If the vision issues started when she started chemo, then just wait until the effects wear off. Her vision will continue to change until then.

Yeah that is what we were thinking also but if she can't stop them then what. We don't know everything yet. When I heard that guy say he had 114 of them started to make me wonder. How long will Medicare keep paying for them. Especially if they get their cuts to Medicare funding.

I put one of these in and under the kitchen sink some years back, the three filter model.

Under Counter Water Filters, under sink filter

After having used the PUR throw-aways for quite a while. (While we don't have any iron, you can pick filters for that as well.) The filters last us several years, vs the month or so on the PUR. The provided tap runs water as fast as a 1/4" pipe will deliver it, not a slow drip.
Thats a good idea also David. When I get the plumber over here I'll ask him about that. He has to live with the same water. Need to get him in and look over things, want him to install a new dishwasher, toilet, kitchen faucet. Need to get him in to find out why our kitchen sink is draining kinda slow and we get the smell of sewer gas on occasions there also. I'm beginning to think we need to get our septic tank pumped. We were doing it every 2 years but last time he said that since Alyssa wasn't living here any more we should be able to go 3. Well it's been 2 and we are occasionally getting that smell. So maybe we need that again. Another $400 down the toilet.

Yeah, if you're getting odors from the sinks there's something not right... but even 3 years seems quite often for pumping. "Engineered" system? Ours is one of the last gravity / drain field ones before local laws changed, and so far, 25 years, no pump and no problems. Then again, ours was sized (per code) for our 3 bedroom house, and there's really only been the two of us, so much bigger than we need.

We really like the convenience of just going to the sink and drawing a glass / pitcher / pan of filtered water. No need to have a pitcher in the fridge, or wait for the PUR to drip one full. :)

Salt mixed with water and sprayed on the unwanted growth does a marvelous job. Add a little dishwashing soap for adhesion. Once or twice a year will do it.
Yep! I use Epsom Salts and white vinegar to the mix along with Dawn in a one gallon spray bottle.

We replaced our old one with a three filter model just recently, and what a difference. We have a dedicated line to the fridge and was beginning to notice a funky taste, and since the plumber installed the 3 filter model, we're once again enjoying the taste of water.

Have any of you gotten a message on your cell phones to reaffirm your account with IDK who. I just delete them don't open it at all. it of course offers a way to get to it by pressing the spot on the phone. Been getting a lot of weird messages like that. I usually delete and block and later something else comes up. Ginny got one, same one on her phone.

Good morning all

Legs I've been wanting to xeriscape for a very long time, but simply haven't done it in the front lawn.
I did have it in the back and it was beautiful, but was eventually covered over with grass so now we just have it mowed by our lawn guy. We have definitely cut out a lot of the work we used to do. I miss it, but we do what we can!
I didn't know there was a word for it. I can imagine it's hard to do in Florida with the humidity and the amounts of rain that you can get. Our humidity rarely gets above 30% and our ground is just really sandy. I would think it would work great here. Our humidity today is pretty high 41% but lately we've had it down to 10%. Not sure about winter. Not as dry as AZ by a long shot tho. We got a slight break yesterday but 84 today and up to 100 on Wed and Thurs. Hazy everyday but at least the smoke is staying high not down where we have to breath it.

Yeah, the single filters are generally just activated charcoal. Good for taking out big impurities, maybe chlorine. Toss in another two for other stuff, and the water becomes really tasty :) And the second / third ones can be customized to your water conditions, so it's not "one size fits most."

I thought so too. It's weird when we were on the other side the place we had built we were there for over 10 years and never had a problem but over here, not sure why, but 2 years for a family and 3 for a couple seems to be about it. It's a 1000 gal 2 compartment tank and what ever was sufficient in 78 for a drainfield but when we had it pumped at 2 years it was full and getting packed which is no good. Of course now if you screw up your drainfield by letting your tank get too full you have to go with a mound system. I don't know if it's because for the drainage or what.

Actually zeriscaping here in Florida is officially called 'Florida Friendly Landscaping'.
Plants that require very little or no care at all include desert cassia, firebushes and bird of paradise, tibuchina, along with a host of many others which are great candidates for xeriscaping or FFL.
All of these plants rely on Mother Nature for water, and some even freeze back, but usually come back from the base. I pay little attention to these other than to admire their beauty, but may prune from time to time.

I have all of these, just not in zeriscape pattern , but scattered throughout our property
Here in Florida, we need to make use of the best native plants!

Update on my TV and Internet adventures:

Despite the fact that CenturyLink says 25 Mbps speed is available at my location, it is not. 10 Mbps is the fastest available service.

Even if I was getting a full 10 Mbps, which I'm not, that is not fast enough to support HD streaming with any kind of reliability. So, I'm going to end my experiment with DirecTv Now when my current paid month ends, and I have Dish TV coming to do an installation on Wednesday. It will be the first time I've tried Dish satellite, having had DirecTv satellite for about 25 years.

