Even though the rules are different, my horror stories from the world of education are not radically different from the world of technology. I read these posts thinking "Yes, it is the same everywhere."

You're right on with that statement !!! I've got my own stories as well, pertaining to what I saw with my dad and the railroads......and what I saw transpire during my long years in the casinos.

Pretty much the same in all areas, imo.

Cut the work force, cut the wages / benefits, then blame the high cost of labor for the poor bottom line...

Because the outfit is now run by someone with a MBA, who knows ALL about the bottom line, and nothing about the business. It's not just Wall Street...

Been using CFL's for Maybe 10 years? Had about 4 quit. None flame.
We have been using fluorescent lamps for decades and they contain mercury as well.
And one thing I love about CFL's they don't burn the crap out of you in a drop light under a car.

I use the daylight spectrum ones in my workshop and love em. Can see much better than with standard florescent or incandescent lighting.
And they will start up at lower temps than standard 4 ft fluorescent tubes will.
I use them in all my outbuildings and they start at below 0 temps. Albeit a bit dimmer than usual when really cold but they warm up and go to full brightness in a few minutes.

Years ago the electric company gave me 4 CFL bulbs and they were crap. Lasted a few weeks at most.
I love my LED droplight, it doesn't even get warm. Of course I bought it at Harbor Freight so it is not, definately not, made in the good old USA. The only thing made in the USA at Harbor Freight is the building.

Can't watch it without going to youtube. Apparently the video owner doesn't want wide distribution or get a pluck because you watch the ad first. I've found that when you link to a video here the ad doesn't play, just the video. I kind of like that.

It's 50o here in NE Florida, and I am donning a heavy fleecy robe atop a very warm pair of velour pjs...and don't intend to get out of them any too soon. This temp is brrr cold for us, and it is raining on top of that!

You are not on any hook.
I am like you and just do what I want to as well. that is If I am very lucky.
I have one fully crazy woman and one half crazy one living in the house with me...
Maybe I have a subconscious desire to burn the house down?

i use the sylvania 60w mini CFL's in my droplight.
I never liked CFLs for some reason. Just didn't care for the quality of the light. Of course the only place I used fluorescent tunes is in my garage/workshop. In my two car garage converted to workshop I have 10 4 foot fixtures. Like a lot of light when I'm using power tools.

Hope everybody had a decent (and safe) new years eve / day. My new years resolution - well... I'll keep that to myself. But one day, just one day I will try to take over the world!

I didn't get in at all yesterday and am trying to plow through what I missed but, with 186 messages to go, I might have to skip ahead. I don't like doing that because the subject changes so quick around here I get lost and it takes about a week to catch up. :)

A brisk 21, but dry. And I'm on the warm side of the State!

But we are not supposed to actually produce anything just be investors?

Yea, it is really crazy nowadays. My first hard drive had 80mb (if I remember correctly - and I never did fill it up during the time I owned it) and now if you have less than a terabyte you are behind the times and running out of storage space. Shoot you can buy a two terabyte external hard drive for around $100 bucks... o_O:confused:
My first was a Western Digital 30mb on a card. Took up three of my 4 expansion slots. Went to and external modem (1200 baud U. S. Robotics) so I had room for a 16 color EGA card. Them was de days.

It worked, and that's one of the advantages of my Xtar. I set the program to .25A, and it did recharge. It sat there doing nothing for about a half hour, and finally showed that moving bar indicating that it was charging. It took a few minutes less than forever, but finally went to full charge.

The name is Nermal, by the way. It looks like Normal, but not quite. Nermal is one of my cats named after a long forgotten character in the Garfield strip.
I typed Nermal but got screwed by the universally hated autocorrect. :)

Should get my VTCminis tomorrow or the next day. Start playing with new equipment will let you all know heard they are supposed to be really good with the last FW update. I don't know why I am saving my SX's for later don't know if there will be a later some days. I feel so bad. But been praying for a better frame of mind about my problems. All I have to do is go to the VA to see people who are a lot worse then me.
