@oldbroad I found it. I mentioned at the Odyssey that someplace in the house was an Elvis pen our daughter bought during a visit to Graceland. She doesn't want it so if you do, PM me a mailing address and it'll be on the way. It actually has a serial#, not like it's a limited edition though. The number is 17939.

I have come to love the farm report....

Oh my, flashbacks to several trans-continental reassignment treks wid nuttin' but miles & miles of nuttin' but miles & miles wid only gospel, pork belly futures and da next pot luck supper at da Grange. Coast-to-Coast AM (Art Bell) and an occasional WLS 'skip' were 'bout da only relief 'out yonder'!

Damn you got nice legs Iffy.

Well, thanx

From the "Morning Musing on a Rainy Wednesday in Flyover Country" File ::

I read an op-ed piece as I had my first cup this AM, who's premise was the Web is the most democratizing, field leveling invention since the printing press ..

The internet connects to many people from many cultures that are different than our own. The potential for sharing of ideas is tremendous .. then, I thought about it for a moment ..

In practice, it doesn't work that way at all. Social Networking and targeted content has removed any possibility of that by effectively ensuring we never have to communicate with anyone we disagree with or hear any contrary or dissenting voices. In effect, we've gone beyond the old AOL corporate walled garden and now have the ability to create our own personal walls.
You know, Willie, I've thought about this for a bit now, and in a sense, I have to agree with you. However, me, personally am not the type who gives a whit about being politically correct and not trying to hurt anybody's feelings. Don't get me wrong, I don't set out to hurt anybody's feelings, but I will try to speak my mind in a diplomatic fashion. It doesn't always work that way, but I do try.

As for social media, I do have a Facebook page, which is mainly to keep up with what is going on with my son and his little family who are over 14 hours of travel from me. It's the only place I can get pictures of my grand girls because they sure don't send me any. ANYWAY, with that being said, I will NOT post my personal business on Facebook. I do however post stupid stuff designed to make people laugh. However, I don't post often.

I do notice that some of my "friends" post stuff that I don't agree with, but if it's an issue that I really don't care about, I'm not going to comment.............mostly lately because I just don't have the time or energy to get into any dumb .... debates. Anyway..........I'm rambling now..........

"We got the bubble headed
Bleached blonde
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash
With a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die
Give us dirty laundry"

I love that snide, insidious organ intro .. ;)

Love, LOVE, LOVE that song. When I first heard it, I really laughed because it's so doggone true!!

First a lil' background... a while ago, pre-Odyssey, I promised Roto dat I'd sit on her lap and lick her face, AKA 'lap lap' (ol' earlier feline reference) when she got to da Tiki House. Well, unfortunately Debra couldn't make da PO.

Therefore, Kay, being da grand sport she is, volunteered to take her place...

OP-6a_zpsrwesqady.png

Ummm, now dat I think 'bout it, maybe dat's why Debra didn't show...
bad-idea.gif
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAhaha..............NO, that's NOT why I didn't show. They're right, though....Nice legs!!

Everyone talks about saying no and I fully realize how hard it can be. One of the hardest things I ever learned and I'm still not very good at it. One thing I do is what everyone is recommending, don't answer the phone at all. :)
Well, tonight is my last night on hitch, and I am going HOME!! And, I keeping my crazy self there for the whole 7 days!! Well, I might go try to talk my brother into barbecuing, but other than that.........I'm chilling

I'm doimg fine thanks. Doree and I are working very hard to finish up all the things we need to to move. We are in the punch list mode now with all major stuff done to the house. Just contracted to have the three bedrooms carpeted and we're done with everything except the garage/workshop and the RV. Still waffling over selling it. It needs quite a bit of work before it will be ready to sell and I truly believe that if we get rid of it I will never get another. It's just not in the financial cards when I truly retire which is about 6 years away. :)
Downsizing is never easy. And such a big move on top of it, too. Don't break youselves!

