Good afternoon everybody. I missed morning. Slept in knowing for the next three days I'll be babysitting grandchildren while Mama goes to visit Oma in hospice in GA. I'm glad to be able to do it for her, but need your prayers to get through it. I've had them for a day and overnight, but never three in a row.
After I called the forest ranger this morning, got his email address and sent links to the videos I took, he responded as follows:

LOL! I find that amusing (the thread not a particular post)because my wife and I just got back from her 3yr post colon cancer colonoscopy! That has a lot to do with why I haven't been online as much the last few years, I used to be pretty active on ecf but we had a bit of a medical adventure that kept us occupied for awhile. She is doing well now and her scope was perfect.

"Real Life" dontyaknow...........After backtracking a bit (Okay, a whole lot) it's a bummer that all those trees are getting wiped out but if it's those folks property, I doubt they are in violation of anything (given the proper permits, etc.). It does look like they're getting a little TOO close to the creek though. I don't know if it's nationwide but there is a 50 or 100 foot "set back" "up here" to protect the stream/river banks from erosion and run off from say, oh I don't know, PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS from the crop fields

The thing is that I haven't a clue about whether the operation is legal. The rules are complicated, spread across multiple agencies at different levels, and I've had no reason to study up on them. Anyway, I don't expect it to be long before I find out, since I've developed a good rapport with the person who I notified of the clearing that was taking place.LOL! Well, it doesn't help that I can't actually see your videos.
Either way, I was just funnin' ya, Bells... if it is as I suspect, I'd rat people out for illegal logging, myself.
It's all good... you relieved the pressure of me waiting and waiting for someone to call me a tattler.

Okay, reporting in!
We got the veggies in the ground two weeks ago.
Then, this Friday night, around 10 p.m., two young bull Moose showed up and started munching their way around the house!
I had to go run them off before they got into the garden! (I would have included photos but apparently I'll have to "resize" them first.) At any rate, they weren't too happy that they couldn't munch the garden.
Since getting the starts in the ground, the weather hasn't been all that great. Mid 40's to mid 50's during the day, mostly cloudy and then down as low as 24 degrees this morning! No frost though and the bed is right up against the house so I think they're doing OK. They look fine now that it's a little over 40 F. and sunny.

Okay, I did a resize on the Moose pics. They aren't the best. We have a "basic" digital camera and the "Big Brother" was right at the bed room window in the first two shots. The "Baby Brother was just trotting off in the last one but there is one good pic of "Big Brother" standing out in the yard where I chased him off to. I hope they load OK this time..............
The last photo reminds me of the line from the song "Uneasy Rider".

The younger (last) Moose is the one that was with "Mom" in the earlier photos. I don't know where he found his "buddy". It may be his brother from last year but that's just a guess.........

Although I don't really consider myself a Tree Hugger, I would lean toward inquiring with the Authorities on anything I might suspect as being, er, suspicious as it relates to the Environment .. so Kudos to you for taking the initiative on something many would ignore and choose to not get involved with ..
I will ask a question based on your Tattler comment, however .. If, during any of your flights, you spotted what you might consider illegal activity, is there a line drawn on what may or may not cause reporting .. ?? Is there an unwritten code within the ranks of the Drone Operation Community .. ?? (DOC) .. Just curious as to your thoughts ..

There's definitely one illegal activity that I'd report, which would be someone shooting at my drone! Other than that, the only things I'd definitely report would be felony-level violence or a Republican trespassing on my property. (Just kidding about that last one, but for some reason my drone turns more smoothly to the left than it does to the right.)
A good while back, I read about a case where someone using a drone spotted illegal farming operations of some kind; I think it was the draining of hog waste into a river or stream. The offending party argued that the evidence was obtained via means which he had not authorized. The ruling, though, allowed the evidence to be presented because the drone operator was not violating any rules, the purpose of the drone flight was recreational, and the discovery of the illegal activity was simply coincidental.
Well, I just heard back from the county ranger. He again thanked me for my report, and said:
He would not have known of the logging operation if I hadn't reported it and that he wanted to know about it.
He intends to continue keeping an eye on it since it appears to be an "in progress" operation.
The operation appeared to be sloppy, but not illegally sloppy, and was not in current violation of any rules or laws.
All of which leaves me more inclined to let somebody do some logging on my own property, for sound environmental reasons of course, like giving me more open space to fly my drone and to remove the trees that are starting to interfere more and more often with my DirecTv satellite reception.
