Oh and Gracie...the dinner was a hit! Didn't burn anything, it was all done at the same time, the little b'day cakes went over real well and we played Euchre till late into the evening

They keep coming up with daylight, blue light, light light. How about somebody makes a $@%# light bulb light? And how about "this 1.2w light = one 60 watt light bulb. Um... no. It doesn't.

They go by radiated lumens so all things being equal a 10 watt LED puta out the same amount if light as a 60 watt incandescent bulb. Color temperature is a different thing all together and you have a much broader range to choose from with LED. You can even buy LED bulbs that you can control from a smart phone and have any color you want. Try that with an incandescent bulb!

Watts is power consumed, not lumens of light output. Lumens will vary depending on the actual applied voltage. How close you are to the nearest transformer and what your utility sets at their "source" will cause that to change, as will the total load on the system at any given time.

So, if a 5 watt LED puts out, say 700 lumens, and a 60 watt incandescent puts out 700 lumens, light output is equal, power consumption and bill are not

True, Matt. Thing is the eye perceives different "shades" of light differently. So while they "may" put out the same lumens... doesn't "look" the same. No one has yet to duplicate the incandescent light we are all used to. Not to mention, as we age, our eyes need more light. Not less.

Rest, aspirin and drink plenty of clear liquids (no, bourbon doesn't count). In about a week you'll be all better. If that doesn't work take 7 days.

I'm not sure but Google probably is. I do know the LED replacement bulbs equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent are still pretty expensive. I pretty much buy the 60 watt replacement bulbs. Haven't really shopped for 100 watt bulbs in awhile but I notice that there's a lot more 60 watts than 100 Watts. This is what I've been buying lately and what I've been talking about.

Too true and I've been pretty satisfied with the LED I've been buying. Specially the GEs I've been getting lately. Only 60 watt equivalent but seem nice and bright for a reading lamp.

If the bulb is going into an enclosed light - we always use the white light (daylight) - to hard on the eyes without it being enclosed, but sure lights up a room the best...

Google says 1600 lumen = 100 Watts, 1100 = 75 Watts.

I believe it's 15w = 100w. But VERY hard to find.
I have a few floods in the back yard and for me they work very well. Just haven't found anywhere in the house they'd (15w) be useful.

what does the w stand for in the 15? Are the led's still listed by wattage, just lower wattage? I did see on the pkg matt posted it said 60 w and underneath 10w, so what you're talking about if done the same way would be 100w and underneath 15w??

Lumens are also based on light spectrum medium. At least generally speaking.
I put Daylight CFL's in my work areas like kitchen, workshop, bath, etc. And put soft white in the rest.

I am afraid of that deadly Gallium Arsenide in the Led's.

Problem with lumens. Nobuddy cares to learn about something we never paid attention to. What kind of light do you want where, sir? I want a $##% light bulb. Last 1000 years or so, we need a bulb. Go buy one. Screw it in. Done. Now, hit google and do a research project on them. One for the kitchen. And one for the living room. Another for the bedroom. And ad infinitum.

tell me more about this. Just went and read some about it......saw that some say it's bad, but it also said that incandescent bulbs contain high levels of lead and mercury, and we never knew about that and most of us have cleaned up broken bulbs of those more than once. is the GaAs more of a concern than lead and mercury?

15 watt led is supposedly equivalent to a 100 watt regular bulb. Which in itself makes no sense whatsoever to me since color is not factored in.
