You are right though. Even the Marines have F/A-18s and a couple of other birds. The Army has helicopters and planes, Navy has an aircraft for pretty much any purpose and can reach any spot on the planet... Not sure why there is a single purpose branch like the Air Force.
Never, ever, begin a sentence with, "Even the Marines!" I'll be gettin' Deb's fryin' pan! Deb? Doodles????

Now here iz where I get a beatin fur callin da Marinez an army!
Least you know the error of your ways! :). My first (late) husband was a Marine. He fought in Vietnam - 2 tours, at the tail end. I was just a kid during that war, and, like many my age, was very anti anything to do with the military. Thankfully, I grew up! (((((((Armed Services)))))))

Lol! These FOD posts are bringing back memories of my Drill Sargent Dad. He had 3 girls that he taught to police the yard before mowing, mow in straight lines, edge rake, & trim hedges level. And we knew how to wash, wax, & detail the cars, too. Once, just for fun, mowed the yard in circles & swirls & wavy, overlapping lines. I got to do it over again the same day. And the next 4 days. 2 of those days were after school. Do it right the first time. The man knew how to make an impression. I love my Daddy!
Yuup. My Dad, too. Didn't much care for him when I was a kid. Now, I think he's about the greatest guy on earth!

Ok, air force.

Army sez. We need more planes.
Congress sez... sux bein' you.

Navy says. We need more planes.
Congress sez... sux bein' you.

Hmmm... Navy thinks.
Marines need planes.
Congress sez, sorry but you're navy and got planes.
Navy sez, nope. We ain't given no planes to da marinez
Congress sez... well dey need planes. Ok. You got em.

Army thinks... we ain't got no other branches. :(
Hmm... Letz make one. An air force!
Army sez... air force needz planes.
Congress sez... well yeah. Makes sense that they need planez.
U got em.

Moral of story... iffy wuz closest! ;)
There's a great series called, "The Corps," by WEB Griffin. Fiction, but historically accurate. He splains it pretty much the same way!

On 9/11: the company for which I worked is HQ'd in NYC. We had 480-ish people in Tower 1. 442 were lost, that day. I lived in metro DC and traveled extensively for work. I had been flying to San Diego via LAX, out of Dulles for 6 months. Had a meeting on 9/11 in DC, so I changed my flight for that week. A friend didn't.

Happy Birthday, Gracie!

I felt so helpless at 9-11. I gave blood for the first time when the plane crashed in Sioux City.

I know where you are at, Legs. I had a depressive episode early this week. But sometimes it is good to remember how bad things were. PTSD can sneak up on us when we block out those memories. Just don't dwell on them, but deal with the situation today.

Yes, yes, yes! Dwelling = not helpful; dealing with it today = engaging = very helpful! Thanks for this reminder, 3mg!

My parents were on a United flight from London to JFK when I went in the living room and flipped on the TV. THe news was saying 2 united flights had vanished off the radar. No other info. No flight numbers. No impacts at that point.

You might need a fry'n pan, Gary!

did you ask Gary's permishun?? Night hun! have a good'un

Hahaha!! Nope... just made the announcement and dropped da mike. I'm a rebel like that!

Marines are the tip of thr spear. The US's first response force. Everybody else shows up later. That's why they are joint with the Navy. They fight, we get em there with all their stuff and they have a bunch of it. :)

Very true. They are a group who will do what needs to be done without question and without fail. With minimal back-up. They are tough bunch, for sure.

COD Aircraft are C-2 Greyhounds. They are the same basic platform as the E-2C Hawkeye Early Warning AC. The both belong to the Navy. Always have. As far as I know the Air Force has nothing that can land on a carrier. The airframe has to be considerably stronger than what the AF flys.

Yes! Thank you for that! I knew they shared a platform, but couldn't for the life of me remember which one. It's a Snoopy without the dish!

That's because the Air Force builds barracks, mess halls, exchanges, golf courses and gyms, run out of money and go back for funding for runways, maintenance sheds and airplanes. The Navy of the other hand does exactly the opposite. Ships and airplanes first, other junk later.

Hahahahaha!! Now that sounds about right... they just learned how to work the system better than we did!

Those are OLD neighborhoods with railroad tracks on one side and levees on the other. We've even had an afternoon of sunshine today so it's really not all that bad everywhere.