I have a downer to post but I am pretty upset. My 93 yr old Mother-in-law, who has been living in an independent living apartment for 2 years, a real go getter, don't mess with me, kind of woman who I have admired since I first met her, fell a few weeks ago. She just had eye surgery and had "floaters", one of which she thought was a bug and in trying to stomp on it, fell. Xrays showed nothing, they said she had siatica and to rest. Well, it didn't get better and she is basically alone;she doesn't socialize with others in the facility. She does not like "old people" (they die on her) and being the only Jew in the place, it was hard (DH and I were not involved in the decision to move her there, long story and this is long enough already).

Not getting better, the brother who lives near by took her back to the Dr. They did an MRI, found fractures in her pelvis. She got a rehab nurse, but being diabetic, was not eating or drinking. She was hospitalized yesterday to get her back in shape, then to rehab and then assisted living.

I am sure you all know where this will go. I have never heard of a person this age bouncing back to health from something like this. So how long? Who knows. From the vibrant, outgoing, strong woman I love, to a withering sad woman I still dearly love. We will spend as much time as we can with her, but with work and travel it is hard.

Sorry for a long downer post, but I needed to vent and I don't know of a better place than with my compassionate, loving friends.

On a good note, Geordi's breeder is a nurse at the hospital she is in, so she will check on MIL and keep us posted on any details we may miss. Chris is an ER nurse so not privy to everything, but she knows people who are.

I has a sad :(:cry::(
Praying, Cathy. This was hard to read, Sweetie, I'm trying to keep my Mom with me as long as possible, but if she decides to be any more feeble than she is now, I don"t know that I can keep it up.

Hi Porchers,

Have been in a whirlwind of 'busyness' in the last few weeks since the Odyssey, so am lagging way behind on what's happening with the Porchers.

We have another trip planned to Philly the end of the month, so we're getting ready for that.....no time to do anything extra right now, not even my gardening!! Now, that's a bummer!
Our cuz left yesterday after a month's stay, and it was, as usual, a wonderful visit.

Popped in the H/O a couple of times and said a quick 'yo' but time constraints didn't allow me to stay.

So, I apologize for not being able to post personals, but it is what it is!

Anyway, all this to say that I think of you all often and I'll check in when I can while away!

Luv you all!!! :) :)
Have a safe trip!

Cook? Yeah, no. He can microwave his lunch, which is usually leftovers, and is quite proud of himself for it. When I go away, he heats up homemade boil-in-bag stuff. That vacuum sealing gizmo was prolly the best gadget I ever bought! OTH, he's very good at getting takeout when I'm sick. I think I'll keep him; I love that man to the moon and back.

My wife's take on the moon and back was she found a placard for me that said "I love you to the moon and back." It is in reference to this famous saying:

My wife used to say this too me, and one day I said "Is it a round trip?"

For me and people like me the internet is a total Godsend. With my level of social anxiety I would never interact with another human (besides the hubby) and probably never leave the house either if I didn't have the net to keep me plugged in with people.

The net gives me just enough of a safety net that I can meet and talk to people without instant panic attacks. Forums are easier of course but you guys have got me to show up in the hangout once in awhile. Hangout is a bit riskier for me but I do it now and then. Either one I know I can click out of anytime it gets to be too much.

You guys have no idea how big a deal that is for someone that can be shaking like a leaf just walking to the mailbox for fear someone will talk to them.

Really are two sides to the coin with the connected age.
Absolutely! Thanks to the internet, I'm not alone. Plus, it gives me more self-confidence for when I do interact with people (in the grocery store and such).

The internet is an even bigger miracle than vaping. After all, without the internet, vaping wouldn't have spread around the world faster than it could be regulated.

That's what FaceBook is for, keeping up with family and harvesting all the pictures they put up. (And, before that it was MySpace.)

Barbecue is allowed, even encouraged! Have fun, and get LOTS of rest!

Yes we do! Once upon a time in a land far away I was a social butterfly. After my divorce some twenty years ago, I became a caterpillar. After I retired, I became wrapped back up in my writing chrysalis. I'll come out for special events where I know intelligent people are there to have intelligent conversations, but I detest small talk. Sometimes, at the risk of being rude, I simply walk away. The internet has made it possible to do what I love most, writing, and still be connected to people I respect and care about, who respect and care about me.
