Mike, I've always had that board. No problem. The neighborhood association is different. I'm not sure why but, it seems the a..holes gravitate to them and as soon as they get a little power they forget where they came from and allow the petty tyrant out. I don't know anyone who has ever had to live under one that liked or never had a problem with them. I'll relate an experience we had here the first weekend we were ever here tomorrow. Right now sleep time. Goodnight my friend.
Goodnight all.

Thanks for the generator 'inputs' peoples. I really could get by, even for a extended period, if I could run the refrigerator and heater (natural gas). In the summer time, I wouldn't like, but could put up w/o air conditioning.

But honestly, I don't know if I could move the refrigerator by myself to run an extension cord to it. It took me and our contractor to muscle that dang thing 'in/out' while we were trying to get it level/plumb and in place. Our old smaller one, I could move in/out by myself. So if we go this 'route' might have to bight the bullet and go for something besides a generator and extension cords.

And I don't do electrical work beyond the basics ... so I'd need a contractor to do any hookups of the generator into our 'grid.
Yup. Dem bottom freezer tingies iz brutal to move. BUT you mite consider a really hevy dooty 6 ft or so extension and set it alongside or even underneath so you can reach the plug without moving it. Of course ya still gotta move it once! :/

Just like vaping ... nice to have backups.

I've got to deal w/ a homeowners association too ... and the board only has 1 member ... my wife.

Definitely have him talk w/ the doc about a support insole. Mine was plantar fasciitis too, I've got the beginning of a bone spurr. The doc said I had a floating arch. At rest, no weight on my foot, I had a normal amount of curve in my arch ... but w/ weigh on it ... my foot just flattened out.

Great ... now I know who to call when I need something fixed.
Lol...you guys have me LMAO over here to nite. You Guys

Knowing your kitchen and you both just from the forum, I think the installed standby generator would work well for you. You don't have to go whole hog with17kw or more but, the price difference between 12k and 17k is only about a grand and 17 or 18kw gives you a lot of headroom so you don't have to think about two major devices starting at the same time. Anything with a motor draws a bunch more on start up than when running.

Ya folks here on he porch have helped me to feel good and re affirmed my self image. I'm a humble soul , and really don't expect praise for doing the right thing. I just wanted to share the one good thing I did today.

It's not every day we're given the opportunity to be helpful. Ya done good!

So you folks 'knowledgeable' about generators. What do you look for when purchasing one? What names/brands are good ones. Do you have 'em hooked up to you house wiring with the cutover switching and all? Or do you just run heavy duty extension cords to you appliances?

It's not common in our area for extended power outages ... but the last couple few years we have had bad outages in areas around/close to us that were out for up to a week. Makes one wonder about getting something.

As already covered, sizing and installation type depend on your particular situation. For temporary, short term, a suitable sized unit and heavy x-cords can be fine. For longer term, when you need to keep the food frozen and the fingers thawed, a properly installed backup may be preferable. Propane or other on-site fuel is preferred to say infrastructure natural gas - which could be impacted by the same storm.

The (usual) enclosure on backup gens can really make a difference in the sound...

There was barely room for us in the car what with that cat crate and the lap dog (she rides in the passenger's lap) plus all the other crapola, nope, no generator. There is a 500 watt inverter built into the car though, don't think it'll run the refrigerator though.

Well, at least it's enough to charge your mod batteries!

Wow, busy day so I didn't get on here till late and had 5 pages to catch up on!

Hemodude - WELCOME to the best porch ever. Glad to have you! How long and what are you vaping?

Roto - Sorry to hear about the job situation. If you do find yourself looking for a new job something will turn up and who knows, might even be better than what you have now. And YES IT WOULD MATTER - A LOT!!! We'd all be surprised to find out how many people would care!

Matt - When Mike and I were looking to downsize it looked like we might end up in a place with one of those horrid associations. I was determined if that happened the first order of business for me was to be on that damn board!! Somebody has to ride herd on those people!!

Crystal - yep, Matt's right, home is where the heart is.

Runamok - good job for the helping hand! You're a good man even if you do run amok sometimes!

Willie - I was bopping in my chair to those tunes!

Ok, now that I've caught up here I need to go catch up on some sleep. Gotta go get the Miles in the morning, but at least his daddy will be here in the afternoon and take him back home.

What kind of doggie is gman?? Sounds so cute. My sisters family dog FLASH passed away after 16 years of Love, that he brought to our family. He was a dashund.. ya no a hot dog doggie. Lol. Did I spell that right? I haven't had a dog since I lost my chihuahua mix to stomach cancer back in 1991... I think I really want a dog finally-its about that time... adopt from the NY aspca I guess ??

Geordi is a Belgian Tervuren. Tasha is too, she is my avatar. I hope to never have to be without a dog. May have to downsize someday (I expect Geordi to top out about 55-60 lbs, Tasha is about 45 lbs), but I love my dogs!
Tervs are hairy, too.

Welcome Hemo! Pull up a rocker, lounge, hamock or sit on the floor! Have a vape with us and join in the chatter. Saw you on the other porch too?

I could drop dead tomorrow, and it wouldn't matter anyway. :)
Don't talk like that, Lady. It would matter!

Well I just got to do the Knight in armor bit. Young lady ran outta gas in my front yard with 2 po'd kids and a dead cell. Brought out the mower gas , cell phone an an umbrella.(it was pouring rain).Got the best part of 5 gal o gas in her tank, let her call her dad and kept her dry, ish. I was at least worth the air I breathed today by helping Her and the kids out. Chivalry is not dead, just wounded! "MEDIC"
Chivalry is not dead, it is just a forgotten art. I am amazed that so many people confuse Chivalry as flirting. So sad.

Strange thing is, mowing a lawn DOES make me happy. :D
I enjoy getting on my rider and driving around my yard. I was heartbroken when my pain management Dr. told me to quit mowing yards other than my own. :(

I have a small portable generator that will run my freezer and the central heating unit. I also use it for my camper when I go on my yearly deer hunt.

Glad to see you made it to the Back Porch. What kind of mod do you have? It will help determine what will be best for use on your walker.

Get one & have it wired in. We were without power in my section of a small town for a week after Ike. Other parts of town for 2 weeks or more. I was fortunate in the I evacuated to a friends ranch 150 miles north & he lost power, for a week, too, but he had a generator. It wasn't wired in at the time, but he had one done.after that. We ran cords for fridge freezer & fans, & charging laptops & phones. It made things much easier.
