Have you tried compatibility mode or "run as administrator"?
Well you don't really "run" this type of scanner. It's just always on. Put a stack of paper in it, hit a start button and it scans them all, both sides, to pdf.

Knot reeely, legz. WIfe had a scan snap scanner for 10 years. Win 10 updated... no longer works. Scansnap sez... no drivers for win 10. So, $500 scanner down the drain.
You may well have tried this already but according to this article you can use Windows 10 compatibility mode for many ScanSnap scanners for which Fujitsu has not created Windows 10 drivers. There's also a list of older ScanSnap scanners confirmed to work in compatibility mode.

A surly looking bunch

Sent from a dark, twisted corner of the back porch, covered in cobwebs and slightly damp.

I for one, have a grand hope dat da social sharing will garner/generate future porch gatherings. Seriously, da inaugural Odyssey here has been a joyous, entertaining, rewarding and flipping awesome vaping version of Woodstock (sans da mud)!

And to just prove it - have ya ever seen a happier group...

The Odyssey has been the bang...

@DancingHeretik did that computer come with 10 or did you upgrade? If you had 7 you can always roll it back. Check this out and see if it will help you stopping the auto installs of upgrades.
Change how Windows installs or notifies you about updates - Windows Help
This is my new computer. It came with Win 10. The link you gave me is for older versions. Win 10 doesn't give you a choice about automatic updates. The only choice is whether or not it warns you first before it reboots after the update.
The learning curve for Linux was steep for me, about six years ago. May be better, now. Don't know what I will do when I am forced to get rid of this POS.
I've been putting off getting Linux for exactly that reason. I'm a little nervous about such a big change.

But, I've hated Windows since it first came out, back when it was just a shell program and not the entire operating system. And, Win 10 has finally pushed me into it. Just the stuff I already know that Win 10 does is enough, the for sure documented stuff had me teetering on the edge.

It didn't take much to push me over.

I've spent the afternoon talking to my brother about Linux. He already has one of his computers operating on Linux. So, he should be able to help me get started. Although he doesn't really use that computer very much. So, we'll see how it goes.

If all else fails, I can always go back. And, I do have an older (very, very slow) computer I can fall back on in the meantime if I really have to.

I'm excited and very nervous. I want to say good-bye to Windows!

Not being the "computer savy" half of this partnership, I can't add much to this conversation but I can say that my better half had all of her work stuff switched over to W10 (against her will) and said it IS a huge PITA. She also said we are DEFINITELY NOT making the switch at home! (Yes dear. [Guys, in case you don't know, this is the proper answer in ALL situations. ;) ) When it comes time to replace this unit, we're switching to MAC. We've "threatened to for years but Windows/M.S. just seems to be getting wackier & wackier all the time. It seems like they're only changing for the sake of change. If it's not broke, DON'T FIX IT!!!

My :2c: ............

I suppose if you have the money to switch to Mac, that is your choice. Even if I had the money, I would rather go with Linux. $$$$
Hmmm, good to know. I'll have to check into this angle (delicately of course ha, ha) LIS, I'm not "computer savvy" enough to know all the ins & outs but $$$ makes sense to BOTH of us!!! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes.................:thumb:

No, they're changing to make money. Simple as that. And, I've had enough of MS greed.

For those of you that are seriously interested in Linux, one of the easiest versions to install and use without needing any special knowledge is probably Linux Mint. Everything will just work from the start, or at least the last time I played with it. If you have someone that can help you with installation and any issues you might encounter, by all means use whatever distribution they are familiar with, but if you are on your own Mint seemed like one of the best. Just my :2c: Opinions may vary.