Glad to hear that y'all had some nice weather yesterday! I just know that I saw Bossier on the weather channel and :shock::shock:! Very happy that y'all are doing okay over there!

One word, bombers

Last stinkie 10/15/2013

Hahahahahaha! Y'all got more than that... which is a good thing, cause Navy can handle bombing runs too. I just HATED it when we decom'd the A-6 Intruders... I LOVED that platform! I was actually on the last deployment with the last squadron before their decommission. Only plane I've ever seen that could carry its own weight in bombs...

Day-um, talkin' 'bout 'carpet bombing' da back porch wid one of my fave topics! Was gonna group my tagged posts, but sorry, at dis point, I'll just go wid da flow...

Luv da way ya think! PEACE THROUGH POWER (Anyone notice we aren't speakin' German nor Japanese, thanx to our Greatest Generation?)

Hahahahaha!! Amen, Brother... amen!

... da residual naval (possibly navel also) berth/head aromas!

LOL! That's entirely possible as well...

Someone mentioned sumpin' 'bout inter-service rivalries. Hell, my Dad luv'd to relate da ol' WWII Army vs.Navy vs. Marine 'encounters'. But my experience in 'Nam was quite da opposite. We KNEW we HAD to rely upon each branch and each other to get our missions accomplished and hopefully return home to hug our loved ones! All too many didn't have that opportunity (over 58,000) , thanks to fvcking/fvckless politicians!

Oops, did I just offend someone? Take it up with your chaplain... oh, wait... never fvcking mind... <Google might be your friend or a nemesis>

Yeah, I had many run-ins with Marines. Some in good fun, some not... but at the end of the day, we always had each others' backs. Especially when we were overseas and on shore leave. We might kick each others' butts in a bar fight, but if a civilian started something we'd stand shoulder to shoulder till it was done. I've been thankful to have a Marine or two around on MULTIPLE occasions! ;)

Never, ever, begin a sentence with, "Even the Marines!" I'll be gettin' Deb's fryin' pan! Deb? Doodles????

Hahahaha! Sorry, Birdie!! I absolutely meant no offense.
Let me be clear... I love ALL of my brothers and sisters of the Armed Forces. Each and every one of them. We may have our differences and rivalries; we may rib each other from time to time; but, I'd drag my .... through a hundred miles of broken glass to give any one of them my last T-shirt if they needed it. Many times theirs is a thankless job and they do it for very little pay and not a lot of general respect... but they do it anyway. They are ALWAYS in my daily prayers and I make it a point to thank the veterans I see around town any time I see them. I particularly enjoy talking to them about old stories when we're at the doctors' offices. :)

whack away dearie......but gently........he's a sweetheart entitled to one mistake, even that one.....and he did admit his error!! hehehe

Hahahaha! It's okay... I'm pretty hard-headed. And I'm bound to put my foot in my mouth again at some point! ;)

((((((((Birdy)))))))) God is so amazing!! What a horrible thing for all of you. But I'm so glad he saved my birdy!! And will continue to do so!!

Amen!!!

Yeah. The medical center where we go for chemo treatments is very near the VA hospital. And there are a lot of Vets that go to the same place we go, too. I do get some 'shocked' reactions, but mostly they are very happy to just talk for a bit. Then we just swap stories and laugh together... it's always fun to hear stories from the ones who were before my time!

Hahaha... no problem. I swiped that one from google images anyway. I just thought it was pretty. :)

Ahh ... back on normal schedule this morning ... no Miles sitting today. Wow only 7 pages to catch up on ... thought I was in Military History Class.

I'm a big fan of WEB Griffin ... read most of his series of books.

Here is a story military related that I found quite touching.

The hubbys great great uncle was a WWI vet. He passed at the age of 102. At the grave side they did an actual 21 gun salute (21 guys firing). The family invited those guys to join us in the church hall for the traditional supper. I was talking to one of the younger guys that had been part of the detail. Thanked him for his service and for his kindness in being part of the ceremony. He told me that they had so many volunteers for the detail of a WWI vet they had to draw names out of a hat and that he felt privileged to attend. Really touched me that did.

So glad you shared that. Doesn't surprise me a bit though. Would have been surprising if it wasn't that way!

Ah, David...that is too too funny! And I wouldn't want to be THAT age again....just replace the '1' with '7', and ya have it.

:)

Yeah, only if we could do that and still know what we've learned since then!
