Prayers please. Houston & surrounding arear is flooded.
I've been watching it and wondering how you were faring during all of this. I was wondering about Kaz too, so I'm glad to know both of you are safe.

(grumble from a dark twisted corner of the porch)
Im alive but not fit to be around, hi all.
I know the feeling. Hope it gets better for you soon.

Grouchy... Homicidal... Genocidal, whatever you want to call it.
Know those feelings too. Hang in there.

I've been MIA the last few days I know. I was working at a base that has close to 30 aircraft. That's a far cry from the few little 4 that we have. So, YES, there was no time for Internet, email or NUTHING. I wish I could have made some Hangouts, but it just wasn't happening.

I'm glad to see every body is having a great time. I sure wish I was there, but such is the life.

I'm really hurt about Prince. He really was a true artist.........he was still so young. :(

But, I'm a beginner at Linux. I thought fedora was for more 'advanced' users. And, how serious are the security concerns in Mint?

Fedora works very well. The only thing a "new" user would have issues with is the inability to browse the repository to see what packages were available to install. Otherwise, it's a very robust distribution and I wouldn't have any issues recommending it.

As for Mint......

Linux Mint downloads (briefly) compromised [LWN.net]

Clem still refuses to address these concerns in a public domain.

How Linux Mint is preventing future hacks and increasing security

Clem responded to such criticisms in a reply to a comment: “This is the kind of things (sic) which gets solved between users and their maintainers, or between maintainers and developers, not on a blog, with an open letter, surfing on the wave of despicable attacks and in front of a hungry crowd. Somebody who communicates like that isn’t trying to solve a problem.”

This isn't the first time this has been brought up, and each time it's been swept under the rug.

Now, for a user who wants to play with Linux and just use it as an alternative to Windows in their home, Mint is a very nice distro. However, I earn my bread and butter with my machine as well, and I need something I'm not going to have to worry about down the road.

Mornin' errybuddy!

I'm in awe of those who are apparently speaking some foreign language called Linux. I wonder how high I should put it on my list of "things I fully intend to learn about but probably never will."

That list is already very lengthy, but at the very top of it for the moment is learning how to actually use my best camera, a Panasonic GH3 with a 14-140 mm zoom lens. I've never actually become completely familiar with any camera that I've ever owned.

I know a little bit about a whole bunch o' tings but my only field of expertise is being me. Nobody does it better.

These guys concur.

There are a few distributions that are very good for the beginner. In fact, much like today's Windows users, there's not much you need to know about using some of the more modern distros. Ubuntu and Mint spring to mind that are very good for someone who doesn't want to know the nuts and bolts, but want an alternative to that mess called Winderz.

If you REALLY want to get down to brass tacks and learn how Linux works, there are minimal distributions that will force you to learn how the OS works if you want to do anything with it in a meaningful fashion.

Good Morning Everyone from the final day of the Odyssey. I've had a wonderful time with the best group of friends a man could have. I really kind of wish we'd planned on a two weeks although I must admit I'm ready to go home. I miss Doree and AbbyDabby doggie a lot. The cat too but, can't admit it cause I'm sure he wouldn't admit to missing me. Doree says Abby misses me too. Says she seems to always be searching for something and wants to always get in the car. I'm seriously considering driving straight through instead of stopping halfway for the night. :)