When lightning knocked out the internet connections for me and several neighbors on Wednesday, it gave me the opportunity to figure out how to use the mobile data connection on my cell phone. It's actually a faster and better connection than my DSL service, but Cricket limits the bandwidth so that it does not stream in HD.

We have well water as do most people around here (we live in a rural area) unless they live in town and have city water. Well water is hard so that it doesn't rinse off your body or the dishes or anything else and it will deposit minerals in the pipes and faucets and the laundry. So most people have a water softening system.

The only problem with that is that it uses salt so I can't use it for water my gardens. I have to draw it directly from the well.

You know I just can't wrap my head around the way people are buying houses on your side David. They found one that by the pics looks nice, but they are talking about buying it sight unseen offering $5K over the asking price to be sure they get it. It just blows my mind, I wouldn't even buy a cheap thing (comparatively) sight unseen let alone offering more then the asking price and that might not be enough. It's just crazy to me to spend $280,000 without actually seeing it myself. Gdaughter said that's the way they have to do it now days. They want to have a place when they get there but is just beyond my comprehension to buy a house that way.

That sounds nice. My brother when he was alive lived in Lk Havasu AZ and had white rock for a yard and the plants he had would stand up to the heat. He had a type of watering system called bubblers and most of his plants were hanging and he had a bunch of big plants, can't remember the name but I believe part of the plant is poisonous. Lots of them there. On the other side of the hill they grow huge Rhodies my MIL has all kinds of plants and she said she had enough Marionberries for an army this year. Her peach and plum trees are always loaded they have to prop up the limbs. Luckily she has lots of kids to help too. Well not kids so much 50+ years old.

Yep when they put ours in before we bought it he just has it piped to the hot side not the cold. So if you want soft water it has to be hot. I had the cold tested and it seems like he said it had 11 grains of hardness but the hot had close to 0.. If my memory is right, which is a big if.

Sheesh I asked my Gdaughter if they could afford that kind of a house and she told me now he gets a $1300 a month allotment for housing which is what they pay for rent in El Paso but up here on the other side of the mountains he gets $1850 which will cover a house payment on that size house, so I guess things are a little different then when I was in back in the prehistoric times. She said they can get by on just what he makes if need be. I was a little worried but they have absolutely no debt so they can do just fine. Pheww I'm glad of that.

@Flowersoul you mentioned several of the plants I wish would do well up here but they don't. Except for firebushes. They get root killed when it gets beLow freezing but come back. And I have a bird of paradise but in a pot…I have to put it in the greenhouse when it gets below 50 at night so it usually spends about 3 months there.

My flower beds are about 75% native wildflowers. They take care of themselves.

I don't have fast internet, but for some reason my water, which comes from my narrow (6") bore well drilled hundreds of feet down, into rock, has water that's both delicious and soft. General hardness and carbonate hardness are both quite low. People who drink the water from my well invariably remark on how tasty it is.

My septic system is a pump system because there isn't a big enough spot of level land where my house is located. The tank contents are pumped uphill to a rare level spot on my property, where, if I recall correctly, there are 3 lines that are each 75 feet long. But I'm with Legs, in that there's no assurance that I'm remembering correctly... maybe it's 3 lines that are each 25 feet long for a total of 75 feet... heck, I ain't no septic system expert.

We have well/septic. We do have a water softener and several filters throughout the system. Our well extends to the underground springs that come aground in the nearby Rainbow River, so really pretty clear. We put in a drip irrigation system for garden areas and a sprinkler system for the yard, which come straight from the well before the softner. We have been working on getting the native centipede grass to take over grass areas, which is great because it really doesn't need to be mowed. When it starts to creep into areas we don't want it, I dig up plugs to put places I do want it. The centipede is slowly filling in the grass areas, and I will eventually be resorting to weed killer (the salt/vinegar seems to work well) in areas we don't want it.

Our mobile is a 4 bedroom, so a big septic system in the front. I put septic stuff in monthly, but with only 2 of us and not always home, it should last a long time. I will say, the grass is greener (and grows taller) over the septic tank!

That is definitely true. I'll try to remember to take an illustrative picture.

Centipede is neat. So is St Augustine. My lawn is 100% Laissez Faire.

FYI: For those who might be still interested . . .

An Inexpensive Water Filter (AKA: Poor man's water filter) for the kitchen sink that anyone can use daily is a Refrigerator Water Filter (normally for an Ice Maker) connect to a Kitchen Drinking Water Faucet . . . Cost me just under $100.00 for all the parts and installation by handyman . . . Works really well and the filters do not cost a lot (usually about $20) when it comes time to change them (about every 3 - 5 years depending how often you need clean water) . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)
