Be safe Roto. Hope the roads clear so you can avoid the 8-H (Hurricane hinders heli helper heading home to hug hound.)

Good morning all! Feeling better, going to handling class tonight with Geordi, his sister and his breeder. Can't wait to see what mod and tank she got!

Morning Cathy! ( hope I got that right) Glad your feeling better! Isn't it exciting when you know someone who's just started vaping?

Here is a good article which explains 1: what the report on carcinogens actually means and 2: how the spectacular headlines prey upon the fact that most people will not check out explanation number 1.

I read something similar in today's paper. Isn't that always the case. If you eat 20 lbs of red meat a day, yes you'd get fatter and your odds of getting cancer in your lifetime would go up by approximately 1%. Let's all panic!

Good morning, porchers

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-34615621

my life is over...
So... Ya just gonna take at face value one of the largest non-health organizations in the world? After all, they are absolutely correct that smoking alternatives are worse than smoking for your health. And they must be correct that sugar grown in Germany cannot be shipped to england because it's a bio-hazzard?
um, yeah. I have less faith in WHO than I do in the FDA and you KNOW how I feel about the FDA.

Well yeah. Caffeine is back in their good graces, as is saturated fat. Now they're lying about bacon, and they are trying to tell us chocolate is no longer an essential dietary component.
this ... and...

They are lying!! And they know it!!
this.

That article failed to mention the most cogent point.

Morning Kay, Cathy and Bells. My, my aren't we all up early this morning, myself included. I went to bed around 9:30 last night and for some unknown reason woke up around 3 this morning. Now I'm going g to be beat around 2 this afternoon. I have the wonderful privilege of going to have my remaining teeth (2 on top and maybe 12 on the bottom) cleaned at noon today. Guess it's time for the semi-annual flossing lecture! I absolutely hate anyone messing with my teef!

I got notice in email yesterday that the Istick I won from Madvapes had shipped. I didn't realize it comes with an Aspire Triton tank and 5 of the new temperature control heads for it. That's really cool because I was thinking of ordering one to try out. Now I'm getting it free. Woo Hoo!! Thanks Madvapes!

Yes I'm going to take what they say at face value. The problem is that the vast majority of people do not comprehend what their face is saying, and misinterpret it.

It's their fault for not being more clear about what they're saying, but they are NOT saying that red meat or processed meats are in the same risk category as cigarettes. In fact, the report contains nearly zero information regarding the degree of risk of getting cancer from various substances.

The WHO ought to fire whoever wrote the report, not because it gives misinformation but because it does a frass-poor job of presenting the information, resulting in most people failing to comprehend the information.

I have seen Farsalinos and other pro-vaping researchers be equally guilty of preparing poor reports. Being an educated scientist does not insure that one knows how to do a good job of writing up a study.

Saw something similar about the 1%. You have to understand that with the media - Raising an undisclosed amount of something by 18% sounds more news worthy than raising your overall chances by 1% - hey folks - they are trying to sell news here... and you get what you pay for... would you pay or even listen if they had said 1% - noooooo....., but 18% is shocking....

One more quick note. Darn if I didn't see gas at $1.73 a gallon just up the street yesterday. That is the lowest I have seen it in many years! Kind of amazing! :w00t::thumbs::banana:

We will probably continue to enjoy the low prices through the holidays and then they will finally find a valid or invalid excuse to start raising it again. Right now they are more worried about where they are going to store all the excess oil reserves... Once they figure that out...

Just popping in my head to say "Hello" and to make sure that Debadoo and Kenna didn't disappear amidst all the rainfall that they had. Yes, you guys passed it on to us over here.

I was busier than a one legged man in an ... kicking contest out here until yesterday. All of that came to an abrupt halt once the storming started yesterday afternoon. Weather events can seem a little dramatic out here since there is basically nothing to stop the wind and being almost on top of the Gulf of Mexico. Before I came to work yesterday, I was up on the levee checking out the surf, and it was mad as hell. Not too long after that, the rain starting coming down. The wind was kicking even before the rain started. I went to supper last night dressed in full rain suit. :w00t:

It stormed all night long last night. We lost power multiple times. We lost Internet and Cable TV. (Welcome to Grand Isle) Couldn't get diddly done except packing parts without Internet. Instead, I watched weather last night... it was pretty fascinating. Those helicopters tied down on the flight line were rocking. We doggone near paddled back to the apartments last night. We couldn't get a parts truck last night either as Hwy 1 was closed at the locks due to water being over the road.

Right now we are basically cut off from the rest of civilization. They closed Hwy 1 at the locks after 5 due to high tide and being impassable with water. All I can say is that water better go somewhere before Wednesday and time for me to come home.

Glad everybody is safe and sound. Hugs to those of you are are not feeling well. Hugs to everybody just because I can! :D
Debra, sounds like an exciting time that you'd rather not have. Hope that water recedes before Wednesday!
Take care! :)

We had a lady at work that was in her 70s. When they'd ask her if she had anything to add when she being interviewed for jury duty years ago she looked right at the defendant and said "I don't know fer sure but, that dude looks guilty as hell". Not only did she get dismissed but, she never even got called again.
I agree with Iffy and think of jury duty as just that, a duty.
Oh, how I love this!

Didn't read the article, because it was blocked, but from what you all are saying, I'm glad I didn't.

Well, my usual wake up time is around 7, but slept in till 9 this morning. It's gonna take me at least 2 hours to come around.

Who likes to open their mouth to let a dentist mess with your teeth? I know I don't, and both of us can be included in the countless numbers who feel the same........it's a necessary evil; yep, that's what I say! :)

wow that guy is wonderful! thanks for sharing that

Jup......we got a decent amt of rain and some flooding in areas around here, but not anywhere near the gully washer they predicted. Houston got hit much harder. Sure glad y'all are ok, and hope the water recedes! I also love furious storms if folks aren't in real danger.

Any one note dat Debra bad mouthed da wind, rain and loss of communication; but not a word 'bout being isolated on an island with da guys?
well.......she did say she wanted to make sure she could get the hell outta there come Wed! lol

Nice! Hurricane hinders heli helper heading home to hug hound.
