Just Kay?come to hangout Kay![]()
Loved Red Skelton!Don't remember Pete and Gladys, but do remember all the others. How about Medic, Dr. Wellby, The Millionaire (I'm still waiting for Michael Anthony to show up at our door) The Honeymooners, the Red Skelton Show, Groucho Marx, Queen for A Day, the Jack Parr show. Actually, I was surprised a few years ago that my 30 year old daughter was very familiar the I Love Lucy Show. Here she'd been watching the reruns for awhile. I guess some young'ns do appreciate real comedy.
It's a natural tendency for "older folks" to dismiss current talent and praise only the talent that was around when we were younger.
I never have subscribed to that philosophy. Considering how long I've felt that "different" does not mean "worse", I believe I can safely say that I will always appreciate the old AND the new, as well as everything in between.
JMHO: This thread spends too much time for my tastes being critical of today and remembering yesterday through the rose colored glasses that are lent to history the further removed it becomes.
I really made an effort to make my statement as diplomatically as I could. It does reflect the way I really feel though. Frankly, I would get by just fine if the conversations extolling the virtues of yesterday were accompanied less often by criticism of today. My personal view is that it's a crutch I don't need, so do bop me on the head instead of on my legs.bells, don't make me go over there and bop you on your pointy little head.
What about Lawrence Welk? We watched it every week on the 1 black and white TV.Don't remember Pete and Gladys, but do remember all the others. How about Medic, Dr. Wellby, The Millionaire (I'm still waiting for Michael Anthony to show up at our door) The Honeymooners, the Red Skelton Show, Groucho Marx, Queen for A Day, the Jack Parr show. As a first-born child being raised Presbyterian, I was not ALLOWED to watch American Bandstand until my younger siblings insisted on increased liberality. Same with staying up late enough to watch The Wonderful World of Disney on Saturday night. It was on so LATE! 7:30 to 8:30 pm if I recall.Am I the only one who rushed home from school to watch American Bandstand every afternoon?
did not get that channel.Am I the only one who rushed home from school to watch American Bandstand every afternoon?
You had a bike??? I had a stick....As a first-born child being raised Presbyterian, I was not ALLOWED to watch American Bandstand until my younger siblings insisted on increased liberality. Same with staying up late enough to watch The Wonderful World of Disney on Saturday night. It was on so LATE! 7:30 to 8:30 pm if I recall.
After being cooped up in school all day, I was more interested in riding my bike, playing wiffle ball in the street, or playing baseball at the field half a block away than I was in watching TV anyway.
I actually watched it but, it was only on Saturdays by the time I got to it.Am I the only one who rushed home from school to watch American Bandstand every afternoon?
Man from U.N.C.L.E and Wild, Wild, West were my favorites.Oh, Eve Arden - Our miss Brooks. The Avengers - Steed and Mrs. Peel. (Diana Rigg voted the sexiest woman alive by TV guide) I spy, Starsky & Hutch. The man from UNCLE. Wild Wild West.
But Biggie has a point. While great shows... they were over the course of 30, 40, 50(?) years? So it's not like they came on like gangbusters. (Reminded me of the untouchables!)
So, is it really much different than today. When you get a decent show every year or so?
It was on the local ABC channel (Ch.9) growing up.did not get that channel.
yep. David McCallum made a quip on a NCIS show as he was being prepped for a bleedout-- flashback! The storylines got repetitious.Man from U.N.C.L.E and Wild, Wild, West were my favorites.
Oh I loved Hazel!! Wish I could find reruns of that show. Then came Hazel & Dobie Gillis.
I don't think she was on 8 tracks. she didn't start til the 80's and I have her first album on cassette. Have most of them, but am missing her later ones from the last several years. I did have a bunch of 8 tracks and a stereo with 8 track in it that I gave to my neighbor when my son was young and her radio broke.Unless you still have 8 tracks - your fan hood is short short short...
oh kay.........that is awesome!! So sweet of you sandra!! Just perfect for kay, and matches your Reo perfectly!! Gonna put some bling on it??? hehehe
you said it! There is some true talent today, but not as muchAllll of those were such great shows. most things now are just lame, not really funny. Actors trying to "act" funny instead of really being funny.
I suppose negativity of any type isn't the best thing, but although the "old days" certainly had their share of problems, I think it was a better time to live in, even if we didn't always know it. Technology has vastly improved, but many other things have gone way down hill, making folks long for better days. But yeah, these are the times we're in, and we do all try to make the best of em for the most part. It's good that you can see these times in a more positive light than many. I try to always look at the bright side, but these days the bright side is getting dimmer and dimmer for me.It's a natural tendency for "older folks" to dismiss current talent and praise only the talent that was around when we were younger
Hope y'all have a safe and uneventful trip.We have stopped in South Carolina for the night.
Like Matt, by the time I watched it, it was Saturdays, but I was faithful. Loved that and soul trainAm I the only one who rushed home from school to watch American Bandstand every afternoon?
love him! and love ducky!yep. David McCallum made a quip on a NCIS show as he was being prepped for a bleedout-- flashback! The storylines got repetitious.
