You know, this organized religion bull crap is a real joke. Seems to me there can be only one God. Period, end of discussion.
The difference in religion is they all worship HIM (or her. I'm easy) in a different way. But it's still one. Not to mention no one has ever seen him. Just his disciples. Whether, Christ, Mohammed, or whatever. Just a different "messiah". There is no "right" way to worship. Just any way works. Just like vaping. Everyone has their own way of satisfying themselves.
And... thot this was one of the *verboten* topics everywhere on earth.

:thumb: I'm with you gary. Years and years ago I left the Catholic church. Way back then their teaching were much too strict and firm for me ... like it was a sin to go into a Jewish Synagog. I just use that for an example there were a bunch of other reasons too. I never stopped being Christen in my beliefs and outlooks but surely no a practicing Catholic. A number of years ago I did re-join the church. Sometimes I feel hypocritical because I still have disagreement with some of its doctrine ... but that's where I find my place to worship now-a-days.

There was some dissent as to whether or not the Pope actually was the one to say this......It doesn't really matter who stated it originally....:)

To those of you who regarded a member's post this morning as an opportunity to mock religions other than your own, let me remind you that ISIS counts on you being a religious bigot and you're behaving exactly as they knew you would. After all, they don't like Muslims either.

Merry Christmas, narrow-minded hypocrites!

Yepper ... I like what's said there ... who ever said it. If my Mom was any more Catholic she'd have been a Nun and I wouldn't be here. OTOH my Dad never stepped into a church except for weddings and funerals. He was one of the best men I knew and I do not believe he's spending eternity in h3ll, which I was taught in my Catholic upbringing.

Off with our heads...

BTW, said member has basically shoved your opinion up your lower portal!

In my opinion it really is a family matter more than anything else. I guess no one else ever has had issues with a family member during the holidays or any other time.

Although Willie and many others may not have directly confronted/challenged you here, I would suggest that you're quite familiar with that family situation and haven't gotten over it. Your vulnerability is all too obvious to the porch majority; not that it matters to you. BUT, it does revel your self-staunch inflexibility and major lack of of any humor other than your own.

I don't know what the details are, do you?

And obviously neither do you (see Classy's post)!

If people have to leave because they can't deal with my opinion, that's a shame, but I'm going to call out narrow-minded hypocrisy when it intrudes on my sense of decency. I put up with a lot of narrow-mindedness without commenting on it until a sufficient amount has accumulated to warrant a strong pushback.

Oh my, a self imposed porch martyr! Shame??? Don't think you have any idea...

The Board of Directors went to all that trouble to make special rules just for me! But hey, they're old and set in their ways.

Goodness, you really must be special. Either that or they finally got tired of your self-pontification. Fortunately, our porches are mostly comprised of loving, down-to-earth and tolerant individuals that come here for enjoyment and camaraderie, not judgement by a self appointed 'god' (gasp...)!

... but yield to those who like to hear their own voices even more than I like to hear my own.

Damnit, sure fooled most of us (OK, I predict that's permission fer ya to rant on)...

Dave,

We do truly appreciate your genial contributions and generosity on da porches. But, why do you need to talk/post down to our fellow porchers and generate controversy?

I'd sure like to know: what's so hilarious about bacon-wrapped kielbasa? In other words, the people joking about it were doing so because they knew most Muslims would not eat it.

And I don't like vinegar!!!

Bells,
being a long time lurker on this thread, it seems you do sometimes comment with a ROAR when a statement of an alternate viewpoint might work. I admit to being ignorant of the Islamic food customs until I just did a search. I hadn't realized the restrictions were similar to that of an observant Jew. Interesting. But, I don't think being unaware of that makes me a hypocrite. My husband's family rotates holidays and that seemed reasonable to me. Having friends who are observant Jews helps me to understand why that isn't quite so easily done in this situation. Add that to what I've learned while on this forum, along with vaping and governmental issues.

