Man this mumps is a big thing here. It went from 80 confirmed cases to 90 just while the news was on. Some people are up in arms about their kids not being allowed in school for a month. They signed a form allowing it so they could keep from immunizing their kids.

In case anyone is interested. Tomorrow is my 6 month anniversary off of the stinkies! I'm super proud. After over 22 years of smoking I can say with certainty I'll never go back!

Welcome to the porch. And a big CONGRATS on your 6 month mark.

Well back at home in Kuwait safe and sound and wearing his buddies glasses. Opening his Christmas presents.

Nice to have him someplace relatively safe.

Worrisome. He pushed himself so hard getting ready for the move. Then the move, and working on the new place.

The man's a regular bull when it comes to doing the hard physical stuff...I sure hope he didn't overdo it!!!!

I thought mumps was something that was just something we used to get cause there was no vaccine for it. I had em. I remember well. Not fun.

Me too Legs...most all the childhood illnesses cuz there were no vaccines WAY back then!

That's my worry. He worked so hard, posted seldom and when he did, he sounded so determined but tired. I hope he's OK..:|:(

Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't you get an invite?

Besides, I filled phlupfpfed 'em myselph... <Thanx to Diver's menu! BTW, he fergot to mention da delicious baked beans, boiled eggs and beer...>
No beer, the Doctor had me give that up many years ago. I did open a jar of Pickled Quail Eggs.

We are watching The Quiet Man in HD no less. Man they did a good job remastering this. You'd never know it was made 65 years ago.
I really enjoy that movie. I had a friend get it for me on DVD, I love John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

Error in time.
In the military, we celebrated Holidays when we could. Had Christmas in July, birthdays six months late, had some civilian friends that didn't understand. Toddlers don't care and older kids enjoyed being different. One of the times I was operating in the Indian Ocean, I got a care package from my Mom. It had a jar of her homemade Pear Preserves and a big bag of shelled pecans from the pecan trees on her farm. I talked to the head baker and he made a batch of biscuits for me. The senior corpsman and I made pigs of ourselves for breakfast that morning. I also talked him into making me two pecan pies for my troops. He looked at me and said, "Chief I can make a lot more than two pies with this amount of pecans. I told him to make a few for the Officers Mess and for himself. I lost count of the number of officers and air-wing pilots that dropped by my shack to thank me for the pecan pies. Care packages from home are always best when shared with friends. When my wife was stationed in Kuwait during Desert Storm, we sent T-shirts to each other. The one I sent her had my aftershave lotion on it and hers had her favorite perfume on it. Using them as a pillow cover helped being separated from her when I went to bed and vice-versa.

Oh, I remember having the mumps as a child. It was SO painful and everything I ate tasted just terrible! It was commonplace back then.

I remember my older brother teasing me that I looked like "Lumpjaw" which was a Disney character we watched on cartoons back then.
Anyone else remember good old LUMPJAW?
