OK, need a lil' help from da porch 'hive mind'...

I finally broke down and got Amazon Prime ('bout day-um time). Now... how do I take advantage of all da techie/entertainment benefits?

Being da Luddite I am, no, I do not have any wi-fi/smart TVs/phones. Am willing to purchase a 'magic box' or two to take advantage of my AP...

Do you have a TV that can connect to WiFi or your cable? I didn't need to purchase a box to connect mine and get movies & TV shows that they offer. I could probably do music through it too but I haven't tried that.

Edit: oops.. never mind.. just realized you said you don't have a smart TV either.. d'oh.

I'm not going to claim any techie knowledge, but... Go to amazon....click on your account and it will drop down a list....prime music and prime video will be on that list. There is also a Prime button next to your account on the top of the page....it will give you some info as a start. I have a router for wifi and use that for my kindle, but it's not needed for anything else I have. You can stream directly to your computer....

2x iPhones, 2x Mac Books, 1x iPad, 1x Time Machine, 1x Apple TV ... and they all seamlessly 'talk/interface' with each other without me having to be a techie expert. I'll pay the price.
I hear ya, bro. Use wut werks for you. But thing is, I have programs from the 80's that STILL run on windows. (yeah, DOS based) Not gonna happen on the mac. I remember seeing that a program has an update. But can't install it until u upgrade the OS. And... not a free upgrade.
And yes, u can blue screen a mac. Only it doesn't blue screen. Just sez something like "no idea wut u did but it was a doozy!" Reboot. Oh, wait. Can't. Have to shut off the power button cuz itz totally hung.
Yup the interfacing is great between my iPads and iphone! And actually there are hundreds more free apps for Apple products than for androids.

But PC-wise I still have a Windows-based PC because all my apps are for Windows and I cant afford to replace them, especially my Photoshop app.

Get a Roku. They sell them at Costco or Best buy. If you have 4K UHD then you want the Roku 4 if you have regular HD the Roku 3 will do nicely. You can use it to get Netflix, Amazon, You Tube paired with your computer, Pandora, HBO Go if you have HBO on your TV which ever you use cable or sattelite, Roku will let you get nearly any online channel you want and the remote has a plug for headphones if you want to watch TV silently. Also for 4K UHD you need at least 25gbs on your wifi and you can hook it up wirelessly or using the wire whichever you want. They are about $80 for the 3 and $120 for the 4.

I like my coffee and in the summer I like to have iced coffee. I got hooked on the instant iced coffee from Starbucks. Well, I came across a recipe for making Cold Brewed Coffee. I had never heard of it so did a search for making Cold Brewed Coffee. I have a glass jug in my refrigerator that I am going to steep for 24 hours. The way I fixed this one was using 1/2 cup of course ground coffee beans and 1 1/2 cups of cold water. I will let the coffee fiends 'er friends know how it turns out.

You'll love cold brewed coffee! You don't really need to let it sit 24 hours. Overnight is just fine. There's a million recipes, you just have to adjust until it tastes the way you like it. No bitterness at all, just lovely coffee flavor. The only problem is that it does use a lot of coffee and the coffee needs to be a coarser grind or you'll have a fine sludge in the bottom of your cup.

And Amazon has all kinds of other subscriptions you can get like AMC, Showtime, Amazon Music, Photos tons of stuff all available. The use of the Roku is also free but you have to buy the box. One of the best rated. It is excellent we have 2.
All that (and more) is already on kodi.
And free.
Australian tv is kinda interesting. :)

Hmm....I thought the question was how to access and use the free videos and music available with Prime. Kodi, roku and HDMI aren't needed for that....
Yabutt, prime is not needed either. ;)
Thing is i have US prime. Had it for years. What do I get here. Not a flippin thing!!! :(

Others have suggested a ROKU, and that will work just fine. The newer ROKU devices only have video or HDMI output, so make sure which connection your TV uses.
Then again... I have a Visio TV with Chrome cast. You can use the chrome browser extention to cast from the PC to the TV.
You may have a TV that comes with apps, in which case, you can get the Amazon app for your TV. The TV would have to be able to connect to your WIFI, so if it cannot, then back to ROKU.
AMAZON also sells
If your TV has a USB port, you could get an Amazon Fire stick as well. It costs about $40
ROKU about the same for the ROKU Express... but the site no longer sells the versions 1234. And to get the ROKU 3 in a store, or Amazon, is just under $90.
Depends on what you want to spend and what you have... Most streaming devices use USB or HDMI connections, so if you have a really old TV, better check Costo or Sam's club.

I don't have transportation, so most of my shopping is done online. Two day shipping and free shipping on returns make a difference to me. I don't buy everything on Amazon. I do a lot of cross referencing and checking on other sites. I go with who has the best price that includes shipping and who has the best return policies. For example.....I returned something by dropping it at a UPS store this afternoon. Amazon has already returned the money to my account.

Amazon keeps coming out with new things hat are available with Prime but one thing you have to watch with them is if you get into some of the series you'll get through 4 or 5 seasons and season 6 costs you extra. One thing I don't like about Amazon plus some of the movies available are for rent or you have to buy a subscription to another channel to watch it or pay $3.99

I see that now Ken and Costco online only has Roku TV's Best Buy still has the Roku 3 or 4 or 4 Ultra so you'll have to figure out what is going to work for you. Our DS is a 3 US is a 2 so far each upgrade is better then the previous but there is a lot of new stuff out there. I wondered what that cast feature did in Chrome now I know thank Ken. Oh and if you like HBO most smart tvs didn't get HBO Go except for Samsung don't know if that is still the way it is. HBO Go is really cool because you can watch anything on HBO when you want.