FWIW, I was raised Protestant, went to a Quaker college, nearly married a Jewish guy, my sister philosophically considers herself Jewish, my older brother is now a Roman Catholic, my younger was a Jehovah's Witness. While I was in college, my mom got her divinity degree and funny stories came from the seminary about priests, rabbis and ministers. From all of this, the family is a mash up and while we have disagreements, we respect each others beliefs. That carries over to how we regard other faiths, even atheists. :)

Thank you!

Seems to me there can be only one God. Period, end of discussion.

And thank you, Gary!

I couldn't agree more, Gary. There actually is a religious organization that subscribes to those same beliefs, called Unitarian Universalism. My only problem with it is that it's an organized religion. The concept is better left disorganized.

Some people choose to follow more restrictive religious doctrine, attempting to have insurance/assurance because they feel the doctrine MIGHT be right, but the doctrine prescribes penalties for those who choose to follow another doctrine, or no doctrine. I think that's another way of saying the same thing you said.

Old philosophical/religious conundrum: can God make a rock too big for God to lift? I think it's a silly and pointless question but it does have the potential to produce creative thinking, or in my case, creative assessment that it's a silly and pointless question to begin with. My silly and pointless answer to that question is yes, God can make such a rock and then God can lift that rock. Works for me. God does things that are impossible and contradictory all the time.

The Wismec Reuleaux models use removable 18650 batteries. There are other removable-battery TC mods too, as Kenna has said.
You know what I've heard from a guy who is a Ti vaper like I have become and he told me that the Reauleux RX200 vapes every bit as well as the SXM and the DNA200. It may not hit the spot on SS but all the reviews I have seen with the cotton tests and impressions it is a damn good mod and for the money it is a steal. Will let you know going to order 2 tonight. They also have a better fire button and battery sled then the DNA200 model. No tearing up your batteries when you put them in or take them out. He has all of them and is one of the members of the SX thread that really knows his stuff. I believe him. They are actually putting out updates to the firmware and when they finish I think it will give the more expensive mods a run for their money.

I can at least empathize with you. My BIL is trapped in Archie Bunker mode. I hear more n-words and derogatory comments about basically anyone not in his sphere that one would hope were a thing of the past. It's horrible and even one day my MIL said she'd walk out if he continued his rants - and then she did! She passed in Sept. and I don't see us going out to OH to see that side of the family again. It's sad, but it's also a relief.

Wow! Archie Bunker? Thats bad. Don't blame MIL a bit!

People don't kill you if you don't vape the same as them. Just saying.

You know the sad part is that I have no problem with a contrarian or someone who calls it like they see it. My line is rudeness. Name calling dips too far into that rudeness line. There are far better ways to get a point across than falling back to Name calling.

In this case in specific I found myself getting irritated enough to want to say things that would be rude. It has been building for awhile this was just the straw that made me realize it is time to take myself out of the equation.
As long you still love me I'm ok with. Stick around I kinda like you. :D

Feel better now, Iffy? If you (and everybody else on the Porch, by your account) really think there's some specific family situation that I've told you about that I have not dealt with, what kind of friend are you not to have pointed it out to me? Let's keep Dave in the dark?

Your velvet glove is given gravity by my ever-so-slightly more frank statements of written opinion, without which it would be as unnoticed and ignored as my attempts to say two words in succession in the hangout without being interrupted. No, it's not something new that happens only there... I have a lifetime of experience being overrun in that manner but when I need to I can make myself heard. Speaking softly works well for me when I'm talking to myself, but with others it never has worked.

most of the time when i go to the hangouts, i get overtalked/interrupted. it's no big deal. i just figure others have more sensitive mics...

so just deal with it bigballs bigbells... :)

i'm sure i'd really enjoy talking to you some day

So you don't approve of the method I've chosen to deal with it, which is to frequent the hangout much less frequently? You think your method is better for me because it's better for you?

You know I went and watched one of Grimm Greenes vlogs and he went to a survey site that gives the chances of certain bills passing. Well He got to HR2058 I think it is and it is rated as having a 4% chance of passing. He also said that big tobacco has given 14mil to lobbyists this year to squash vaping while vaping has put it a couple a hundred thousand. Hmm wonder who is going to get their way.
