My wife is making her buttermilk pie tomorrow

Last stinkie 10/15/2013
now you're talkin my language. I do like pecan a lot, but buttermilk pie and sweet tater pie are my favorites!

I'm pretty sure that is what I did wrong with my new soft contacts. They did beautifully for 4 days and now. . . back to feeling gritty.
if you put them in inside out, you'd know immediately, you wouldn't be able to see. Likely the same for the wrong eyes unless your eyes are the same. If it's gritty, they may just need a good cleaning, particularly if they're the extended wear that you leave in all the time, or maybe ya just need some re-wetting drops. Sometimes, allergies will cause that feeling too. But how kewl! Been a long time since I've worn contacts, and I really miss them! Hate glasses!!

I made my Bourbon Yams today for Thanksgiving. The yams will soak in bourbon til Thurs and I think I will, too...gonna be a loooong week! I also made Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish. My mom started making it years ago and I love it! It has fresh cranberries, sugar, onions, sour cream and horseradish - it's fabulous!!!
The recipe says grind and freeze it, do you have to freeze it first? I would think not but might be a texture thing that it needs to be cold first. My ex mil made one that I love where you grind together cranberries, walnuts, sugar, and orange zest. I tried it once, but it came out too pureed or something.

I am still not smoking stinkies, even with a stressful few days getting ready for Thankgiving company
Wahooooooooo!! You're doing so great liz!! sorry this is a stressful time, but hang in there hun!!

R2C2 You might have to work up to wearing them all the time again. 1 hour today, 2 hours tomorrow etc. As my prescription got higher and higher I had to start doing that even with soft contacts. What happens is the lenses themselves get thicker. I have reached a point now where I just can't wear them at all. That permanent hair in the eye feeling is intolerable.

Featuring a quick climb to 350', a horse on the move, two stationary cows and pretty leaves changing color. Also a waving lunatic right at the end if your screen is large enough and you don't blink.

Waving back! That was beautiful! Especially the trees. Most of our trees still have their leaves, although the cold snap last night may cause all of them to change instantly. Like the Christmas tree in Charlie Brown's Christmas. Whoosh! I actually had to turn the heat on last night!

My mom always freezes it according to the recipe. I asked her today if it's so you won't eat it all before Thanksgiving...she said yes! I would think if you don't freeze it, the onions and cranberries would release their juices and it would be too watery.

Just wanted to stop by and say a (relative) Newbie Hello to you all. I am still not smoking stinkies, even with a stressful few days getting ready for Thankgiving company. I am having a couple and their 3 kids stay with me for the week.... which is about max capacity for my humble abode when you add me in there :)

So a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you - and I will be back after the holiday of gluttony :) And when asked what I am thankful for, I will say MY vape because without it I would for sure still be smoking cigs.
Good for you, Lizx. Vape on, & enjoy your company!

I was never able to wear soft lens because my eyes were too dry. Turns out dry eye is a symptom of RA. I always wore hard lenses. Loved the Monovision lenses. I had to stop wearing them at all. The dry eye got too bad.

Poor child! :( I just covered my windows with styrofoam insulation. All I have left is a 2x5 peep-hole covered with plexiglass.

I have an eye-muscle imbalance and astigmatism. The best solution for ageing eyes is one with correction for close vision, and one with correction for far vision. However, that discourages my eyes from working together. Eye Dr. nixes that.

Not being a yam man myself (to da dismay of my southern heritage family), I just might be coerced wid da bourbon. It goes wid almost everything, including pecan pie and a soaked fruitcake!

Had a ramp rat buddy o' mine bring down a smoked turkey to da 'office' dis PM. He told da 'no mercy table' (aka liars bench) "get rid of it, throwing out whats left". Well, I rescued 'bout 40% of it and need to strip da carcass here in a bit. Thinkin' of sum smoked turkey croquettes and da rest fer one of my fridge soups.
BTW, saw sumpin' da other day I need to try... deep fried bacon wrapped bread stuffin' balls!

Aww Mary! That has to be like a cave. Our blood is so thin from our usual warm to HOT climate that it doesn't take much to feel like we are freezing. We are in a corner unit with 2 walls facing northish & nothing to block the wind, & the big glass patio door just makes it worse. We turn into big sissies when "winter" arrives. Which is anything below 73. [emoji51]

And boil the carcass to make the stock for it. ;)

Edit: Let me know if anyone is interested and I will write down how I make gumbo when I do it Friday.

Toasty warm cave. In sub-zero weather, the heating system can't keep up without the insulation. Cheap rent.
Been there, done that. I wish we could use our firplace but Mom has enough trouble with COPD. She spent one winter with her sister & I closed off all the rooms d cranked up the fireplace. It was wonderful! If I have to put up with winter I want a fireplace available!
