That does look nice!
Some of us still can or preserve foods, if only to keep the art alive
BTW, it's not been an enjoyable past several days re Patty's situation. Ergo, my quest for the positives and my near intolerance for banal complainin'.
May all our Porchers realize their blessings and revel in this Holy Season!
Peace out...
The govt works in mysterious ways. I don't need a new chair tho.
@Iffy I hope you don't mind but I had Ginny put you and Patti on my MIL's prayer chain. Which is several older woman in the Catholic church that will include you and Patti in their prayers every morning and night till something is resolved. Some may not believe in this sort of thing but they have always included me when something is bad enough. I know that something has always helped me, you're a witness to that. The power of prayer seems to always help. So Johnny you and Patti are included. You guys will be in ours also. Best Wishes for you both.
Well I went to the VA yesterday... I don't need a new chair tho.
Positive thoughts sent your Patty's way. Whatever the issue is I'm praying for a speedy resolution. That's probably due to our demand for quick/easy/convenient meals/'fresh' food products. Can't think of any of our regions that one could not get fresh vegs and meats; especially considering our global connections nowadays. Keep in mind dat our parents/grandparents varied their seasonal diets based upon da local seasonal product availability! Ever wonder why our fore-parents canned/salted/pickled/etc.?
How old were ya when ya could first obtain oranges in summer, 'maters/peaches in winter, cherries in early spring and etc.? Most are available year round today.
Correct me if I'm wrong... but we are soooo spoiled and demanding <and vulnerable>!!!
I guess I'm just trying' to remind folk to count their blessings as opposed to biatchin' 'bout their perceived 'slights'.

And that's why I grow as much as possible in my veggie garden. And in summer I buy fresh produce from local farmers. Some of us still can or preserve foods, if only to keep the art alive
4yrs stinky free
That is great customer service, going above and beyond.Yep, and a cold winter night is not the time that you wanted to be reminded.
Several years ago we were out shopping after Christmas and it happened to us in the mall parking lot at 9pm. You would not believe it - we were saved by a O'Reilley Auto Parts guy that had closed up shop and was coming to the mall to pick up something on his way home. The batt was to dead to jump off so he went back to his shop - opened it up and brought the battery back to us. Then we drove over and paid for it...
So many little farm stand have closed, we are fortunate to have a very nice, locally supported, successful farm stand in the little town we live near. We buy all our fresh produce there. Not only save $, but the produce is so much better!
Organic farming is popular around here. Farmer's markets go along with that. The Hmong and Amish both sell a lot.We still have a couple of you pick veggie farms ($10 for a five gallon bucket) - they don't produce the variety that they used to produce, but we do take advantage of what they do produce. Some of the others converted into these online basket order groups - not nearly as cost effective and we have not tried them yet (the middle men involved added a good amount of the cost now)...
Thats why Gin always cans green beans in the summer. I think a lot of the problems have to do with overpoplulation. Theres just too many people to feed and everything has to be mass produced to keep up with demand. So with the demand for more and more the quality goes down from meat to well everything. The population has doubled in not that long. Washington when I grew up was like the wild west but now places like Seattle used to be far away when it was 20miles now Seattle pretty much extends 50 miles in every direction. Me and my mom used to take the greyhound to Seattle to go Christmas shopping and look at the shop displays. The Bon Marche always had the best got to sit on Santi Claus's knee and tell him all the stuff I wanted.Positive thoughts sent your Patty's way. Whatever the issue is I'm praying for a speedy resolution.
BTW, I grew up in Greece and I well remember seasonal foods. It wasn't until I moved to this country that everything seemed to be available year round.

Things I did wrong yesterday, which I knew were wrong when I did them, are still embarrassing today. Unless I put everything I've ever done under the microscope by running for elected office, it doesn't matter whether or not I've been called out on such things publicly, because they're already known to my harshest human critic.OhOh Dustin Hoffman just joined the gropers. Probably every guy that went to a Christmas Party and got a little carried away and has money will make the list now. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it went on but its getting kinda weird lately.
Macaroni and cheese has always had different levels of quality that more or less corresponded with different price points. You can still get good macaroni and cheese but I suggest baking it, using real cheese. The stuff that you used to be able to get 4 boxes of for $1 never was "good" macaroni and cheese, but there was a time when my wallet and my stomach agreed that quantity trumped quality. Nowadays, my stomach cannot be convinced that it's my last dollar. So just for the heck of it I picked up a box, first thing it wasn't mac it was minions, then instead of adding 1/4 cup milk and same butter now you add 1/2tblsp butter, 3tblsp of milk, the minions turned into goo and the whole thing tasted like you know what. The name of the game now cut corners charge more and lousy product.
Yep we were just talking about it yesterday, foodwise nothing is like it used to be from meat to veggies to fruit. Forget canned goods and any other product its all crap anymore. Stuff like meat the animals are raised like a manufacturing plant and they taste like it. You think of something that sounds good and its alway a let down.
Thank you, @Iffy. You saved me from exercising a need that I was feeling to pile on.How old were ya when ya could first obtain oranges in summer, 'maters/peaches in winter, cherries in early spring and etc.? Most are available year round today.
