Again. If the addon is designed solely to circumvent copyright laws, no, you cannot mention them. If the addon is designed primarily for public domain content, then yes, you can mention it but can not mention how to obtain content that is still covered under copyright laws.

Cross talk between the "Cut the Cable" thread and here ..

And, Pat, with all due respect .. well, you know what I mean ..
So Patrick goaded the mods into responding on this thread? That's so unlike the Patrick that I know. Oh, wait... no it's not.

In all the years I was an Admin on one of the largest Audio/Video Forums .. I don't recall issuing directives on a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread in question .. most folks here don't even know what you're talking about ..

On the other hand, you are absolutely right, most all the Forums dedicated to legit Audio/Video discussion will give a User the boot tout suite after one warning and another subsequent infraction ..

On another site that I've been an Admin on for over 16 years, we had a case where an author contacted us about a user who was using copying their content prolifically. The individual was immediately banned and all content that he had posted was deleted. This was the only thing we could have done without being hauled into court.

I'd probably recommend the same thing here on ECF if something similar were to happen.

Yeah, I know how it works .. I was part of the Recording Industry for the better part of my life .. ;)

And, I always side with the folks that create the content .. they deserve to be paid for what they do .. I don't care what the Law says one way or the other .. you take and use / listen / watch anything that is not in the Public Domain for free, you're stealing it .. it's simple as that .. regardless of the law ..

EDIT :: that said, I will not claim that I am Guilt Free ..

"Oh wait am I breaking any copyright laws mentioning that." ..

That's a poke, and you know it .. sorry, bro, but it is what it is ..
Yes it was but it got some explanations of what was expected. And if they are talking about addons that use torrent and not addons that don't. IDK what addons use public domain and which don't or if there are any. I'm trying to understand what is allowed on FB is not allowed here right? Very confusing to me, better not to mention anything here and start a FB group.

I don't know if it's necessary to take it to FB .. all that's being asked here is keep it to the legit use of KODI .. and KODI as an app is legit .. I use it to organize my own stuff .. music server / etc .. it's a great, free app .. nothing wrong with that at all .. even the KODI development team disassociates themselves from anything other than what the app was designed for ..

OK but the addons are legit too right or are they not? I know of only one addon I have that uses torrents and I never use it but its there. And how do you get the music that you organize there? Is there an addon for organizing music. I know I used to get music using an app that I'm sure it still available and I've considered a payed subscription to Pandora so you can get the individual songs you want to hear and put them in you playlist. but there are also a bunch of others. I suppose you can use Itunes which I know is legal right?

I rip CD's / DVD's and BluRays that I bought and paid for .. thusly, on my Media Center PC, I have all my stuff organized and at my fingertips .. I also link to streaming sites I actually subscribe to, such as Netflix / Spotify / VUDU, etc ..

Addons in and of themselves, become de facto theft apps when used, because that is their only purpose in life ..
