I spent 5 hrs (5!!) watching the dullest, most boring thing I have ever seen on HBO. Parade's End. I love history and it was England during the 1st WW. I kept thinking it was bound to 'pick up the pace' at some point. NOPE. That's 5 hrs I'll never get back! Still amazed that something that boring, IMO, was on HBO. Watched all 5 episodes just knowing it would 'kick in' at some point. NOPE. What a waste of time. Been watching documentaries ever since, which I like.

Found my bride a used like-new four wheel Jazzy mobility scooter for $300 (aka 'steal') similar to...

159174812_new-ev-rider-minirider-metallic-red-electric-power-chair.jpg

Got tired real quick, of breaking it down and reassembling (4 pieces). So I treated myself and bought a used one of these...

picture-thumb.jpg

Medicare would have bought the scooter, but it would have taken at least a year to process the paperwork! Apparently, too many folk in the past would 'em get for their grandkids to ride around on. So now it's a major pain in da buttocks to get.

I thought the scooter folks took care of the paperwork? Least that's what they used to advertise on TV but, now that you mention it, I haven't seen one those commercials in a while. Too busy advertising disposable catheters.

Thats a great buy. What size hitch receiver does it take. I can only put the smaller one. I have a Jazzy 600 Power chair. It'll do 6mph and has cusioned front wheels to get up on a curb.

Yep, it's what they advertised and they did quite a good job of it to the tune of millions of dollars. The company is out of business and I hope those who thought up that scam are in jail. Evidently they talked a lot of people into needing one so they could bill for it and Medicare just paid for them all until somebody finally figured out that something wasn't right. Now, people who truly need equipment have to walk through coals to get it. My sister just went through a year of calls and letters and even contacting her Congressman 3 times just to get a special wheelchair for her husband. It was crazy-and she STILL doesn't have it because now that she's finally gotten Medicare to deny it she now has to deal with Medicaid. A lady who is also a resident of the nursing home suffered through a couple years needing a special chair and now she's deteriorated so much she couldn't use it even if she could go the route my sister did. Medicare is now saving lots of money by ignoring requests.

Two inch. Oh, da lift wa$ quite a bit more than da scooter!

BTW, da scooter is a Pride Go-Go, not a Jazzy. Although, I did also buy a nice used Jazzy 1101 joy stick control mobility chair with new batts for $300. I'm most certain that it will have to be utilized sometime in da future. If not, then I'll donate both to our church 'medical closet'.

ETA: Janet, you're ever so right!!! Dat 'sow' up in DC sure has large and leaking teats... unless ya... never mind...

I totally know about this. I've been working for 2 years to get my daughter a new power chair, now I have to start all over again. She has never been ambulatory, she's 34! You would think they would know by now that it is a permanent condition....Our new health care at work.

Wow, that is a great deal, and to get two for that price. Then again, bein in Fla, they probably have a huge supply of em. :D

Jup. Heard a nurse talking to an elderly couple as she was walking them back out to waiting room about this a couple years ago at the Dr office. Nurse was saying this lady would have no trouble getting hers due to what/how the doc had ordered it and her insurance etc.
It's the same with everything. IRS said their budget was cut 350 mil dollars, so folks would have to wait on their tax returns longer this year...........uhmmmm and what factor did the 6 BILLION you gave out in fraudulent returns play in all this??? We wouldn't have no poor people in this country if we could corral the waste!

SSSLLLLOOOOOWWWWWWW Back Porch Last Night. I guess XMas tuckered everyone out...

Good Morning Everyone. I think ya'll are going to need a lot of this to make it through the day.

Mornin sweet cakes! Tap a vein and hook me up!! lol

Hope each of you had a good Christmas!

This morning feels like the morning after the 3 nights before!

Daughter and sil still in town, and more family stuff goin on today.

Folks opted to stay at local hotels this year so that Mama Bear could have some down time, which is the reason I'm able to post this morning.

I love having everyone here. What precious memories we've made. I am tired though!

Unfortunately it wouldn't matter if 6 docs submitted legitimate need if they're ignored. Misswish, I suppose you've contacted your senator? Are there any places around who repair/customize those chairs/scooters? I'm wondering if it would be possible to buy a used one and have it customized? Of course it would depend on how much customizing would be needed and what that cost would be. Pulling at straws here.

Flower, it's wonderful that your family is hanging around for awhile. When we visited our daughter this past summer we rented a house 5 minutes away. We each had our own down time and yet we could get together and do things whenever we wanted. It was great. So much better than squashing everyone in the same house. i think there are websites around for that sort of thing.

Semi, I'm headed for my 3rd cup this morning. The first 2 haven't kicked in yet - you wouldn't happen to have a splitter so I can share Deb's line would you?

Morning ya'll! Nice to see some of you still have family visiting. You're blessed. :)

Been looking at condos in FL, haven't decided if I'll try to stay here or move down with the rest of the old people in 'god's waiting room'. So much less hassle. No yard work to deal with, etc. Some even have reasonable monthly HOA's under $300. I'll be going down there to visit my mom after I get the RV anyway, might as well look around. I grew up in south FL, so I'm familiar. Mom has been there over 50 yrs. Although we have never been close, I guess I should consider being near her. I'd leave the condo to my son, they'll have a place to retire, can rent it out in the mean time. Decisions decisions.

We have been doing the same thing - been looking at the Pensacola, Daytona, and Melbourne area for a couple of years now for our final retirement area. While we like where we are as far as basic living goes - we have to drive to get to our favorite things in life - so why not move closer to it...

Morning to you too or should I say good afternoon. Wife and I are working on clearing out the MIL house so we can move in. Started about 8 this morning and by 4pm I am about frapped. There is no dancing around it any longer, mom's a hoarder. Not the filthy dirty kind but there is more junk around here than you all would believe. Every drawer and shelf is full. Hundreds of linens, magazines, books, little knick knacks and tons of other things. For example there are clothes in her closet that still have the tags on them and were purchased in the 80's. Anyhow we've been busy.

Come on down. There are a couple available near us. They are selling around $200k. It's around 80 degrees outside today. Sunny, almost cloudless day. Would love to have you as a neighbor. Iffy is diagonally across the state from us so maybe we could all get together once in a while. We are in Deerfield Beach. Actually haven't moved from VA yet but expect to around May or June.

Semi, I was born and raised in Daytona. Still have plenty of family there. Any questions PM me and hopefully I can answer them.

I was just thinking, between ncpatches, semi, iffy and myself we could populate our own little neighborhood. I'm looking for a large plot of land out in Loxahatchee, why don't I up it to around 10 acres and we all build our dream homes. We would each have a couple of acres so we wouldn't be in each others way. You can get an acre of land out there for around $20k and your only about 20 minutes from Deerfield Beach and Palm Beach. All the amenities right near by.

Property prices are on the rise in FL now. Would be the time to buy, before they get crazy high again.
