Oh, I remember having the mumps as a child. It was SO painful and everything I ate tasted just terrible! It was commonplace back then.

I remember my older brother teasing me that I looked like "Lumpjaw" which was a Disney character we watched on cartoons back then.
Anyone else remember good old LUMPJAW?

When my wife was stationed in Kuwait during Desert Storm, we sent T-shirts to each other. The one I sent her had my aftershave lotion on it and hers had her favorite perfume on it. Using them as a pillow cover helped being separated from her when I went to bed and vice-versa.
Where was she?

I don't remember what I had twice you weren't supposed to get once you had it, but I really think it was mumps. I always had bad, huge tonsils. Got mono (working in a restaurant) when I was a very young 20 something and they finally removed the buggars. Thought they would have to remove my spleen too but it's still intact. It was hades, but all those physical problems went away.

Oh, chicken pox! I had that, and as a follow up fifty years later I also had an agonizing case of shingles. The gift that can always keep on giving.

By the way, if you've seen shingles but never had it, it doesn't itch; it hurts like hades (to use clnire's word).

Oh, got one fur xmas. Never even opened da box. Sent it back. Seems had one on my wish list for reference. The lil woman got me one. I think mine was like $300 but she said she got one better. Dunno.
Thing is, unless you have a 3d scanner where you could scan a part to the software program and then have the printer print it... knot reddy fur prime time for me. But obviously YMMV. :)
But, you can design your own or get a copy of a design online, right?

What can and can't that cheap printer do, compared to a bigger, more expensive one?

Design your own? Sure. Get a design on line? Sure. But you would go thru, um... hades to create a design to replace a part you may need. To me they would be useful to create part replacements. Maybe a keyboard key. Or leg for a keyboard. But creating the software for that part would be a monumental challenge since it would have to be precise measurements.

Where was she?
She was mostly in Saudi. She never said where exactly other to say the were located at the end of pier doing harbor surveillance. She once wrote in a letter, one to me and another to her two sons, that we had nothing to worry about. Because there were 70 thousand marines behind them. We wrote her telling her we would feel a lot better if the marines were in front of her. Sometimes she could be a bit too literal in her letters. She did get to go to Kuwait on liberty a couple times.

if you make your own, or even get it from thingaverse, you have to do a bit of tweeking with CURA, which is a program to make the file ready for the printer. They have several models already set up on their sharing site though, so you can start printing right away.
It's a beginner's printer, so it's not a pretty as a more expensive one. It has a smaller build volume, is made of plastic, and does not have a heated bed.

great for your kids, or for beginners to the 3D print world.

On Monday I was out shopping getting a few needed groceries. There was a display with some really nice looking Jalapeno peppers. Knowing the temperature on Tuesday was going to be 70° I picked up a few of the peppers and a couple packs of ribs. Yesterday I spent the time outside with 4 racks of ribs in the smoker along with the Jalapeno poppers my daughter prepared. They were wrapped with bacon and filled with a mixture of cream cheese and shredded 4 cheese Mexican blend. While watching the smoker I binge watched Star Wars IV, V, and VI. The ribs turned out wonderful with the meat falling off the bone and the poppers were excellent. I used my Food Saver to package up 3 of racks for the freezer. I always trim the ribs and while they are smoking, I also smoke the trimmings. Of course, the bits and pieces get finished well before the ribs. I have to sample the bits and pieces, so when everything is done I am not all that hungry. The ribs will be heated up for tonight's dinner along with a couple of the poppers. I love the leftovers, nothing goes to waste.
oh that sounds good enough to just about walk to OK for! Enjoy! and uhmmm........I didn't git my invite either! :p

RIP Mary Tyler Moore. :(

that makes me so sad. I always loved her show and adore the dick van .... show. I'm so glad that Valerie Harper is still going strong, and has come through all she has, but some years back no one would have thought that she would outlive Mary. Just goes to show no matter what health crises you face, and no matter how dire it seems, it is never ever hopeless!! I was watching something the other day that Carol Burnett voiced a character in, and was wondering how long we'd have her. I hope for a good long time to come.

Ain't that the truth. Around here, if'n you ain't the jokER, you may just end up the jokEE...

Love that photo! So glad he's back in Kuwait. How long now til he's CONUS? Glad his prezzies didn't wander off before he got em!

Man this mumps is a big thing here. It went from 80 confirmed cases to 90 just while the news was on. Some people are up in arms about their kids not being allowed in school for a month. They signed a form allowing it so they could keep from immunizing their kids.
Wow, I haven't seen much news for a very long time. Didn't realize y'all were having a mumps outbreak. Between that and the ice and snow, great time for you and yur new ankles to hibernate for awhile!

Care packages from home are always best when shared with friends.
JUP! When my son was deployed, I'd found a snack bar at walmart. 10 in a box for 1.00 sent him a box. He loved them and said he could eat 100 of em. So I sent him 100 of em! He was wrong. He and his friends together couldn't eat that many of em. There were still a few in one of his tuff boxes when it arrived home.
