I missed my own birthday, lol. I've had my Mom in ICU since Sunday, finally was able to bring her home yesterday. You know how you get so concentrated on one thing that not much else gets your attention? Hubby & daughter had cards and gifts ready, what sweeties.
Happy Birthday! How's the Mom?

No County Services?
Well the way it works here even though our little community has a population of 7850 we are at the most southern end of Stevens county. The county seat is Colville about 70 miles away. We are at the very tip of the county 2 miles from being in Spokane county. You very rarely even see a cop here let alone animal control. The houses here have a median value of around $180,000 and so we are a large part of the tax base for Stevens county but services are far and few between. They do keep 1 cop in the area and as far as services we get pretty good snow removal because the school system is one of the best in the state and the bus barn is at the bottom of a very steep hill so they keep the roads clear for the buses. But if you called a cop here you would be really lucky to get one in 30 minutes. There is crime in the area but not much. You might here a siren once a week and most of the times it is a fire or ambulance. We do have a good fire dept system here because we vote it in same with the school system but as far as county we barely exist.

viewing as in funeral? Hope it was not someone you were especially close to. Have a fabulous trip! Oh goody, more Hux pics soon!

It was the neighbor's father who lived with them. Such a nice guy. I felt so bad for the 2 grandkids because they were so close, but he's been pretty sick for the past year. The family has strong faith though and I'm sure they'll be fine.

So sorry to hear about your Mom, but at least you were able to bring her home. And yep, one year I forgot my birthday too. No matter, just don't forget to celebrate it when the fuss is over! Here's a little bouquet to help get it started.

That she's home bodes well, I hope?

Hopefully it won't be stale :)

Regarding the chili flakes I made out of old dried New Mexico peppers: after using a really generous amount on a sandwich, I'm throwing the rest of it out. Life's too short to deal with mediocre taste. Next time I'll do something with them sooner than 2 years after purchase.

Come to think of it, though, I've been using Sauer's Crushed Red Pepper that's far older than 2 years old and it tastes fine. Guess my methodology was too short-cutted.

From inside my house I saw a deer cross my path. I went to the window with camera in hand and waited for another. I might clean my windows this decade sometime.

I volunteered for two hours this morning to work at a voter registration table at the public library in the Big City (Rocky Mount NC, 12 miles south of me).

Two of us at the table signed up one person in those two hours. Better than zero. The vast majority of people coming in to the library were already registered. One couple, though, offered the strong opinion that they had no intention whatsoever of registering or voting. Good to hear in real life what I know is not a rare feeling among the public.

It wasn't much of an endeavor, but I give credit to @Uncle Willie for me volunteering to do anything at all. He's spoken a time or two of the sense of satisfaction he gets from volunteering.

Thanks everyone! Mom is doing much better. She's never had any heart problems, out of nowhere she's in congestive heart failure. She's eating again and getting a little strength back. She is 86, so I know there will be health issues, I'm just not ready for them! It's been a tough summer with
medical stuff. Told hubby & SIL that they are not allowed to get sick!

Hang in there. Parents' declining health just isn't something we enjoy dealing with. Praying for peaceful days and minimal struggles/frustrations/problems. Enjoy all that can be enjoyed

You can rehydrate those with a little water.

My Mom has developed that also, h has been living with it for years. Had an Uncle pass a year ago from it, but he lived alone & didn't follow Dr instructions. My mothers youngest sister is in the hospital right now. Cancer, congestive heart failure, alzhiemer's, & sepsis. Dr says she will probably pass any minute.
